STP's BLOG 04/16/15 "Faith No More - TONIGHT!"

This tweet pretty much sums up how I am feeling this morning!

I am so beyond pumped for tonight… I am such a huge fan of this band, and I never thought that they would be touring again…so tonight will definitely be something special.

I have been a fan of this band since I first heard The Real Thing (the record that gave us Epic)…soon after that I became obsessed with their music. I love the stuff they did with Chuck Mosely, and obviously love everything that they have done with Mike Patton on vocals (one of the best vocalists ever if you ask me!). Hell…at one point I convinced my high school band to cover one of their earlier songs, "As The Worm Turns"…and then convinced my band that I was in here in Seattle, Peter Parker, to record a cover of that song… we recorded it with Chris Walla (Death Cab For Cutie), and it's one of my favorite things we have ever recorded! Check it out:

I started thinking of different Faith No More songs that I am a fan of, and this blog would be a novel if I shared every song that I geek out over…but a few popped into my mind. Faith No More sadly is known by the masses for their song Epic ("What. Is. It.)…I still enjoy listening to that song, as it is bad ass…but this song should not define this band. The song is one of many different styules of music that Faith No More performed… one of the most unpredictable bands musically that I have ever listened too. They could rap, shred, be poppy, and explore dark themes and sounds – their record "Angel Dust" is my favorite of them all. The record is a master piece…I knowe many will think I am just throwing that term out there loosely, but it really is. It's dark and sinistyer, yet catchy as all hell. I'll never forget hearing the first single off of this record (before the album came out) and intantly knew that we were about to get something special from this band…

I always loved the covers that they did…especially when they picked songs that you wouldn't expect them to do…like this cover of The Commodores classic, "Easy".

The cover that I still list as my favorite though is when they paid tribute to the Bee Gees (yes, the Bee Gees) and covered "I Started A Joke" – Patton's voice is on point on this one for sure!

I sure hope they do this song tonight…one of my favorite performances from them…

Next month we will get a new record from Faith No More, it's called Sol Invictus, and based on the songs I have heard so far…we are in for another incredible…and uniquie sounded effort from the fellas!

Damn it…I have to share good one… I love the vibe of this song, and the vocals are killer!

STP's BLOG 04/15/15 "Hawks In Hawaii"

This Facebook post by Russell Wilson made my morning.

Learning how to Hula with the best crew around #luau

Posted by Russell Wilson on Tuesday, April 14, 2015

This is one of the few (and I mean few) reasons why I love social media…it's a fun way to see the guys on my favorite team do stuff that shows a human side.

I enjoyed that video, but of all the pix and videos that the team has been postiong from Hawaii…the best one goes to #51, Bruce Irvin! Bruce posted a pic where he and his new teammate (and former bitter rival) Jimmy Graham were about to duke it out! Clearly it's a joke, but it's an awesome way to squash any questions if there is still any issues between those two.

Man of my word! #LoveOurBrothers @bwagz54 @bambamkam @rsherman25 @thejimmygraham @jkearse15 @seahawks @nfl

This week on the STP-CAST we had an awesome chat with Corey Taylor of Slipknot! If you misse it, check it out on iTUNES, Stitcher, or HERE!

In the interview we mention that his other band, Stone Sour, covered a Metallica song. This is an awesome version of Creeping Death…it will be on their new EP "Meanwhile in Burbank"…which comes out this Saturday as part of Record Store Day.

STP's BLOG 04/14/15 "Live In The Present Tense"

I say lots of stupid stuff on air… but every once in a while I might have a nugget of inspiration for the masses. I am a true believer in not dwelling in the past. I thank Eddie Vedder and Pearl Jam's song "Present Tense" for being my mantra.

Well BJ this morning mentioned how he respects that I never seem to let past stuff dictate my decisions etc, and I said that I consider every day as a re-set for my life and that I move forward to the best of my abilities. After I said it, it was cool to see that it sesonated with someone!

Today is Throwback Tuesday, a special day of course. So I came across a couple fun pictures from back in the day. This one is trippy…look how different Ted looks… about 8 years ago we got to enjoy thanksgiving together!

This pic is from when I played in a band with my buddy…

STP's BLOG 04/13/15 -- "Meet the Rock Girls"

This past weekend was definitely a busy one, but a fun one as we got to spend some time hanging with the Rock-A-Holics! On Friday we had our big "Meet The Rock Girls" party, and it was AWESOME!

Before we went to the party, we grabbed dinner at the Blazing Onion. I have wanted to go there for a while, and I was not disappointed by their food one bit. I had a burger with a pretzel bun that I wish I could eat again right now!

 photo blaze 2_zpskuac1bln.jpg

We also had a Mud Pie that all 6 of us couldn't even finish! It was so damn good…and HUGE!

 photo blaze1_zpsftnoz8mk.jpg

Besides the fact that the food at the Blazing Onion is great…the staff there couldn't be nicer, awesome customer service! It was cool meeting Mannie – who tweeted out a pic of all of us!

After dinner it was off to the Sound Check Bar & Grill in Lynnwood. What an awesome spot...the bar is real cool, and proips to Justin and the rest of the staff at the bar -- great times for sure!

It's always a blast to meet the ladies that will represent The Rock, and we are in good hands…all of these girls are smoking hot, and from the brief conversations I had with them all…they are super cool as well. I am sure we will have pictures posted soon…until then, here are a couple shots that I took!

Big thanks to the band, We Are Harlot, as they played right after we finished…and those guys kick some serious ass! Based on what they tweeted me, I think they enjoyed the night as well!

Here is a video of the girls on stage…enjoy!

Yesterday a bunch of us went bowling for the Sleep Country Pajama Bowl. We helped raise money for foster kids, and I consider this my yearly reminder that I am a TERRIBLE bowler!

The highlight of the day was that I spotted BJ in an interesting pose…

STP's BLOG 04/10/15 "Meet The Rock Girls -- Tonight!"

I'm no Madonna fan… I know, that is shocking to many that I don't vogue to the Material Girl. I do have to give her props for what she just did on the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon. She was a part of one of his bits where they play music with classroom instruments, and this time they covered Madonna's song, "Holiday". It's pretty damn awesome…

Tonight we hope to see you at the Sound Check Bar & Grill in Lynnwood for our Meet The Rock Girls Party. Not only will we be there, but I hear Ryan Castle is coming, and Thee Ted Smith texted me yesterday saying that he is in too. Which means one thing… if they need a DJ and a Hype Man… we are your guys!

If you want more details on tonight's party, which starts at 7pm and is FREE … click HERE. Vicky once again caught me getting "ready" for tonight!

We can't wait for the Meet the Rock Girls listener party tonight, and we want to see YOU there! Come party with us at...

STP's BLOG 04/09/15 "Intern Ashley!"

This morning started off great… why? Because of our intern. Today is our intern Ashley's last day, and when I walked into the staff kitchen, there was a box of Legendary Donuts and a note. Turns out the note was for us, and it was from our intern Ashley!

 photo bcda638a-5bdb-4671-a961-1215e9374780_zpsbi6r4hlj.jpg

 photo EA40CB1B-AECF-4F97-8067-391BB365849D_zpsgvro1a9e.jpg

If you can't read the note…she wrote:

I just wanted to thank each of you for letting me hang out at the station for the past three months, and for all of the time you invested in teaching me. Thank you for the chance you all gave me, this internship experience has been so incredibly valuable and I can't wait to see what comes next! I hope this won't be the last that I see you all, and I appreciate everything you all have taught me. Thank you, intern Ashley a.k.a. the noisy cricket

You just don't see this type of sentiment as much anymore. I know it doesn't seem like an over the top gesture, and sure I am easily swayed by donuts that have cereal on them, but with that type of spirit and attention to detail…and just a firm grasp on being a appreciative person, I can see Ashley going far in this business. I know I am rooting for her…so long as she keeps bringing us food of course.

A new episode of the MegaCast is up…it's a podcast THAT Thee Ted Smith and I do, and this is a fun one – we recap our trip to Spokane, we play audio of an insane moment that happened during Bert Kreischer's show in Seattle, and we play a fun game of "If You Could Only Pick One!" Please listen, subscribe on iTUNES or Stitcher, and tell some friends about it! Follow us on Twitter too -- @TheMegaCast

STP's BLOG 04/08/15 "Help Out A Local Athlete"

I have been fortunate enough to play with many talented hockey players around this area. I love playing against highly skilled guys as it forces me to try harder, and the hope (it's a big hope) is that it will make me a better goalie.

One of the guys I have had many opportunities to share the ice with is a guy named Ryan Raven. Ryan is a great dude, and an incredible hockey player that has played around the country (he's from Tacoma)…playing hockey at a high level. He currently plays for the Peoria Rivermen of the SPHL…and recently during game one of the playoffs, Ryan suffered from a fractured vertebrae in his lower back when he crashed into part of the rink. He currently cannot walk…hopefully he will be able to soon. Here is a TV report that was done on what happened…

KATC.com | Continuous News Coverage | Acadiana-Lafayette

Ryan is going to have a ton of medical expenses, and a minor league hockey player doesn't get rich, they play because they love the sport…so any help you could provide his family will be appreciated!
www.gofundme.com/ryanraven

Speaking of hockey…on a happier note, when my hockey team went to Spokane last weekend…Lyon Pride Music (they provided us the awesome 40 foot party bus), brought a guy to film the festivities to make a music video. Huge props to Duane Hicks for making this! He did an awesome job making us look like we played well haha

Duane makes some cool videos…check out his SkateTV253 You Tube page HERE.

STP's BLOG 04/07/15 "The Rock Rules"

It must be my time of the month, as I was hit with a rather emotional moment thanks to a Facebook post by The Rock (yes, Dwayne Johnson) that elicited some tears.

The Rock is easily one of my favorite actors (and of course one of my favorite wrestlers)…and reading what he just did for a fan makes me think he is a pretty incredible person as well.

Cool story to share on Easter… After my workout I'm driving in my pick up and notice these kids in the rearview mirror...

Posted by Dwayne The Rock Johnson on Sunday, April 5, 2015

How damn cool is that?

I have been lucky enough to meet The Rock once…he held a press conference at The Fairmont (for the movie Walking Tall) and after the press conference he made a B-Line to me because he spotted my tattoos and he wanted to see them up close. I would love to post that pic of him and I that I took that day, but this was back in the flip phone days and I didn't have a phone that could send pictures...back in the stone age days!

STP's BLOG 04/06/15 "NW Classic Hockey Tournament"

Over the weekend, my hockey team (Tacoma Donkeys) made our annual trip to Spokane for the NW Classic Hockey Tournament…and once again it was amazing. Every year we saythis is the best one yet, and that we won't be able to top it…but somehow we did it again. We have one person to thank for that – Levi Lyon.

Levi is a music promoter, and also owns a few party busses…Lyon Pride Music, and last year we took his Party Bus that holds 15 people and it was awesome. This year, Levi took it to a whole new level by taking their new 40 foot bus (yes, it's a full sized school bus turned into a party bus) on the trip!

 photo 1205E3C0-47F5-42B0-8F37-2D25D75A7F79_zpsw3feotg9.jpg

This bus is AWESOME – we had plenty of room in it to relax on the trip…plus there is a DJ booth in the back of the bus that myself and Ted and my team mates Heaney and J-Mac took over throughout the weekend!

Here is a cool video about his party busses…including the new 40 foot one!

Here is another cool video -- this one is the making of the 40 foot party bus...

Huge props to Levi, Grace, Rich, and Dwayne from Lyon Pride Music for showing us a great time, and getting us to and from Spokane safely. Also huge thanks to Thee Ted Smith for once again coaching us…the man brought a whistle this time!

 photo 1060464B-5581-41C0-81D5-F11C39A93064_zpsbiu5giqs.jpg

Here are a few pics we took on the trip…

 photo 0AAF26DA-C677-4DB0-9FD1-1BFE5A8BC378_zpstpsfwzyh.jpg

 photo 4050A171-08C4-4551-A88F-B2536BBF389F_zps1gaqwhe3.jpg

This is my favorite picture… while one of the other teams (Hockey Source) was playing, Monson from our team had a drink or two during their game and thought they needed him to coach them…so yes, he ended up just standing on their bench.

 photo 25FBA3F7-DB69-408D-B99D-35C3C5FDEA0D_zps5jb9tslo.jpg

The highlight of the experience on the bus was that at one point we were partying on the bus outside of a bar and a bunch of people that were leaving the bar after last call ended up the bus…so somehow we turned the bus into a mobile rave…it was pure insanity! At one point in the video below you will see someone sleeping -- yes that is one of our teammates passed out on one of the bench seats while this party was going on.

STP's BLOG 04/02/15 "Seattle Rock Day"

Today is Seattle Rock Day…AKA…my favorite day of the year! The music scene in Seattle is a huge reason why I moved here…I love everything about it, so today is a blast to listen to many of the bands that truly have inspired me!

This scene is still alive and thriving. There are many great bands in town, and this week on my podcast, we were lucky to have one of them on – Windowpane! Glenn and Tony from Windowpane joined us to chat about their free show/documentary screening this Saturday at Studio 7. Get more info at www.Windowpane.net

Here they are doing an acoustic song off their new CD that they are working on…it's called "Lady Jessica".

While I had them on, we decided to "jam" – I had my Garage Band app on my iPHONE, so I played "drums" with them on a cover of "War Pigs" – it was a fun struggle trying to play it right!

Hear their full interview, plus they do another new song, on this week's STP-CAST!

STP's BLOG 04/01/15 "Hockey Tournament With Booze!"

Yesterday we had a fun episode of the STP-CAST! We had Nick Fleehart on the show…Nick is a part of a hockey tournament that travels across the U.S. and Canada called the Draft Tournament. This is an awesome concept of a tournament where you sign up…and spend a weekend with fellow hockey players. You spend Friday night getting to meet…cough DRINK cough…with the other players and then draft a team that you will play with all weekend. They are coming to Bremerton in June (19th-21st)…get more info at www.DraftTournament.com

I am planning on playing so it would be awesome if we get a bunch of listeners to play as well…skill level doesn't even matter…they will make sure all the teams have a healthy balance of all skill levels…this is more about having a blast, boozing, and friendly competition! Plus…they make some crazy looking jersey's that you get to keep. They do different themes…for example, they were in Toronto last weekend and so it was a Don Cherry theme. All of the jersey's were made to look like his colorful suits that Don wears on Hockey Night In Canada! Check them out!

Listen to the STP-CAST…not only do we have Nick on the show, but we chat with Windowpane about their free show at Studio 7 this Saturday, and we get a re-cap from our boss Sgt. Hairclub, who was there!
