Rock Hall Class of 2014! Nirvana and KISS!
Rock Hall Class of 2014! Nirvana and KISS!
Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum
Nirvana and KISS are the two biggies for most of us!  Nirvana came as no surprise and KISS was a cool surprise!

Here are what some of the inductees had to say!

NIRVANA: Thank Kurt for Getting Into the Hall

Both surviving members of Nirvana credit Kurt Cobain for their upcoming Rock Hall induction.
Dave Grohl and Krist Novoselic have issued statements reacting to their upcoming induction April 10th at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. (The induction will happen 20 years and two days after Cobain's body was found in Seattle.)
Grohl's statement says, "For once...I'm speechless. From the basements, to the dingy clubs, to the broken down vans, to...the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. I'd like to thank the committee not only for this induction, but also for recognizing Nirvana for what we were: pure rock and roll. Most of all, thank you to all of the fans that have supported rock and roll throughout the years, and to Kurt and Krist, without whom I would not be here today."
Novoselic adds, "This is a great honor. Thank you to the people who nominated and voted for us. Thank you most of all to Kurt Cobain. And to everyone who's kept rock music going strong for 60 years and counting."

KISS: Criss Says Induction is "A Dream Come True"
Peter Criss was awoken by his wife Gigi at their New Jersey home Monday night after we called with the news that KISS is headed into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
He tells us, "It goes to show that KISS has the greatest fans. I want to thank them from the bottom of my heart and I want to thank the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame for the induction. It's a dream come true. I also want to congratulate my bandmates and the late great KISS manager Bill Aucoin. And last but not least, I want to thank the Lord."
Criss was the band's original drummer from their formation in 1973 through early 1980. He rejoined in 1996 for their reunion tour and stayed until 2000 and then came back in 2002 before leaving again in 2004.
Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons also issued statements on the honor.
Stanley said, "The spirit of rock and roll for me has always meant following the paths I choose regardless of what my critics or my peers think. For 40 years KISS has built an army that apologizes to no one and I'm honored to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame knowing we have remained true to ourselves and our fans."
Simmons said, "To the KISS Army, Ace, Peter, Eric CarrVinnyMarkBruceTommyand Eric Singer, Bill Aucoin, Doc McGhee and to my partner of 40 years, the ever youthful Paul Stanley...and all the members of the KISS Family. This honor is for you. 40 years of Rockin' and still going strong."

ROCK HALL: KISS, Nirvana and Gabriel Are In
KISSPeter GabrielCat StevensLinda RonstadtHall & Oates andNirvana are headed into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Also being recognized is the E Street Band with the Award for Musical Excellence and the late Beatles manager Brian Epstein and original Rolling Stones manager Andrew Loog Oldgham will both receive the Ahmet Ertegun Award for non-performers. They will all officially be enshrined on April 10th at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, with the HBO broadcast to follow in May. This is the first time that the ceremony will be open to the public in New York. Tickets go on sale in January
Once again being overlooked are Deep PurpleYes and The Paul Butterfield Blues Band, along with this year's other nominees -- The ZombiesN.W.A.The ReplacementsLL Cool JChicLink Wray and The Meters.
Since Rolling Stone magazine publisher Jann Wenner is chairman of the Hall, his magazine got to speak to some of the inductees first and here is what they had to say:
Peter Gabriel, who was inducted with Genesis in 2010: "This time I will definitely go. I'm very grateful to have gotten in again. It's a huge honor since it's for your whole body of work and not just a specific project. I'll probably perform, but if I do 'In Your Eyes' it'll take 10 minutes and that might be all the time I have."
Hall and Oates: "It was a bit of a surprise to me," says Daryl Hall. "I've always been sort of on the other side of the fence with the old guard and the powers that be. . .This whole new generation of people are looking at me and John in a different way."
Linda Ronstadt: "My health is not great right now. It's most likely I that I won't be able to make it to New York in April. Travel is very difficult for me." She is battling Parkinson's Disease.
KISS, who has been eligible for many years, got in this time on the strength of their fans as they received 239,000 votes from the public, the most for any of this year's nominees. Nirvana gets in in their first year of eligibility and were second in the fan voting.
Acts become eligible 25 years after their first recorded release.

THE CULT: Ian Loves Lorde
THE CULT: Ian Loves Lorde

Ian-press1-2010
The Cult's Ian Astbury loves that Lorde covered one of his songs as a 12-year-old.
A clip of Lorde performing "Edie (Ciao Baby)" and Rainbow's "Man on the Silver Mountain" at a talent show hit YouTube last month. Astbury watched it and tellsRolling Stone, "Her take on my song just melts my heart. It's so beautiful. She's a powerful young woman, and it's gratifying she went with that song."
Astbury adds that he's a fan of Lorde's current work because "she's writing her own songs. There is no machine behind her. So many other artists today have a big machine behind them, but these works genuinely come out of her."

TOOL: Maynard Helps Wrestlers
TOOL: Maynard Helps Wrestlers

Ok, this is some cool sh*t!

(Free public domain picture curtsey of Wiki commons.)

Tool frontman Maynard James Keenan helped train a high school wrestling team in Michigan.
Keenan spent last week in Scottsville, Michigan with the Mason County Central High School team and their coach Jim Allen prepping for the Optimist Tournament. Keenan and Allen were teammates on the high school wrestling team in 1982. The singer not only worked with the students, he also paid for all 16 members of the team to attend an Olivet College wrestling camp.
Keenan told the the Mason County Press, "I got involved with the team last year after I found out that Jim was coaching. Jim and I wrestled together and I knew that he would give the kids the type of work ethic and pride that we grew up with. I knew they would have the drive under Jim’s leadership."

Well done Maynard!

How about a Pearl Jam haircut?
Who’s ready for a Pearl Jam haircut Friday night???

PEARL JAM: A Lightning Cut
Pearl Jam took their encore to a new, bizarre level Saturday night.
During their set in Spokane, Washington Eddie Vedder mentioned that a guy had a sign saying he wanted the band to shave his dreadlocks. Five songs into their encore Vedder brought the dreadlocked fan on stage. The fan requested the band play "Brain of J" fromYield so he'd have one more song to whip his hair around to. In the middle of the song Vedder grabbed the shears and started cutting away the dreads. After the song was over the band broke into an instrumental jam so Vedder could finish playing barber.
