Duff Beer Song – The Simpsons
In an column he wrote:

My name is Duff McKagan, and I play rock and roll music. The beer on "The Simpsons" show was named after me, and not the other way around. (I suppose it is a testament to how much alcohol I used to drink. Yeah, not too sexy really.)

"Our management for GN'R got a fax but it was from like an adult cartoon. Now there wasn't any adult cartoons in 1988. There just wasn't and like, 'an adult cartoon?' They want to use your name as the name of the beer on the thing and they just want your blessing. It's not like I own the name Duff, I should've trademarked that thing on up if I would've known but yeah, that think took off, that Simpsons deal."
And here's how he put it in his autobiography:

When Guns N' Roses began to break into the public consciousness, I was known as a big drinker. In 1988, MTV aired a concert in which Axl introduced me – as usual – as Duff "the King of Beets" McKagan. Soon after this, a production company working on a new animated series called me to ask if they could use the name "Duff" for a brand of beer in the show. I laughed and said of course, no problem. The whole thing sounded like a low-rent art project or something – I mean, who made cartoons for adults? Little did I know that the show would become The Simpsons and that within a few years I would start to see Duff beer glasses and gear everywhere we toured.

Six pack – Black Flag with H.Rollins

40 Oz. to freedom – Sublime

One Bourbon, One Scoth, One Beer – John Lee Hooker

Drinkin' beer – Jimmy Witherspoon

Hey Bartender – The Blues Brothers

Oh good Ale – The CopperFamily

La bière – Jacques Brel

Pretty good at drinkin' beer – Billy Currington

Roadhouse Blues – The Doors

DEFTONES: Mark Anniversary of Chi's Passing
Deftones @ Maquinária Festival 01
Deftones frontman Chino Moreno marked the first anniversary of bassist Chi Cheng's passing with a unreleased track.
On Sunday afternoon, Moreno tweeted a link to a stream of "Smile," a song recorded with Cheng for the album Eros before his car accident. The band scrapped that album in 2009 and ended up working on a new batch of material with bassist Sergio Vega that became 2010's Diamond Eyes. Cheng stayed in a semi-comatose until his death on April 13th, 2013.

NIRVANA: Rock Hall Was Just A Warm Up

29th Annual Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame Induction Ceremony - Show
NIRVANA: Rock Hall Was Just A Warm Up

Nirvana's four song set at Thursday night's Rock and Roll hall of Fame induction ceremonies was just a warmup for a full show.
Rumors about the band playing a post-induction set started during the ceremony and fans started lining up at Brooklyn's Saint Vitus club -- which holds 230 people -- at about 10 p.m. After the ceremony was over, Dave Grohl, Krist Novoselic and Pat Smear hopped in a SUV and headed to the club. They went on around 2:00 a.m. and played with five different vocalists -- Joan Jett, St. Vincent's Annie Clark, Dinosaur Junior's J. Mascis,Sonic Youth's Kim Gordon and Deer Tick's John McCauley. (McCauley might have been the best qualified to lead the band, as his group has been playing all-Nirvana shows as Deervana for a few years.)
Here's the setlist from the first full Nirvana show in 20 years:
"Smells Like Teen Spirit" (with Joan Jett)
"Breed" (with Joan Jett)
"In Bloom" (with Joan Jett)
"Territorial Pissings" (with Joan Jett)
"Drain You" (with J. Mascis)
"Penny Royal Tea" (with J. Mascis)
"School" (with J. Mascis)
"Lithium" (with Annie Clark)
"About A Girl" (with Annie Clark)
"Heart Shaped Box" (with Annie Clark)
"Serve the Servants" (with John McCaluey)
"Scentless Apprentice" (with John McCaluey)
"Tourette's" (with John McCaluey)
"Aneurysm" (with Kim Gordon)
"Negative Creep" (with Kim Gordon)
"Moist Vagina" (with Kim Gordon)

Offspring's "Smash" turns 20!

Offspring's "Smash" turns 20!!

It was on this day 20 freakin' years ago that The Offspring released "Smash". It's the only album to refer to the band as Offspring and not The Offspring. This became a seminal album for the 90's. Not to mention the fact that it's the bestselling independent label album of all time. In the US alone it's sold 6 million copies. Dang!

Tonight for 90 Something I'll pay tribute to Smash.

In the meantime dig the playlist with the entire album and enjoy the video's below.

Seattle Rock Day my radio inspiration Cathy Faulkner!

Seattle Rock Day my radio inspiration Cathy Faulkner!

Happy Seattle Rock Day Rockaholics!

Growing up in a strict household in Eastern Washington I dreamed of what was happening in our fair city in the 90's. When I was 15 I heard the legend of The Late Cathy Faulkner. Cathy spent 20 years at KISW. Starting out as an intern moving on to nights, Music Director and Assistant Program Director at KISW during a REALLY important time. I knew at 15 what my dream job was and was willing to do whatever it took to follow in her footsteps. Cathy was our second personality inductee in to KISW's Hall Of Fame. Her work and contributions to the Seattle music scene and the sound of KISW are immeasurable in my opinion.

Peep the link to learn more on Cathy. She was without a doubt a trailblazer for women in rock radio.

Cathy and I sat down for one of my all-time favorite interviews for our 40 Years of Rock celebration. The questions I had for her, lord! She was patient and kind.,cntnt01,default,0&cntnt01aid=5&cntnt01returnid=127

In the interview above she spoke at great length about Pearl Jam's Drop In The Park show, stealing Eddie Vedder from Pearl Jam's press conference and much more!

Here is Cathy and Ed from Drop in the Park! Were you there?

Sit N Spin! Closer look at PART of The Seattle Music Family Tree!

Skin Yard-1988

As we gear up for Seattle Rock Day on Thursday, how about a closer look at PART of The Seattle Music Family Tree. Now, not everyone is included here, but we covered a good chunk of the wonderful incestuous scene of the 80's into the 90's.

There are a number of local music family tree's out there. I went with this one.
