Iron Mike's Blog 1/2/10 - My Top 10 CD's & Concerts of 2010!

REPLY TO THIS POST AND LET ME KNOW WHAT YOUR TOP 10's WERE FOR 2010!

Okay I really hate Top 10 lists. Always way too hard for me to choose, especially with music cd's cause I get/buy/listen to tons a year. To help myself I made sure these CD's were released in 2010. Even though Alice in Chains "Black Gives Way to Blue", Halestorm debut, Paradise Lost " Faith Divides Us – Death Unites Us", & Behemoth's "Evangelion" I spun a lot in 2010, they were released in 9/2010 but had to give them some props! Then ya have other CD's like WindowPane's "Daybreak" ( http://www.myspace.com/windowpane), Raven's "Walk Through Fire" (http://www.myspace.com/ravenlunatics) that released in 2010 that killed me. So here's my final Top 10 cd's of 2010...drum roll please...

#1
Post Modern Heroes - Self Titled - Unsigned!
http://www.myspace.com/postmodernheroes
http://www.facebook.com/PostModernHeroes
Nobody can touch these guys with a 10-foot pole! Greatest/freshest/coolest kick ass rock band on this planet! Your jaw will drop when you hear Travis "Titanium Tonsils" Bracht sing like no other guy on this planet. Are they seriously from Seattle or some other planet? Seeing them live is an out-of-body experience! THE BEST the WORLD will know in 2011!!! One of the best beginning to end rock records EVER out of Seattle! TURN THIS UP and don't blame me when your body goes into a 40 minute conniption fit and you're off to the chiropractor!

#2
Karnivool - Sound Awake
http://www.myspace.com/Karnivool
Imagine Tool meets Porcupine Tree in the greatest of ways! Australia has done it again!

#3
The Crying Spell - Through Hell to Heaven - Unsigned!
http://www.myspace.com/thecryingspell
My vote for best overall multi-facetted rock CD of 2010! Imagine U2, The Killers, Depeche Mode, The Smiths & Muse mixed-up in a classic mix of British-style flavored guitar rock for the ages. Again another new Seattle band ready to take on the world!

#4
Devo - Something For Everybody
http://www.myspace.com/devo
Not only the greatest sounding CD of 2010 but Devo's best since the 70s! WOW this will crush your stereo!

#5
New Medicine - Race You To The Bottom
http://www.myspace.com/newmedicine
The best Frat party CD in the new millennium! Brilliant tunes, great band! Angst punk pop rock GODS!

#6
Witchburn - This is how we Slay our Demons - Unsigned!
http://www.myspace.com/witchburn
The greatest union of men and women on any hard rock CD ever! A juggernaut of Sabbath-like pillaging to kick your ass from here to Timbuktu! Over 70min of the amazing Jamie Nova on vocals...makes me glad I'm alive! Buy this CD!! Produced by Jack Endino, enough said!

#7
Dirty Heads - Any Port In A Storm (Special Edition 2010)
http://www.myspace.com/thedirtyheads
Imagine taking 311, Sublime, Sugar Ray, Lenny Kravitz and mix it all with a Beastie Boys vibe and no wonder they made Billboard history! This CD just makes ya feel  good, nasty and wanting the sun! The first independent label artists to have a #1 song on alternative radio for 11 weeks in a row but the laid back group out of Orange  County is also the first independent label artists to go #1 on Billboard’s all format rock songs chart in history! Wonder who at Warner Bros. decided to not release this CD and drop it instead? No wonder the industry is all screwed up!  You can’t stop good music!

#8
Mushroomhead - Beautiful Stories for Ugly Children
http://www.myspace.com/Mushroomhead
The different guitar sounds on this CD KILL me!!! Absolutely razor cutting, heavy & clean, beautiful throughout! Diversely heavy, yet melodic with their 2 polar opposite sounding vocalists and musical styles especially on "I'll Be Here". Don't let the masks scare ya, they've been doing it longer than Slipknot with more diverse and musically memorable tunes. Love Mushroomhead! #1 band on planet I want to shoot live with their crazy show!

#9
Accept - Blood of the Nations
http://www.myspace.com/accepttheband
The return without UDO is single handedly the best Accept CD since "Metal Heart", with ex-TT Quick singer Mark Tornillo. He’s a perfect fit to cover UDO's vocal grit of the past. The Twin-V guitar attack and huge bass lines are back! The first three songs had me on the floor crying with happiness, it’s that Accept classic good!

#10
Hail The Villain - Population: Declining
http://www.myspace.com/hailthevillain
Thank you Canada! Is the opening Helmet-like riffage of "Evil Has a Name" the riff of the year? I think I blew a speaker and a hip at the same time ha!! Love CD's that make ya feel like ya plugged yourself in the electrical socket!!

Shhhhhh I snuck an eleventh pick! Too good not to be listed even though released at the end of 2009 in the USA!
Black River - "Black 'N' Roll
http://www.myspace.com/blackriverpl
Hard rock/metal from Poland that mix a Sabbath/Motley Crue mix for the masses! The funny thing is this band consist of members of the popular Death Metal bands Behemoth, Dimmu Borgir and Vader! "Jumping Queenny Flash" you HAVE to hear! Brilliant mix of the Sex Pistols "God Saves The Queen" and The Rolling Stones "Jumping Jack Flash" Black River style!!

Great list Mike! You're the one who turned me on to Porcupine Tree and now I can't imagine my life without their music. Looking forward to checking out more of your suggested picks. The local musical talent in 2010 has been phenomenal - glad you have some on your list.
