Last Friday during Listeners on the Loose, Doug called in to talk about why he thinks homosexuals shouldnât get married.
Earlier in the week we had a caller admit he was in the military, he was gay, and he married a lesbian in order to get extra money and benefits. During this conversation I stated that I donât understand why gay marriage isnât legal; it doesnât affect my life in any way, shape or form so why should I care?
Well, Doug said that I should care and that one of the reasons why homosexuals are not allowed to get married is because of the marriage fraud that some are already committing would increase if they could marry each other.
Thatâs a stupid reason for why gay people shouldnât get married; do you have any idea how many fraud marriages are in the military with heterosexual couples?
Doug was basically saying he didnât want gay people to have the same rights as hetero people because of the small minority who would cheat the system.
The constitution and the founding fathers were never about punishing the majority for the actions of a minority, and by saying that homosexuals shouldnât be allowed to wed because of the few who would commit fraud is going against our constitution.
This is what people like Doug donât understand. By telling someone they canât get married to the person they love, regardless of gender, is taking away their constitutional right to peruse their life, liberty and happiness.
Doug was just another fear monger who, like so many people in this country, shoot off their mouth and donât realize how they screw over other people in this country with their stupid opinions.
24-year-old Julian Alfred Young got fired from The Wallingford Boys and Girls Club, and is in legal trouble after he had a sexual relationship with a 16-year-old girl whom he met at the club.
Julian has been charged with first-degree sexual misconduct with a minor (he was not charged with rape because of the girlâs age).
I am so tired of the phrases they are using to label situations because they donât seem to fit the actions. The only reason they are charging Julian with first-degree sexual misconduct with a minor is because she is 16 and of legal age of consent in this state and they couldnât peg him for rape.
I do understand however, and have no problem with the Boys and Girls Clubâs decision to fire him. A work place has the right to say that you are not allowed to have sex with customers, but I donât understand why they were allowed to charge Julian with any kind of crime at all since we recently learned 16 is the age of consent.
Look, heâs 24-years-old; it is not outside the realm of possibility that someone of that age to hook up with someone 8 years younger than him especially if they have been hanging out in close quarters like that.
The idea of a 24-year-old having a relationship with a 16-year-old isnât weird to me; guys are less mature than girls, so sometimes a girls have to find older guys to find that balance.
We just had a 50-year-old marry a 16-year-old in this state, and thatâs OK?
This is what is wrong with this country today; we always have to demonize things by putting ridiculous labels on situations to make people look bad when they really did nothing at all.
We talked about the 58-year-old former vet from Kent who was shot by police on Wednesday morning. After the incident, his daughters told the authorities that he was depressed and was looking for a way to die.
He had separated from his wife of 20 years a few years ago and he was diagnosed as terminally ill. Along with all that, he was also suffering from diabetes, hepatitis C, and cirrhosis of the liver.
The man, who has not been identified, paid a taxi driver $500 to drive him around for the day in order for the man to acquire some specific items. The taxi driver later became concerned when he noticed that the man had a pistol grip shotgun and had bought ammunition, so he called the police. After police arrived on the scene and yelled for him to drop his weapon, the man moved his left hand towards his gun and thatâs when they fired the shots that killed him.
This is a sad story in a lot of ways. I donât understand why people think that âsuicide by copâ is a good way to go. If you want to end your own life, why would you bring innocent people into it? They donât think about the lives of the officerâs that theyâre ruining. These officers are the ones who have to live the rest of their lives with the fact that they had to take someoneâs life.
This was truly a tragedy and the fact that people are so selfish and will do this to cops, is a lame thing to do.
Granted, the guy who did this had a lot of medical and emotional issues and it makes you wonder if he was being taken care of properly. It is possible his injuries and/or medical problems were a result of him being a U.S. military veteran.
It also makes me wonder that if he was terminally ill, why didnât he receive a morphine drip and die in a hospital bed? It could be possible that he wasnât eligible to receive an assisted suicide. A listener texted in saying that many insurance companies wonât pay the family when someone dies via suicide, but that still doesnât mean that what this Kent man did was the only option he could take.
Itâs unfortunate that if someone is suffering everyday with constant depression and physical pain, that they canât take control and be able to end their own life when they know they are ready.
The government has to see what kind of an effect this would have. If this man could have committed suicide with the aid of a hospital, then the only people hurt would have been his family. Instead, he involved his family, the police officers, and their families. Now, they all have to live with the trauma of this misfortune for the rest of their lives.
What if he would have shot and killed an officer? Letâs face it; allowing people to commit assisted suicide will end up saving lives.
Last week we talked about how Kobe Bryant was being fined $100,000 after he mouthed a homophobic slur to a referee after getting a technical foul.
Many pro gay groups were outraged when cameras filmed him mouthing the words âf***ingâ and a word that rhymes with âmaggotâ at a game.
Now I was listening to another radio show the other day and they were saying that what Kobe did was inexcusable and that even if they were hit with a hammer, they would not say those same words.
Come on people, are you telling me that you never in your life have been in such a huge fit of rage that youâve uttered words that could be offensive to someone? All of us have said horrible things in a heat of anger before, right?
They also said that itâs a true test of a man to see how he reacts when he gets angry and I was annoyed by that. Kobe was in moment where he got really pissed off; I donât believe that someone could be a racist, a sexist or a homophobe based on the fact that he said two words when he was that angry.
What I want to know is what are we supposed to say when we are angry? When Iâm mad, I want to be mean because we all know it helps you vent the frustration of your pain, itâs true for everyone.
In fact, today we read a survey out of Keele University in Staffordshire, England that proves that swearing is an effective pain killer! In fact, people who swore after suffering some genuine pain felt 400% less pain than people who didnât.
What can we say to really help us out? There are so many words out there that I am not allowed to say because it will hurt someoneâs feelings, but when Iâm feeling physical or emotional pain, I just feel better when I let them out. I am just so tired of the fact that somebody gets judged because they get pissed off for 20 seconds and therefore are forever seen as that angry hateful person.
Today is a big day for me⦠the release of Kinect for X-Box 360. Our whole show will be at the Game Stop in Pacific Place from 2P-4p today (Thu 11/4).
I have been a gamer for most of my entire life, and I remember the early days when what I loved was ridiculed, let alone celebrated. Thatâs why days like today make me smile, to see how a huge company revels in the world I love so much. Hereâs the opinion of one reporter who witnessed the Times Square Kinect kick off event:
âFrom a my perspective and many other jaded New Yorkers who have seen everything and also experienced brands that try to take over Times Square over and over again, Microsoft did successfully make a spectacle last night! I didnât think it was possible outside of New Yearâs Eve to break through in Times SQ. Microsoftâs event did it. 100+ dancers dressed in âI am the controllerâ shirts, rocked the streets all night and entertained the crowds. The biggest shocker was the positive energy all around, lines of people, hoards of tourists and even the casts of crazies were all in great spirits and celebrating (again not the norm in Times Square). MTV Sway hosted the event kick off, Lady Sovereign performed (there was a buzz when she came out and the crowd thought she was Justin Bieber!!) and then Ne-Yo closed the opening ceremonies with his entourage of sexy dancers dancing with the Dance Central game with the âI am the Controllerâ dancers as back up.â
Hereâs video coverage of the Times Square Kinect release:
Even Ellen got in on the madness, this video demonstrates just how easy Kinect for X-Box 360 is:
Yesterday when I was hanging out with my wife at the grocery store, something happened that made me wonder if I should have called the authorities.
While in line waiting to cash a lottery ticket my wife received as a gift, this old woman comes up and taps my wifeâs shoulder and says, âBe lucky that youâre husband is still alive.â
It was completely random! What do you say to this?
I was having a great day up until that point; the sun was shining, I was hanging out with my wifeâ¦and then this random whack job (who looked like she only had three teeth in her mouth and had been smoking for 90 years) had to ruin it!
It didnât end there; she then says, (almost in tears), âAnd another thing, do you have children? Because I had three miscarriages.â I didnât know what the hell to do! Again, what do you say to that?
This has to be a âwoman thingâ because I donât see why else she would have come up to us in the first place. To me this felt like a violation on me.
Women feel violated when a man exposes their genitals at them but to me, having a stranger show me their pain made me feel violated. I know people are going to think Iâm crazy and a rotten guy, but it really ruined my day and made me feel bad to be alive.
What right does anyone have to come into my own space and randomly expose their own personal misery? Go get a damn therapist and leave me alone.
As a man, that is really one of the biggest violations we can feel and women need to learn to respect us just like weâve been forced to learn to respect them!
Sally told us that even though he doesnât want to be in a full on relationship with her, he still wants to continue having their sexual relationship.
First off, when are people going to stop doing things out of order? Why canât they figure out that they should get married first and then have children, because nothing good ever comes from having a child out of wedlock.
Second of all, when a man says something that stupid you really have to wonder. Men are really black and white so if you have a wishy washy man like that, there is no point in being with him because he obviously doesnât have his crap together.
Sally also wrote in her email that she does not take having a child with someone lightly so thatâs why she waited until the age of 40, but actually she did take it lightly. It was really stupid of you to make this baby with a man who isnât your husband. She probably thought she could trap him into the marriage, but seriously women, when are you going to learn that is never going to work? If they want to marry you, they will; opening your legs and popping out a baby wonât convince them.
Itâs unfair for the child to be used as a tool in your quest to get a man to love you. She should be ashamed of herself and have her baby taken away from her if this is the case. The guy probably didnât even want to be a father in the first place and let me tell you, that kid should be with another family on that reason alone.
I grew up in a household where they âmade doâ with me and I wasnât wanted by one of the parents. Now imagine that the one parent who did want you dies, and I have to live with the one who parent who made it clear that I was just a burden to them and wasnât wanted.
Please people, just stop having children before getting married, it will ruin your lives and that poor childâs life as well.
All this week I have been posting videos about the comments we have received regarding the new sound of the show, mainly the fact that we play music. I have been up late every night all this week answering all of the Facebook, Twitter, and email messages in regards to the new format change. My goal has always been to provide the best customer service to my listeners as I can and that why I felt the need to stay up past my normal bed time to respond to everyone but I have to tell you Iâve never been so frustrated in my life!Â
I would have to say that a good number of Facebookers and loyal fans are cool but there are a few that arenât. I donât mind being criticized on my pages but Iâm not going to put up with people who advertise other shows on my wall. McDonalds would not let someone put a sign in their store promoting another fast food restaurant so why should I stand for these posts on my business website?
Hereâs an idea, if you hate me and the show so much, why not instead of going on a campaign against me (which only promotes me even more), you just stop listening? What does all this rioting do for you? Does it bring you more money or get you a job because I have to tell you, if you do succeed and I do get fired, they arenât going to give you my job. If they throw me out of here, they would just bring someone else in and you would still be a miserable human being because you are never happy with anything.
I know there are loyal listeners out there, but how loyal are you if you threaten to go somewhere else? How is that supposed to make me feel like you have my back? I also tried to explain it last night and to give the new show a chance, but I still get the negative feedback.
People have to understand that if we donât get ratings, then this show will not be on. How do we get our ratings? By serving our people! How do we serve our people? By putting out surveys and our survey came back and told us that many of you do want to listen to music every now and then. The reality is you are getting our show for free, but there is a price for free and this is what has to happen.
For all you super haters you can just tune out, but for our real loyal fans, we are trying to adjust to this new formatâ¦thank you for your time and patience.
It was five years ago yesterday that Perry Manley died, and we talked about him this morning with Rick Jones from Goldberg and Jones and Greg Howe from The Other Parent. For those who donât know the story, Perry was getting screwed over by the child support system so badly that he couldnât take it anymore and went into a court room with what looked like a grenade and was killed by cops.Â
Granted how Perry went about ending his life was the wrong way to go about it (the stress that gets put on that cops who had to shoot him is unimaginable), but Perry had the motivation. It was the wrong thing, he went over the edge and snapped, but he was always doing something to get the message out and unfortunately this was a horrible final way to get his message across.
No one knows what exactly he was thinking, what his real intentions were or not, but we do know that he was extremely agitated by the things that were happening to him and the child support system. He had lost everything when he divorced his wife, and he fought the court system for years until he was pushed so far down that he snapped.
I donât condone what Perry did on June 20, 2005, but as men or as a reasonably thinking person, we have to take a look at what brought a person from Point A to Point Z.
Yesterday a man named Joe Stack committed a horrible act when he flew a plane into a seven story IRS building in Austin, Texasâ¦killing two and injuring 13 others.
Joeâs reasoning for committing this terrorist attack, and I do believe it is a form of terrorism was because he didnât pay his taxes and ended up owing $40,000 to the IRS. We all expect and accept to pay taxes, so I donât see how someone would be willing to commit suicide just because he didnât want to accept this fact!
As a man whoâs supposed to take care of his family, he failed by putting them in that much debt. They are now left with nothing, their names tainted for life, and left with the grief in knowing he killed and hurt those people.
Owing $40,000 is not as horrible as it sounds; college students leave college owing that much money or more. At the age of 53 this shouldnât be the thing that puts you over the edge! Joe Stack was an idiot, and thatâs why he is now dead.
Mel Gibsonâs new movie, âEdge of Darkness,â was number two this week in the box office and Mel has been doing the interview rounds promoting the film. Between taking Tiger Woods' side, and getting made fun of by Ricky Gervais at the Golden Globes, he has just been looking like an idiot!
Melâs main problem seems to come out when he is asked about the things he did in his past.
I understand it happened four years ago, but Melâ¦you were drunk and said some anti-semitic remarks. This is the most important thing he has done lately; not the crazy Christian stuff that he loves talking about and shoving it down our throats. Now with the new film out, Mel is in the public eye again so he has to be ready for people to want to know whatâs going on in his life.
Recently Mel was on a  T.V. station in Chicago, and a reporter brought up the topic about his drinking problem and what his fans might be thinking about what happened. Once the interview was over, Mel thought the camera was off and he said âA**holeâ to the reporter. What a fine representation of Christianity by the way.
Of course Mel tried to back track & say that the remark was meant for his publicist who was making faces at him off camera. Thatâs a load of bull because when the lights are on you, you can very rarely see anyone in front of you.
Why not be a man and talk about it? Admit that it was a hard part in your life, that you said a lot of stupid things because you were a crazy drunk, and that you let a lot of friends, family, and fans down. People might actually want to see your movies if you knew how to speak about these things.
Even though it was four years ago, itâs the last big thing heâs done. Unfortunately people are judged on their lowest point, but instead of owning up to it and using it to motivate others, he just keeps making it worse.
Todayâs blog is not a rant but a review of a restaurant that has now become my new geek hangout; itâs Flying Saucer Pizza in Redmond. I have wanted to go here for months, but something has always come up & I have yet to make it there until this past weekend, and it blew my mind.
These guys have been a part of the KISW Perks in the past, and one time they delivered Pizza to the station. So Iâve had the pizza before, and it was great, but itâs really about the experience. This place is like a geek paradiseâ¦they have great sci-fi movies playing on the big screen, amazing 1950âs sci-fi memorabilia up on the walls, and they have trivia contests! My wife and I entered the trivia contest, we called ourselves âTeam Tardisâ (I have to show love for Doctor Who, especially since Billie Piper will be on the show on Wednesday at 6:20 am), and we came in third place. Of all of the questions to miss, I missed a Star Trek question. Yes, I can name the plot & episode number of pretty much every Star Trek episode, and quote lines from those episodes, but somehow I spaced on the question. Quick aside, if you are doing a trivia contestâ¦put your damn cell phone away, with the ability of going online on your phone, it would be so easy to cheat.
The menu doesnât just have pizza, but they have calzones, pastas, and salads. Itâs a fantastic place with amazing food and I highly recommend it! The Pizzas have great names too: the Big Bang, Asteroid Belt, and Ming the Merciless are just a few of the names of Pizzas thereâ¦Check them out at: www.flyingsaucerpizza.com
We got a call from a listener named Cliff that brought up a very good point about all of the support and aid we are now sending to Haiti. Iâve been biting my tongue about the whole situation in Haiti because I knew it was going to be blown up all over the place, and I didnât want to be a part of that.
Cliff is one of the thousands who have lost their jobs due to this sinking mess known as the economy. When he lost his job as an electrician about a year agoâ¦he also lost his house, his boat, and all of his nice things that he owned.
Why should we as Americans care so much about a problem that doesnât concern us? We are donating so much time, money, and energy into this when we should be fixing all the problems going on in our country first. Many people donât even have healthcare. Unemployment should be at 0% in this country!
The United States needs to get its act together before we try playing superhero in a different country.
Today we talked about a billboard they posted in England that read:
âWorking women make bad moms.â
Now that doesnât imply that career moms are necessarily bad moms, but I do think if it was phrased differently like, âStay at home mothers are better moms then working mothers,â it would make more sense.
Now I grew up in a world where the job of the mother was to care for her children. My mother, and many others at that time, would stay at home to clean the house, make the meals, and watch after the kids. If you speak to adults whose moms had careers they will tell you that they had it rougher than the other people whose moms were there when they got home from school.
Double R grew up with a working mom, and he thinks if she was given the choice between staying at home or getting a job, she still would have still chosen work because they would have killed each other otherwise. A woman who chooses to have a career, and doesnât have a man who is willing to stay home, shouldnât even be a parent! Women of todayâs society say, âI want to be a mother but I really donât want to be a mother. I want to get a job but I want to have a child because biologically I feel like I should. I want the feeling of having this little creature worshiping me because it has to.â
My wife is a stay at home mom and I know for a fact it hasnât been easy on her, especially with a husband like me. Iâm not sure how our lives would have been like if she would have been working while the kids were young, but I know it wouldnât have been as good. Kathy tells me she canât believe all the good things we do for our kids because when she was young her father wasnât in the picture, and her mother had to work and she wasnât as available to her like my mother was to me.
Sometimes itâs unavoidable but it still doesnât change the fact that they are not as good as mothers who stay at home.
The bottom line is that women have to understand if they choose to have both a career and children they will probably not be as good of a mother compared to the women who stay at home. If you donât accept this fact and you still want your job, donât bother having children.
