Each year in Hollywood some of rock/metal's biggest names get together in respect and honor the passing of Pantera guitarist Darell "Dimebag" Abbott in an event called Dimebash! Tonight is gonna be an amazing night with members of bands like Alice in Chains, King's X, Black Sabbath, Disturbed, Anthrax, Duff McKagan, Ratt, In This Moment and MANY more all playing together and telling their stories of Dimebag! Thanks to our guitar buddy (and also show participant) Paul Phillips from Puddle of Mudd & Operator fame for sending us some exclusive cell phone shots to share with you all from last nights rehearsals! How big is this news? Big enough we all wish we were there tonight!! Unreal! Can't wait for the videos!!!!
By Dave Mustaine Facebook 8:30pm - Breaking news!! After almost three decades, Dave Mustaine will be playing with Metallica again on stage tonight in San Francisco for Metallica's fourth and final intimate sold out show at the Fillmore as part of the week-long celebration of its 30th anniversary as a band. Dave will be playing five songs with Metallica; "Hit The Lights", "Metal Militia", "Phantom Lord", "Jump In the Fire", and "Seek And Destroy".
If that wasn't enough last nights Metallica show featured the RETURN of King Diamond to the stage with Mercyful Fate. This time last year King underwent heart triple bypass surgery and didn't know when he would return to music. I would've done anything to be there last night! Hail the King and Dave Mustaine! Can't wait to see videos of Dave with the Metallica on the songs that changed Heavy Metal forever!
Update: Here's video from the Metallica/Mustaine onstage last night!!!!
Lets face it, Dec 7th & 8th each year will be dates that live in infamy to the world. The 7th being the surprise attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941 and the 8th with the surprise killings of The Beatles' John Lennon (12/8/80) and Pantera's "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott (12/8/04). A little known musical fact: Among the 1,177 USS Arizona crewmen killed, Pearl Harbor attack, were all 21 members of the USS Arizona’s band. Known as U.S. Navy Band Unit (NBU) 22, most of its members were up on deck preparing to play music for the daily flag raising ceremony when the attack began. At no other time in American history has an entire military band died in action.
Similar surprise attacks happened to one of the greatest and influential rock music legends & one of the most influential metal guitarists that ever lived. John Lennon outside his apartment building and "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott onstage while performing. Both men shot with 4 bullets each. Sad days for millions around the world.
