This week is Thanksgiving and you know I am fired up. Last week I blogged about how I was upset that Christmas seem to be taking over the Thanksgiving holiday and that sucks because it is a great holiday. Now I like to eat so that is a huge factor in the me liking Thanksgiving so much but also it is just a low pressure holiday compared with Christmas. For instance if someone doesn't have a certain food you like then it sucks but it is not a huge deal but if you show up without a gift then it is a big deal. Christmas also just has more pressure because everyone tells you it should. When watching TV and shows you would think if you don't get the perfect gift then you are not a good person which I think is just BS. Hell some of the best gift givers I know are a pain in the butt in real life but hey they got you that awesome gift so you better tell them they are great. Now kids are a different story since remember stuff like what they got on Christmas and for kids Christmas is no doubt the top dog but as a adult give me some good food and football with no real pressure and I am a happy camper. I always enjoyed playing football with my cousins and such on Thanksgiving as well. We would always get together and play a touch football game. If you read this and say why touch? it's because touch is better on the body then tackle and we had a group's of different ages. Thanksgiving is a great time to relax and have fun, family can grind on you a bit but rember in the end just take a breathe and enjoy some pie. Have a great holiday everyone
So today on the show we are talking about how a mother wrote a letter to a news paper to say that she was offended by Cam Newton dancing in the end zone after he scored a touchdown against the Titans. Now first off she is a Titan fan so I am sure that had something to do with it but I digress. So she says in her letter that Cam showed poor sportsmanship by dancing and while it is not my preferred way to celebrate a TD Cam is solid player and from what I can tell a solid dude who enjoys playing the game. Sure years ago he got into some trouble for cheating on a test when he was Florida but not really that big of deal to find a teenager cheating on a test. Anyhow the point I am trying to make here is that I like to see people enjoying what they are doing professionally and Cam is one of those guys. Now I do get if he is not on your team you probably hate that he dances but like he say's it is very simple, if you want him to not dance in the end zone then don't let him in the end zone. We are also talking about a grown ass man who get's paid a lot of money to play a game, who cares if he does a little dancing
I understand that people get excited for Christmas and the holiday season as a whole but what happened to Thanksgiving? I feel like someone needs to stand up to Christmas and say hey fella lets have Thanksgiving first. Now I don't specifically blame Christmas as it is a holiday but people around the holiday have gone to far. Now look you are hard pressed to find a guy who likes Christmas more than I but let Thanksgiving have it time. Thanksgiving is a great day with great food and a nit more relaxing than Christmas. I also like the fact that on Thanksgiving you are supposed to watch football and chill. Christmas is my favorite holiday and is great but we need, we must respect Thanksgiving and all it's greatness. I mean come on people we are talking about a cooked bird, stuffing, sweet potatoes and much much more. Hell you are even expected to eat way too much and just relax into a couch. The whole point is that as much fun as Christmas is we have to chill a bit on the whole thing. The Friday after Thanksgiving go all out for Christmas but for god's sake give Thanksgiving it's due folks.
So after my last blog about how the Sounders FC were hurting and maybe not making the playoff's they have had a decent run of form. Now yes I am fired up about winning a playoff game and sending LA home but I am still a bit worried about the team. While winning generally cures all this was not a great season and the club still has some issues. Now with that said I also understand that any team can get hot and have a great run though the playoff's. I will say thought I am excited as hell and hope this playoff run stay's hot. My head tells me that I should be a bit worried but the fan in me and my heart say the hell with it these boy's are hot. I guess sometimes that is the life of a sports fan, you know who the good teams are and where your team stands but you can still be unrealistic with goals. That is also part of what makes being a fan awesome because you can convince yourself of just about anything. The Sounders have a distinct shot to make this run, my real goofy fan thoughts come when I think Maryland football is going to be good or they could beat Ohio St. So I say stay hot Sounders and let's ride this to the MLS Cup
So this weekend the Seattle Sounders who have had a rough season will try to get into the MLS playoffs. I am in weird spot because as a fan you always want your club to get into the post season but does just sneaking in the playoffs to get knocked out early help? I ask this because some teams just sneak in the playoffs on a hot streak and head into the tournament hot. The Sounders on the other hand are not exactly what I would call hot right now and seems like the playoffs might just be a drawn out painful end to this season. Speaking of painful stuff this season has been rough and I for one am starting to question what the deal is. I am not sure but it seems to me that whatever is wrong with the Sounders starts from the top down. I am not speaking about Sigi either, I am starting to think something is up with our club from the very top. I am talking about front office stuff, I know that in a any sport the best teams have solid front offices that set a tone for how the club goes. It is not as easy as just pointing out additions to the team and stuff like that but some type of mindset. It is one thing to not have talent and injuries but sometimes to me the club just seems uninspired and plays poor. Hell at points it seems like some of best players just give up or don't put in enough effort. I am not sure what the future holds for this club but one thing is for sure if the club wants to continue and be a world wide brand they need to win a MLS cup. I already have my season ticket for next year paid for so you know I am in let's just hope the boys can find some magic this weekend.
So as the fall is in full swing I am reminded every weekend how much I love college football. Now my favorite team Maryland is not good and has fired the coach halfway through the season. Even with the sadness of a what is becoming a normal bad season in College Park I am still pumped about the college football season. First off I am impressed with how quickly it looks like Michigan is back to being a national power but then again Jim Harbaugh is a great coach. I also like the fact in college you never really know who will when. Last weekend the Cougs upset Oregon in a great game. I also always love the fun times at college games. From the smell of the grill on a crisp fall day to the late night upsets after your game watching in the parking lot. I should also mention that college games on played on Saturdays and I have for years thought this is another reason college football is the best. You get a day to recover after the fun on Saturday. Anyhow as you can tell I am tailgating this weekend and can't wait
As the weather turns a little bit chilly and fall is amongst us. As the weather turns and you get ready for the winter I want to remind you to get ready. Now honestly it is not that chilly yet soon it will be. I say you should be ready but in the end I am really just telling myself but I will write it in this blog for everyone. My main thing is that I want to make sure my fitness is at a high level, high level for me that is because the food and doing nothing around the corner. See if I start getting lazy now by the time Thanksgiving and Christmas come around I will huge. See I just kind of plan on putting on a couple holiday pounds so I figure it is best to head into the holiday in fighting shape or at least staying in the gym. Also the summer is a great time for fun and exciting adventures but I feel the fall sound be a time to kind of reel it in a bit. Now don't get me wrong I still plan on some fun Halloween parties and stuff like that but not all the random beers and shows that come along with the summer. Also it is a good time to sit around after that workout and watch some sports. Oh yeah don't forget to get that crockpot fired up as well, I mean it's fall right?
A couple of weeks ago I went to the most extreme festival in the world which is Burning Man. Now I went to Burning Man for myself and to test some things about myself which I did. Number one was could I live in a dessert for a week, I did and it is not easy. To say that the conditions are harsh is a understatement, we are talking about wind storms and heat during the day. Wind and cold at night but often midnight seemed to be the calmest time to be out and about in the dessert. Some people I have talked to have asked me what I was looking for in the dessert and I am not sure I was looking for anything to be honest. I have already had many beautiful experiences in my life and done some wild stuff so I was not looking for anything and don't think that it changed me as some people say Burning Man changed them forever. The main thing I think I learned about myself is that I can do it, I can build in the heat of the sun and get it done. I also learned that in the end I am still just me. There is all kinds of crazy and awesome things to see at Burning Man, no you won't be able to see it all by the way. Some days though I was still just me and wanted to hang close to camp and just BS with my neighbors and drink some beers. For me it was some kind of crazy calling or test that I felt like I wanted to do and prove things to me more than anyone. In the end maybe that is what I learned is that I spent some much of my life proven things to others that I forgot in the end I just needed to prove some things to myself. Burning Man is not for everyone but if you have ever thought about it then go. It is a magical place that words can't describe. Welcome Home
Today I write this blog with a bit of a heavy heart. For some reason it seems like family deaths and sad news was all around the last couple of days. A girl I grew up with and knew her family as she and her family were friends with my family as well Mother passed away just last week. I hear today of sad news of another friend of mine, who's Father just passed on Sunday. On The Megacast today Steve and I talked with our buddy Levi Lyon from Lyon Pride Music (who also has awesome party busses) and Levi's brother was one of the firefighters injured in the wild fires last week over in eastern Washington. Sadly though his brother who was badly injured was the only survivor out of four men who were caught on a hill when the wind changed. His brother who was about to become a Police officer just went to fight the fires as a volunteer just to help out and ends up getting seriously injured. Today also saw yet more senseless gun violence as a ex co-worker was mad about some things gunned down a TV reporter on the air and the camera man. Just a overall sad morning of news and serious subjects today. I feel for all these situations and while all different they all remind us that life is precious and can be gone at any time. Sometimes on days like today I would just remind you to take a look at what is important in your life. Life is a lot of things and sometimes I get so wrapped up in my own stuff that I forget to look at the big picture. As much as I am writing and telling others to look at what is important I am most definitely reminding myself as well
Yesterday was the 2015 version of Pain in the grass and man was it fun. First off it sold out and the crowd that was there was ready to party and have fun even on a Sunday. We had two stages and the second century stage was live man. It was fun going over there and seeing some up and coming bands that close. It was also cool that you could be just strolling by with a beer and catch a set of live music. The weather was warmer and the sun was out as well. I will try to put into words but it is hard the feeling I had yesterday. First off signing autographs and taking pictures with people never get's old to me. I am always happy to do and frankly it is a awesome feeling when someone ask you for a autograph or picture. We have worked on KISW for ten years and it never stops amazing me how awesome the fans of the Rock are. Standing on stage in front of a sold out white river and hearing all the love from the crowd was just awesome. Awesome on a level that is hard to explain but it just feels great. The reason it feels so good is because of you guys. Yes you are the ones that pay for the tickets and show up to all the events. You guys are the reason those events are so much fun. I know you will hear it a lot on the station but I just want you guys to know how much it means to all of us and personally I just want to say thank you.
