You probably remember the American Christian radio broadcaster Harold Camping; he was the guy who predicted that the rapture was on May 21, 2011 and raised over $100 million to tell the world about his predictions.
When nothing happened, Camping said he believed that a "spiritual" judgment had occurred on that date, and that the physical Rapture would occur on October 21, 2011. As you can see, that didn’t happen either.
Harold Camping did record a statement earlier this week, “Why didn’t Christ return on October 21? It seems embarrassing for Family Radio. But God was in charge of everything.”
He also said in his statement, “One thing we know for certain, that God is merciful. Merciful beyond anything that we would ever expect. And so we can pray constantly and should be praying constantly. Oh Lord, we look to thee for thy mercy and we’re so thankful that we know that thou art so merciful.”
God is not merciful. I hate it when people try to assign human attributes to the Supreme Being.
Is He merciful when a little child gets molested by a horrible family member? No, He is not, but when you try to ask that to a religious person, you almost always get the same answer, “God works in mysterious ways.”
Can we please just stop assigning human attributes to the Supreme Being; we don’t really know for certain what God is or what He’s doing. There are many things we don’t understand and yet there is always someone trying to prove that they know what’s going on.
It’s just sucks for those good Christians out there because they have guys like Harold Camping and the idiots from the Westboro Baptist Church who ruin the Christian image.
Thankfully, it has been announced that Harold Camping has retired from his position as the lead of Family Radio Stations and his ministry; which is the most merciful thing he could do because we don’t have to listen to him speak anymore!
