RIP Jon Lord.
 
A message on Lord’s website reads: “It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of Jon Lord, who suffered a fatal pulmonary embolism today, Monday, July 16th at the London Clinic, after a long battle with pancreatic cancer. Jon was surrounded by his loving family.

“Jon Lord, the legendary keyboard player with Deep Purple co-wrote many of the bands legendary songs including ‘Smoke on the Water’ and played with many bands and musicians throughout his career.

“Best known for his Orchestral work Concerto For Group & Orchestra first performed at Royal Albert Hall with Deep Purple and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in 1969 and conducted by the renowned Malcolm Arnold, a feat repeated in 1999 when it was again performed at the Royal Albert Hall by the London Symphony Orchestra and Deep Purple.

“Jon’s solo work was universally acclaimed when he eventually retired from Deep Purple in 2002.

“Jon passes from Darkness to Light."

Legendary guitarist Slash (VELVET REVOLVERGUNS N' ROSES) has released the following statement regarding the passing of former DEEP PURPLE/WHITESNAKE keyboardist Jon Lord:

"[It's a] sad day in rock and roll; Jon Lord has passed on. One of the biggest, baddest, heaviest sounds in heavy metal. One if a kind."
 
Former DEEP PURPLE and current WHITESNAKE frontman David Coverdale has released the following statement regarding the passing of former DEEP PURPLE/WHITESNAKE keyboardistJon Lord:

"It was an absolute joy and pleasure for me to know him and to work alongside him. He is missed already."
 
BLACK SABBATH bassist Geezer Butler has released the following statement:

"[I was] very sad to hear of [former DEEP PURPLE keyboardist] Jon's [Lord] death, following his battle with the demon cancer. [He was] one of the great musicians of my generation. Tony Iommi [BLACK SABBATHguitarist] recently worked with Jon, and said what a lovely bloke he was. I met him a few times, but never got to work with him. Blessings."
 
Guitarist Damon Johnson (THIN LIZZYALICE COOPER,BROTHER CANE) has released the following statement regarding the passing of former DEEP PURPLE/WHITESNAKE keyboardist Jon Lord:

"Love and respect to the legendary Jon Lord. Condolences to his family. His mark in contemporary music is long and permanent. R.I.P."
 
Keyboardist Adam Wakeman (OZZY OSBOURNE,HEADSPACE) has released the following statement regarding the passing of former DEEP PURPLE/WHITESNAKE keyboardist Jon Lord:

"Very sad news about the great Jon Lord. [He was] one of my biggest influences and idols growing up. RIP."
 
Legendary bassist Rudy Sarzo (OZZY OSBOURNEQUIET RIOTWHITESNAKEDIO) has released the following statement regarding the passing of former DEEP PURPLE/WHITESNAKE keyboardist Jon Lord:

"My condolences to Jon Lord's family, fans and friends on his passing.Jon, thank you for being a part of the soundtrack of my life."
