Hey there Metal bloggers, it's Kevin here. I have a bit of a confession - I'm addicted to ridiculous movies. I call them movies because all in all, the kind of things I watch could barely be considered "films." There's nothing better than a great movie, but in a close second is a terrible movie worthy of a thousand laughs. With Halloween coming up, I decided to make a wish list of ridiculous horror movies I have to see before October 31st.
Monkey Shines (1988)
It seems that this is a George Romero film that has been overlooked over time. As the writer of all the best zombie movies ever, I pretty much go with whatever he puts his name on. That being said, I've always heard this movie is totally ridiculous to the point of being funny. Now that's MY kind of movie.
Troll 2 (1990)
It seems as though this failed sequel has made a bit of a resurgence as of late, due to the attention it's getting from the always influential bloggerati. Being recently named as the "Best Worst Film" has paid off well for Troll 2, as it has been released on, of all things, the Blu Ray format. Yes, Troll 2 on Blu Ray. Wow. Either way, just watch this trailer and tell me you aren't titilated. Get into it!
Here's a movie I've picked up at the video store probably somewhere around 50 times, yet I've never once grabbed it as the final choice. Not only does this classic gangster/horror flick star the one and only Snoop Dizzle Fo Rizzle, but it also features one of the mot righteous badasses of our time: Ms. Pam Grier!
Here's what IMDB has to say about the premise...
The time is 1979. Jimmy Bones is respected and loved as the neighborhood protector. When he is betrayed and brutally murdered by a corrupt cop, Bones' elegant brownstone becomes his tomb, Twenty-two years later, the neighborhood has become a ghetto, and his home has turned into a Gothic ruin. Four teens renovate it as an after hours nightclub, unknowingly releasing Jimmy's tortured spirit. Its thrills and chills when blood spills when Jimmy's ghost sets about its frightful revenge, his killers unaware of the gruesome fate that awaits them. With each new victim, the terror mounts, and Bones' vengeance spins out of control, threatening everyone in his path, including his former lover, Pearl.
Convinced yet? If not, I suggest you take a little look-sy over here, my friend.
So join me this month in celebrating both the best AND the worst in horror movie cinema. I might even re-watch Phantoms!
