Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame Announced its Class of 2014.
HALL & OATS
So Nirvana’s induction was NO SURPRISE to anyone. At least around here. However KISS was the shocker!
Press Release: ROCK HALL: KISS, Nirvana and Gabriel Are In KISS, Peter Gabriel, Cat Stevens, Linda Ronstadt, Hall & Oates andNirvana are headed into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Also being recognized is the E Street Band with the Award for Musical Excellence and the late Beatles manager Brian Epstein and original Rolling Stones manager Andrew Loog Oldgham will both receive the Ahmet Ertegun Award for non-performers. They will all officially be enshrined on April 10th at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, with the HBO broadcast to follow in May. This is the first time that the ceremony will be open to the public in New York. Tickets go on sale in January
Once again being overlooked are Deep Purple, Yes and The Paul Butterfield Blues Band, along with this year's other nominees -- The Zombies, N.W.A., The Replacements, LL Cool J, Chic, Link Wray and The Meters.
Since Rolling Stone magazine publisher Jann Wenner is chairman of the Hall, his magazine got to speak to some of the inductees first and here is what they had to say: Peter Gabriel, who was inducted with Genesis in 2010: "This time I will definitely go. I'm very grateful to have gotten in again. It's a huge honor since it's for your whole body of work and not just a specific project. I'll probably perform, but if I do 'In Your Eyes' it'll take 10 minutes and that might be all the time I have." Hall and Oates: "It was a bit of a surprise to me," says Daryl Hall. "I've always been sort of on the other side of the fence with the old guard and the powers that be. . .This whole new generation of people are looking at me and John in a different way." Linda Ronstadt: "My health is not great right now. It's most likely I that I won't be able to make it to New York in April. Travel is very difficult for me." She is battling Parkinson's Disease.
KISS, who has been eligible for many years, got in this time on the strength of their fans as they received 239,000 votes from the public, the most for any of this year's nominees. Nirvana gets in in their first year of eligibility and were second in the fan voting.
Acts become eligible 25 years after their first recorded release.
