Arena Football 7/24/15

I have titled this blog Arena Football because tomorrow everyone on The Men's Room and our boy Veggie Dog are headed to Spokane to watch the Shock play. I have been to a lot of sporting events but never arena football. I am excited to watch the game and have some beers but can't lie I am really pumped to meet the mascot Shox the Fox. Shox because famous, well I should say even more famous in just the last month as he had a off moment and got involved in a play in the end zone. Now some have been quick to criticize Shox, but you have to remember he can't see so well in there and mistakes happen. I believe that Shox is a fine maybe even world class mascot and a smart mascot knows to turn this negative into a positive. While it was embarrassing at the time I trust that Shox has turn this into a learning opportunity. Shox will not be making this mistake again and he will better for having this have happened. As for the football on the field I am fired up to see the Shock beat up on Portland. See no matter what the sport is I am always excited to see a Portland team lose.

Summer Sports 7/22/15

So this time of year the sports season kind of lags a bit in the fact it is the dog days of summer for baseball as well as for the MLS season. Golf is in full swing but even with golf the majors that everyone really cares about the most have already happened. Yes I understand the PGA championship is a major but it does not hold the same prestige as the Masters, US Open and British Open. Part of the summer slow is also is just gets warm out and people themselves are not doing as much. People take vacations and just chill out when it gets hot out. This time of year is also a time for fans to dig in and stick it out. Baseball fans know that this time of year is long on the players but long on the fans as well so you have to stay in it fans. Soccer fans and especially Sounders fans have been going through a terrible time of late and just can't seem to find a win anywhere. The summertime swing in both these sports can be a test of will's for both players and fans alike but I trust in the fans and the teams. I am sticking by my theory that the Mainers will make the postseason and the Sounders will get back on track when players return and this funk is out of the boys. So have a cold drink and remember that these long summer days sometimes are very telling to the rest of the season. Support your M's and support your Sounders FC

Redfest 7/1/15

Tomorrow is Redfest and I am excited to say the least. I have just got done with a long period of not drinking and I am looking forward to drinking beers with you all. I know this year the weather will be awesome and sunny. Hell it might even be a little too warm for some of us Seattle people. I enjoy outdoor drinking at multiple things, credit to Miles for the "outdoor drinking". My brother and I are seasoned tailgaters so outdoor drinking is a old passion. The thing about drinking outdoors in a parking lot is the different factor, you don't usually get to drink like that in a spot like that and listen to live bands. I love college football but in the end I might just like tailgating college football even more then some of the games I have been to myself. I also enjoy drinking beers on a golf cores which is again just a different environment to do some quality drinking outdoors. Sunshine and beers are a great mix but can also be a trouble mix so I would warn you to be safe out there tomorrow at Redfest and make sure you get some water in you as well as those tasty beers. There is a Sounders match tomorrow and I hope at least a few people are using Redfest as their pregame warm up for the match. I will be skipping the match tomorrow myself but hope to some Sounders fans in attendance. Sun, fun and you and me, lets do this

Summer Check in 7/16/15

So it is the middle of July and how is your new years resolution going? I ask this because as it is The Year Of The Hustle as we have deemed it on Thee Podcast and I know I have gotten to some points where I have to remind myself the hustle is year long. I have accomplished many things already this year but I can't get comfortable and lazy because I made a promise to be on point all year. People always have different goals for the year and I hope you are staying on top of them. If you have fallen off a bit then maybe this mid summer check in is the time to get back on the path. Also remember that some goals are personal and don't have to be huge. It can be very small simple steps to get you to the next goal. Some people are always going to give you a hard time and it is tough but in time you will learn to brush it off because they are just upset they are not reaching some goal they set. If someone gives you crap about a food or drink choice just remember that this is your journey and not theirs. Change is constant and how you react to it shows what kid of person you are but others sometime won't like your change and that's ok. The real people you want in your life are like me, they are proud of you for making these positive changes and can't wait to see the awesome person you are becoming. Year Of The Hustle is real ya'll stay positive and enjoy it

Spicy Food 7/9/15

I was ordering a burrito bowl just today, they are on special on Thursday's with free guacamole and noticed that most ladies seem to prefer spicy salsa as where I like mine mild. Most of the girls I have dated over the years have all been fans of spicy where I have not. In my younger days I would eat spicy food and enjoy but as I got older the next day became a problem for me. I think in the end that is why I don't like real spicy stuff anymore. I meet a lot of people that men and women that love spicy food and always say you have to try this but I about to try that. I will try say a spicy chicken wing once in a while but not really my thing. I do still find it funny though that most women seem to like the spicy stuff, the lady in front of me got spicy salsa and added jalapeños. I thought this chick is crazy but then I talked with her and she seemed so normal and nice despite her taste for spicy food. I suspect if you are reading this and are a lady you probably enjoy spicy food and Arby's. I have know a lot of girls who say "I don't eat fast food but Arby's is different". So ladies you continue to perplex me with you love of spicy food and Arby's

World Cup 2/7/15

This weekend just a day after the 4th of July which is the nations birthday our women's national team captured the world cup. The world cup is the biggest tournament in soccer and is a huge win for the Untied States. I am a soccer fan so it should be no surprise that I watched the game but the big surprise was how many other Americans watched the game. It was the highest rated soccer match in the history of the USA. The other cool thing was it was a rematch with Japan who had beat the USA in the previous world cup four years ago in a shoot-out. It was the match up most soccer fans were looking for and the USA and Japan have been the class of the women's game for years. I think a huge part of the popularity in the women's game is due to the fact that so many girls play soccer growing up. I also think it is awesome for girls to be able to see people who look like them winning big sporting events. I believe that people like to see someone like themselves taking part in sporting events and it brings it closer. Seeing that being woman who can win at high levels is great and inspiring to those girls, I think. My niece loves soccer and was so pumped for the USA to win. I watch a lot of woman's soccer with my friendship with the Seattle Reign but the biggest thing I love is that it has brought my common ground to chat with my niece about. See the national team winning the world cup is not just a victory for them but also a victory for my niece and I. Thanks ladies

4th of July 7/2/15

This weekend is July 4th which is a great holiday and a celebrations of the USA declaring independence from Britain. I like July 4th as well because of the fact it is a great holiday to use the grill. Now you might notice I said grilling instead of BBQ because in my mind if you are BBQing you are cooking something all day not just using a grill. The easy way to remember is BBQ is low and slow and the grill is hot and fast. The 4th of July is also a great time to get together with other friends and family members. Next to Christmas time I think the 4th of July is my favorite holiday. I have spent many different July holidays different ways but one I remember very fondly was spent in a row house in Baltimore. My buddy DB and I were living in this house and we had decided to get some blue crabs for the 4th, it was so hot I remember the sweat dripping down our faces as we ate outside but it was still fun. We had different people come though different parts of the day and we had a tiny little baby pool to cool off in. It was one of my favorite times and I am not someone who longs for the past but that was a fun time. Have a great holiday everyone.

Doland Trump 6/25/15

I am not even sure where to start on this one but I will start with I do not like this guy. The person I am talking about is Donald Trump who is now running for president. Donald Trump is famous for many things and some of them are good and some are bad. First I freely admit that his book the art of the deal is a good read for people trying to understand dealing with business deals  and not a bad read. I will also admit that his TV show The Apprentice is entertaining and has a fun catchphrase with "Your Fired". Now I will tell you some of the bad, Trump enterprises (his companies) have filed for bankruptcy twice. I bring this up because he insist on telling you how rich he is and how much money he has made over the years. He is smart in the way that he never involves his own money of name so that he can still make tons of money while the government, you and I  forgive his companies debts and he makes millions. This brings me to another point which is he really smart for this or is he just a bad person who takes none of the risk and just the rewards. I realize that trump won't win the nomination or become president but to me he is just evil. When he announced he was running he said that Mexico sends us rapist and killer and only some of them are Ok people. He is completely wrong about that and it is the other way around, only a small amount are criminals. That would like thinking all Italians are in the mob, which is not true. I don't like the guy and that is obvious but what scares me is the lies he puts out there and that some do believe him

Larry Wilmore 6/24/15

So this year there has been some changes on the late night talk show circuit. One of the first shows that changed host was that Stephen Colbert left his post and the show turned in The Nightly Show with Larry Wilmore. I try to make sure I watch this show at least a few days a week. I think Larry Wilmore does a good job and the show is very funny with eh different people he has on. The other thing I really like is that he has different guest on that I don't think would normally be on the late night talk shows. He has some rappers on along actors and political figures. Larry is black and I think that helps bring in different people and makes others more comfortable with seeing black faces on the panels. I think that having on different people of all back rounds and races is very interesting and give another view. I watch some channels and show's like Larry's who talk about other races but the only one's talking are white faces which does not make a ton of sense. I think having the rappers and younger people on helps give a fresh view as well as sometimes as we get older it is hard to accept change. I should also mention that Larry does a very good job of tackling serious issues while keeping the show funny. That is what impresses me the most truth be told, I would be way to fired up to keep the comedy rolling. I like the show and suggest you check it out

Guns and Race 6/18/15

So sadly I have tweeted these thoughts before and again we are in a terrible tragedy dealing with gun violence. Last night in South Carolina a white man walked into a historical black chuck and sat with people for a hour and then opened fire and killed nine people. Now you may have noticed that I specifically that I added the race of the shooter and victims because this was a terroristic hate crime that was perpetrated. Save me the same old talk that after a gun massacre is not the time to talk about gun reform in this country. I also think it is time to seriously think about what people say about race. You can still like your country and criticize it at the same time. When local news stations lead with a quote dangerous situation because there is a Black Lives Matter protest, that is racist. There is nothing dangerous going on there except the fear of black people that some people have. South Carolina is still a state where the confederate flag fly's on the grounds of the state capital, stop that. First off that is not even the flag of the confederacy it is a battle flag used during the civil war. That flag they fly in the south and unfortunately in other parts of the country represents slavery and racism not pride or a good history. The president even said it today, gun violence like this does not happen on a regular biases like it does in our country. It is not a question of when, the time to actually have conversations about guns and race is now
