Yesterday, after News and Sports, I read a very bizarre story about how a 6-year-old got arrested.
Six year-old Salecia Johnson from Milledgeville, Georgia, was handcuffed and taken away from school after throwing a violent tantrum.
Salecia was tearing items off the walls, throwing books, toys, and a small shelf that hit the principal’s leg, jumped on a paper shredder and tried to break a glass frame. The weirdest part of the tantrum is she also was gnawing on a door knob.
We don’t know what set her off, but we know that after the police were called and they attempted to calm her down with no avail, they handcuffed her, put her in a patrol car, and take her back to the station.
Salecia has been suspended from school until August but will not be charged because of her age.
Many people, including Salecia’s mother Constance Ruff, are upset that the police were called to handle the situation.
What the hell is wrong with parents in this country who get mad when the authorities are called to take care of a dangerous situation. I don’t care who it is or how old they are, if there is a kid doing what Salecia was doing, then yes, I want authorities to intervene.
They are the only ones who can legally put hands on somebody when they are out of control. The principle and/or a teacher can’t place their hands on her to handle the issue without fearing a lawsuit.
I can’t imagine what is going on in Salecia’s house that would cause her to flip out like this. Salecia’s mother doesn’t want to take responsibility for her child and is upset that the police got involved but I can only hope that because of this incident, they can really look into what is going on in that home and get Salecia the proper counseling she needs.
