As the Summer Olympics get under way in London, a new poll lists Van Halen's "Jump" as the most popular song at sporting events. The British Performing Rights Society conducted a fan poll that put the 1984 Van Halen hit at No. 1, edging out the Rolling Stones' "Start Me Up" at No. 2 and Detroit native Jackie Wilson's "(Your Love Keeps Lifting Me) Higher and Higher" at No. 3. Other classic rockers landing on the poll included the Beatles, Queen (thrice), Journey and Survivor. The full PRS For Music poll Top 20 includes: 1. "Jump," Van Halen; 2. IRON MAIDEN: Bruce's Ice Flight
Iron Maiden singer Bruce Dickinson spent the band's day off in Canada on Saturday shooting an episode of the History Channel's Ice Pilots. Dickinson co-piloted a World War Two-era DC-3 plane from Edmonton to Hay River in the Northwest Territories. He tells the Edmonton Journal, “It’s a classic airplane. I did a little bit of flying of these in the States. It’s like a vintage car -- there’s pretty much nothing automatic on it, apart from the engines, which keep going, and that’s it. It’s a great airplane. It’s historic and an experience, which is rare these days.”

BLACK SABBATH: Geezer Hanging With Forrest
It's not unusual to see actor Tom Hanks photographed next to a musician -- but with Black Sabbath bassist Geezer Butler? Hanks is friends with Paul McCartney, and he's been a presenter at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony as well as its 25th anniversary concert. But on Wednesday in Portland, Oregon, Hanks and Butler were the guests of honor at a soccer match between Aston Villa from England and the Portland Timbers. Hanks said, "I fell in love with Aston Villa because I thought the name sounded like an island off Sardinia." Butler is a longtime fan and can be seen at many games with Sabbath guitarist Tony Iommi. GENE SIMMONS: Apparently Jesus Is a Fan
Here's a little known fact -- Jesus is a Gene Simmons fan. Well, at least that is what singer-songwriter Michael Disciple says. He has written and recorded "Jesus Loves Gene Simmons," and posted a video of the song on YouTube. For close to seven minutes he sings "Jesus Loves Gene Simmons" along with a few other verses that are hard to make out. The video shows him singing and playing his guitar in the fields of Alabama interspersed with images of Jesus. And, he was smart enough not to put any images of Simmons in the clip. But, apparently Simmons likes it as he has posted it on his website along with a billboard Disciple erected in Virginia advertising tthe song.
A new trailer for Dave Grohl's documentary Sound City has been posted at the film's website. The 60-second clip features Tom Petty, John Fogerty, Butch Vig, Mick Fleetwood and Trent Reznor talking about the studio and its Neve 8028 recording console, which was used for numerous classic albums. No release date has been announced yet for the film.

A message on Lord’s website reads: “It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of Jon Lord, who suffered a fatal pulmonary embolism today, Monday, July 16th at the London Clinic, after a long battle with pancreatic cancer. Jon was surrounded by his loving family.
“Jon Lord, the legendary keyboard player with Deep Purple co-wrote many of the bands legendary songs including ‘Smoke on the Water’ and played with many bands and musicians throughout his career.
“Best known for his Orchestral work Concerto For Group & Orchestra first performed at Royal Albert Hall with Deep Purple and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in 1969 and conducted by the renowned Malcolm Arnold, a feat repeated in 1999 when it was again performed at the Royal Albert Hall by the London Symphony Orchestra and Deep Purple.
“Jon’s solo work was universally acclaimed when he eventually retired from Deep Purple in 2002.
“Jon passes from Darkness to Light."

ROB ZOMBIE, MARILYN MANSON: Team Up for Tour
Rob Zombie and Marilyn Manson are teaming up for fall tours of the U.S. and Europe. The Twins of Evil tour starts September 28th in Phoenix as part of theDesert Uprising festival and hits 18 cities before wrapping up October 31st in Dallas. The two acts will do a European version of the jaunt November 26th through December 12th. J Devil -- the DJ alter ego of Korn frontman Jonathan Davis -- will open up all the U.S. dates.

Metallica celebrates 30th Anniversary for “Kill ‘Em’ All” with VANS!!
I’m a huge fan of the great Metal Vans kicks that were coming out fast and furious for a while there a few years back. Between myself and my man we’ve got: KISS “Dressed To Kill”, Slayer & Iron Maiden Vans shoes. I know there are some killer Mastodon ones out there as well. But shhesss Metallica “Kill ‘Em All” Vans hell yeah!!
Metallica are going to mark the 30th anniversary of their debut album with some sneakers. Kicks on Fire reports that they've teamed up with Vans for a Kill 'Em All pack that will be released next year. It will contain both the Vans Slip On and Sk8 Hi, with each shoe featuring the hand-and-hammer design used for the Kill 'Em All album's cover art.
And just so ya know I’ve got a couple of things up my sleeve for 7/25 the actual 30th Anniversary of the landmark metal album!

CRO-MAGS: Violent Night
In the week's third arrest of a rock musician, Harley Flanagan -- co-founder but now a former member of long-running New York hardcore combo The Cro-Mags-- was taken into custody last night (Friday) in New York. He allegedly stabbed and bit two current members of the band in their dressing room at Webster Hall, where they were about to play a CBGB Festival show headlined by Sick of It All. William Berario and Michael Couls were hospitalized and expected to recover. Flanagan was also taken for medical treatment and charged with second-degree assault and weapons possession. The show was cancelled and the club emptied for the night.
The musical blotter began Tuesday when bassist Jacob Bach of the little-known California band Poop was arrested in Orange Country and charged with beating the band's drummer to death in a rehearsal studio. The weirdness continued Thursday night with the DUI arrest of Casey Chaos of Amen in Los Angeles.
I know Duff McKagan’s LOADED preformed at the CBGB Festival over the weekend, may have to holler at him to find out what he may have seen??

THE CULT: Tour Bus Crashes
Posted: 08:24AM July 06, 2012 PST The Cult's tour bus was involved in an early-morning accident this week en route from Croatia to Slovenia.
Singer Ian Astbury was sitting up front and says, "I was the only one awake and all of a sudden, the bus veered violently, hit the guard rail and tipped on a 45-degree angle, then righted itself and came to a halt. The guard rail was the only thing that prevented us from going over an 80-foot drop." Astbury was thrown into the aisle, injuring his neck, back and shoulder.
The rest of the band and crew were asleep in their bunks and were not badly hurt. That night's show went on as scheduled and the bus was repaired in time for the next day's drive.
The Cult is in Belgium tomorrow (Saturday) and The Netherlands on Sunday -- on a bill with Patti Smith. The band's North American tour starts August 18th in Ventura, California.

I’ve had the pleasure of interviewing the Lamb Of God guys a handful of times over the years and they’ve always been a pleasure. Hell Randy Blythe’s all time favorite band is The Accused from our neck of the woods……in an ironic twist of fate he was arrested in the Czech Republic on suspicion of manslaughter.

SLIPKNOT: Do Mayhem Without Guitarist
Posted: 08:30AM July 02, 2012 PST Slipknot are headlining the Mayhem Festival without guitarist Jim Root on stage. They've posted a note on their website saying, "Jim has been seriously sick for the past two weeks and went to the hospital last week, where he was advised that his appendix burst a couple weeks before and that it could have been life-threatening. Jim is at home recovering and is awaiting surgery to have pieces of his appendix removed, and hopes to join the tour as soon as he is able."
The Mayhem Festival continues Tuesday in Auburn, Washington.
Don’t forget Kevin and Ian of Metal Shop will be around doing interviews with all the Mayhem bands!
