STP's BLOG 06/04/14 "Hey Lloyd!"
All great baseball play by play guys have their catch phrases…the late great Dave Niehaus was all about “My Oh My”, “Fly Away”, and everyone’s fave: “Get out the rye bread and mustard, Grandma, it is grand salami time!" I grew up watching the Yankees and Phil Rizzuto made “Holy Cow” into a catch phrase for every kid playing waffle ball in the streets of Brooklyn.
And now Dave Sims has his signature call…if he chooses to go with it. On Monday night the Mariners were playing the Yankees, and Kyle Seager hit a 3-run home run in the 9th, and Dave’s call made absolutely no sense.
HAHAHA! “"Hey Lloyd! Do some … delivery … for the truck … to the airport!"
Dave said later that he was referring to Mariners manager Lloyd McClendon, who likes to reward players with ice cream sometimes…which is awesome if you ask me, but it came out as complete nonsense and that should be the new home run call!
What I love about this is that we have all been there…I find great humor in this because I relate 100% to brain farts!
Hell, on this week’s STP-CAST a “Titanic Douche” pointed out a couple recent instances…check it out:
