Steve Migs Blog 07/31/15 "Learn To Fly"

I don't know what's happening to me…but some random stuff puts me in an emotional state. Yesterday I came across a video that made me tear up a little bit… this video just confirms my love and passion for music. The joy you will see in the faces of everyone singing and playing is giving me goose bumps as I type this. That feeling I see on their face is the feeling I have when I jam on the drums with my buds!

A guy in Italy is trying to convince the Foo Fighters in his town. So for the past year he has been working on this huge event – to have 1000 people perfom the song "Learn To Fly". Watch and enjoy!

I don't know if you caught the guy on the drums at about 1:12 into that video, but as I was watching the video I was saying to myself, "damn…I wish I could have been there" and then BAM…my twin brother appears on the screen. That was pretty trippy to see!

Happy Seafair Weekend everyone! The weather is going to be great…the Blue Angels are here! I came across this amazing photo on Twitter… This would be an awesome picture framed on a wall!

Steve Migs Blog 07/31/15 "Learn To Fly"

This was the best news to come down during our show... Russell Wilson just signed a new deal for a TON of money! Seeing this tweet made me jump for joy... seriously... I jumped up and down in excitement while on the air!

How excited am I? Right before we started Beat Migs I read Russell's tweet confirming the news...

Here's a new fun game you can play with your drunk friends! Some guy fell asleep in the backseat of a car, so his friends decided to see how many Twizzlers they could stick in his mouth without waking him up.

They managed to fit 11 in there...yes, ELEVEN...plus two in his glasses before he woke up…

Steve Migs Blog 07/29/15 "Rainier On Pine"

Yesterday The Migs Cast went on a road trip to visit one of Washington's recreational pot shop… Rainier On Pine in Tacoma.

This was basically like parents (Rev and I) taking a son (Nick) to the greatest toy store in the world. Nick was like a kid in a candy shop. Thanks to Donnie for inviting us by after we interviewed him on a recent episode of The Migs Cast!

If you missed that interview… check it out here.

Huge thanks to the rest of the crew at Rainier On Pine: Liz, Jeff, John, and Brian – your passion for the product was a blast to be around…it was fun to learn about the different ways people use marijuana…from smoking it…to drops…to edibles…to lotions to help with ailments, it was beyond informative. Plus my favorite nugget of info…when it comes to the affect of Indica weed as opposed to Sativa… Indica = In-Da-Couch!

Steve Migs Blog 07/28/15 "Doing The Whip and The Nae Nae"

Yesterday I shared my experience at the Motley Crue show. I don't think anyone's experience could top my bud Jean-Marcus and everyone else that was fortunate enough to sit on the mini stage that Motley Crue had set up by the sound board for their encore. Check out this sweet video my bud posted…it's an incredible perspective!

MÖTLEY CRÜE encore of "Home Sweet Home" that I filmed from the elevated platform "Crües Nest" stage. 7.24.15. Once in a lifetime memory right there.

This week on The MegaCast, we learn how to "Whip" and "Nae Nae"...as we plan on busting these dance moves out while in attendance at Monday Night Raw. Thanks to Tanch from HOT 103.7 for being our "teacher".

Check out this week's episode of The MegaCast here:

While listening to this week's episode, we play audio from this cop with a crazy warning message to a crook. Here is the video so that you can play along!

Steve Migs Blog 07/27/15 "Motley Crue Still Rocks!"

I love this clip! It's a great moment when a news anchor decides to share some info that was probably best left for when the cameras were OFF!

A news team from Reno was reporting on Amazon beating Walmart in sales, and one anchor claimed the reason was Amazon sells love toys . . . and Walmart doesn't. It got awkward, especially for his co-host. Check it out.

Would anyone be shocked if the guy was reporting the news with no pants on? I do have to say that is a rather interesting nugget of info. His buddy is probably right!

What was up with the weather yestersay? Hail? What the hell! Here is what was happening outside of our house…in slomo, because well… everything is cooler in slowmo!

Over the weekend I went to the Motley Crue show. This is their final tour, so I figured that I should see them one last time (hell they were my very first concerst back when I was a teen), and man am I glad I went! They were awesome. Last time I saw them was a few years ago, and it was pretty bad… Vince's voice was bad, the band was great…so I was nervous about this show. I have to say, that he sounded great. Yes, he can't hit the notes he used to be abale to hit…but he sounded pretty good, and the entire show was a blast!

They started off with Girls, Girls, Girls…

This is such an underrated Crue song…Primal Scream...

Hell yes Motley Crue! - Steve Migs

Steve Migs Blog 07/24/15 "Ex's & Oh's Yo!"

The weekend is finally here! I have been digging a song by this new artist Elle King called Ex's & Oh's. I love her voice…check out the video, there is quite a bit of beefcake in this video, but it's still a cool video.

Now here is the part that will blow your mind. Elle King is Rob Schneider's daughter!

Yes, that Rob Schneider.

Today we were chatting quite a bit about Star Wars… and then I just came across this awesome video of chipmunks battling it out with light sabers! It's two chipmunks, and thanks to special effects it looks like they're holding lightsabers, with audio from "Revenge of the Sith".

May the force be with you…you cute lil' creatures!

Steve Migs Blog 07/23/15 "Think Before You Print"

Today the guys gave me a hard time for something that was on the back of a paper I used for my news report. I try and recycle paper so I don't waste too much, and while I was doing news, BJ was distracted by what was on the other side of my weather report…

If you look up the word "awkward", this video should be used as an example of the words meaning.

The LA Lakers had a press conference to welcome 3 new players to the team: Roy Hibbert, Lou Williams, and Brandon Bass. During the press conference, or "presser" as sports media will annoyingly call it, a reporter asked how they feel about playing with Kobe Bryant. What you will see next (it starts at about 19 minutes in on the video) is 10 of the most awkward silent seconds I have ever seen…

Kobe is known for not being the most welcoming player…he has been dubbed "selfish" in the past…but wow…that silence says plenty!

Here is a crazy video that we came across this morning… a deer making an insanely odd sound. Check it out!

Of course this led to people wanting me to do my best impression of this deer…here goes nothing!

We wound up talking about this story again later in the show...and they asked me to recreate the "magic":

Steve Migs Blog 07/22/15 "Lulu & Daniel Bryan"

So I posted a pic on Twitter yesterday, and then I put my phone down… come back to my phone later only to see that the picture got over 100 favorites and a bunch of retweets. I quickly realized why… It never hurts to have WWE Superstar (and Aberdeen's own), Daniel Bryan retweet the pic.
Why would he retweet it? Well this is why…

Lulu of course is very excited about her new found fame. Next Thursday Daniel Bryan will be at Third Place Books in Ravenna doing a book signing. He will most likely join us in studio…which I am very excited about of course! I just started reading the book, and so far its an awesome read… I love how it's based around the moments leading up to Wrestlemania 30 (where he won the title), but through it he shares many great stories from the past.

Today is the big day… "Sharknado 3 Oh Hell No!" will be on SyFy at 9pm. We had Tara Reid & Ian Ziering on the show, which rules! Sadly Tara didn't share her shark theories like she did a couple years ago with our bud Josh Wolf on "Shark After Dark"…

Steve Migs Blog 07/21/15 "Break A Leg Dave!"

Once again, Dave Grohl continues to illustrate why he is the coolest dude in rock.
If you aren't keeping up with the world that is Dave Grohl… recently he broke his leg, and he has been still doing shows with the band…playing the guitar and singing as he sits on some insanely cool rock throne!

But … that's not the most recent example of Grohl being awesome. The Foos just played Fenway Park in Boston…and Dave decided to bring up the doctor that performed surgery on his broken leg… his name is Lew, and he wound up singing with the band for a cover of The White Stripes. Hell…he did a good job!

Speaking of Dave's broken leg… how cool is this shirt that they are selling at the shows…

Steve Migs Blog 07/17/15 "Wedding Season"

Summer is here…which means one thing… ok, there are many things…but for the purpose of this blog…it's wedding season!

Yay!

Right? Ok…like me, I am sure you dread having to attend a bunch of weddings. Weddings aren't an awful experience, but they are all pretty much the same. Beautiful ceremony…one too many speeches…maybe a bridesmaid crying during her speech as it hits her that she is now the only single one in her circle of friends.

We need more excitement, people. We need a memory.

This, my friends, is excitement…as a groomsman takes stupidity (and athleticism) to the next level!
A bridesmaid and groomsman at someone's wedding tried to make a big entrance by dancing into the reception, and the guy did a couple back handsprings onto the dance floor, but on the second one he kicked the bridesmaid in the HEAD.

Happy Wedding Season!

Steve Migs Blog 07/16/15 "Judah & The Lion"

I have been geeking out a band recently, and my geek-dom went to the next level yesterday as I just bought their new record on vinyl and got a T-Shirt in the process too…

Who are Judah & The Lion? This group has somehow figured out a way to rock out with a banjo, mandolin, and more! The songs are incredible… great lyrics and voice by front man Judah Akers, what sold me on them is a song called "Somewhere In Between". It's about not being pigeonholes by whatever it is that you are into. There is a part in the song that completely made me love this band and his words:

Oh, and I'm in love with Jesus…I have so much hope and peace down in my soul. I like drinking a beer with dinner. I like hanging out with sinners at my home. I ain't no preacher…I ain't no heathen, by any means. I guess I lie somewhere in-between.

Judah nailed it right there. People are usually shocked when I tell them that I play drums for a couple worship teams at my church. I get that I don't look the part, nor do I always act the part…I don't think any of us do, but so many try to be a certain way and in turn aren't true to themselves.

On a lighter example…it's like our job. Just because I work at a hard rock station, doesn't mean I can't like Judah & The Lion…or hell…that I can't like Taylor Swift. I like music…clearly I LOVE rock, but I enjoy all types… EDM, folk, pop, country, rap…good music is good music. I guess I lie somewhere in between, huh?

I think we need to not stay in our "lane" more often...we should celebrate that, not try and paint ourselves into a corner.

There are so many great songs off of their new record called Kids These Days". This song is great, and I love the video…

I hope they make a video for this song eventually…. This is the first song off the record, and the moment the vocals start I was instantly hooked… it's like a blue grass version of an Alt-J breakdown!

So there ya go. My pick of the week (I say that like I have some sort of a feature called "The Pick Of The Week"…which I don't) is Judah & The Lion!

Steve Migs Blog 07/15/15 "Van Eps!"

Yesterday we had a blast with the fellas in the band, Van Eps.

Who are Van Eps? A really cool local band that is making some waves in the local music world. Hell...they had Scott Olson produce their self titled new record. Scott has worked with guys like Alice In Chains, Queensryche, and Heart! Here is a music video for one of the songs off their new CD…"Save Yourself":

So we have them in, and an awesome moment happened. I jokingly asked "Hey do you know any Poison?" Then this happened…

While in studio they did some other songs too…including this great song of their new record… "The Ballad Of John & Mary":

Van Eps will be playing at Rock & Rally For The Troops on 8/1 at Cheney Stadium. Get tickets at www.RockAndRallyForTheTroops.com .

Steve Migs Blog 07/13/15 "Epic First Pitch!"

We were watching a video this morning where a woman and a 13-year-old kid were strapped into a slingshot ride at an amusement park in Wisconsin on Thursday. Right before they launched, one of the bungees SNAPPED. Thankfully they are fine. If you watch the video… the trippy part is that the kid's dad was trying to freak him out before the ride by joking that the bungees looked a "little frayed."

Wow…thankfully nothing bad happened…that dad would have that moment stuck in his head forever…yeesh!

After watching this, I have to applaud the mom and kid. They seem way to calm and collected. I would be screaming like a maniac to get me off if this effing ride! It would be a meltdown that many would probably goof on me at my expense (not the first time that's happened)…hell, I might even get to be on the web redemption segment of Tosh!

Over the weekend…I did what I sought out to do…watch this fine cinematic masterpiece: Police Academy.

I have to say… the pacing is definitely different than current comedic films, but it's still a fun watch!
I also watched the M's game on Saturday… props to the Mariners for doing something real cool, and making history in the process. They had a 108 year old fan throw out the first pitch. By doing so… Evelyn Jones became the oldest person to throw out a ceremonial first pitch. And she did a better job than 50 Cent – waka waka!

If you haven't seen 50 Cent's first pitch debacle…check it out…

I didn't get to catch UFC 189, but it sounded like a great night of fights as Conpr McGregor won the featherweight belt. However, that doesn't mean I didn't get to catch a great battle… this battle was between our pup Lulu and my in-laws pup Trixie for the puppyweight title! Here is a taste of that battle…in slow mo!

Steve Migs Blog 07/10/15 "Sharknado & the Goot!"

This morning we were talking about how excited we are for the new Sharknado movie that will be on SyFy in a couple weeks. We are even more excited because the 2 stars of the movie – Ian Ziering and Tara Reid will be on our show in the near future.

That's right Steve mother Effing Sanders will be on with us! Cross that one off the interview bucket list… now all I need is Steve Guttenberg!

Yes…we need to talk to one of Hollywood's finest… a man I affectionately call, "The Goot"! He was the star of some of my favorite films growing up – all of the Police Academy films…3 Men & A Baby… Short Circuit. It's time for a Goot resurgence… and I don't think I'm alone because he too will be starring in a future SyFy movie called "Lavalantula".

What is Lavalantula? Giant lava-breathing tarantulas attack Los Angeles. Hell yes… I'm sold!

Best part about this film... I looked at the cast list... and another reason why the Goot rules... he takes care of his own! Also in the movie is Michael Winslow (the guy that makes crazy sound effects with his mouth)... his co-star in the Police Academy films.

Steve Migs Blog 07/09/15 "Get Gronk'd With Gronk On Gronk Island!"

For a second…Hawks fans, lets forget that we aren't fans of the Patriots and the players on the team.

Ok…now that we have done that… is there a player out there that would be more fun to party with than Rob Gronkowski?

There isn't.

I doubt you can find a guy that would be more fun than him.

First off… as a hockey fan, I love that he appeared at a Bruins game for the ceremonial puck drop and SPIKED the puck….

Lets also not forget his awesome appearance on Conan with Marshawn Lynch...

But more importantly… not only does Gronk and his family have a party bus they take to games, but they also have a party cruise that they are doing in February. It's called Gronk's Party Ship (www.gronkspartyship.com) …and it looks AWESOME! Check out the video he posted:

Steve Migs Blog 07/08/15 "The Court Of The Internet"

Here is one of my rare soap box moments, but I wanted to briefly address this Jared From Subway controversy.

If you aren't aware of what is going on…The FBI raided Jared Fogle's home yesterday morning as part of a child pornography investigation. The guy who was the head of Jared's charity foundation was arrested in April for child pornography, and this was part of the investigation.

This is a very important piece of info on this story: Jared has NOT been charged with any crimes. Jared has NOT been arrested.

Yet, in the eyes of the court of the internet… Jared is already GUILTY!

Because of this, Subway was forced to sever ties with him until the investigation is done. A children's charity that Jared worked with has dropped him as their spokesperson too. Both have removed him from their sites.

I know that they are distancing them from him until this investigation is over… but I think that there is no going back. No matter what happens, Jared's career is DONE. Attaching his name to child porn is one of the most heinous things that it could be connected to, and even if he is found innocent…I would be shocked if he is brought back into the fold.

This is a tough one to wrap my head around… I don't necessarily want to defend a guy that at the end of the day might be guilty (I have no idea what is going on and would prefer to wait until more info comes out), but this internet witch hunt scares me.

I have seen so many people on social media already call him a creep, a pedophile, etc… if his name eventually gets cleared… no one will care, he is stuck with the label. People will still joke about him when it comes to this, and I really doubt there is any coming back for him (when it comes to being a public figure). Nobody cares that some person's life (that they don't know) has been flushed down the toilet.

BJ brought up excellent points about "innocent til' proven guilty"… those days are fully gone…I know that… but now we aren't even waiting for more info to make an opinion, we have created a storyline of guilt based on a common procedure that the FBI does for an investigation like this.

I know we live in a judgmental world. I'm guilty of that many times, and struggle to get better about that…but at least wait for more info than a TMZ headline to formulate an opinion on a person's fate.

Steve Migs Blog 07/07/15 "Hidden Talents!"

Today we were talking about celebrities and their hidden talents…and I was shocked and surprised by all of these!

This one is real cool, as I have always wanted to do this…but the one smart particle in my brain keeps telling me that I will not only set myself on fire but everything around me… and that is to breathe fire! Well, Pierce Brosnan can breathe fire . . . He learned to do it in 1969 when he was 16, but stopped after he burned the inside of his mouth on an episode of "The Muppets" in 1996. You can't tell anything went wrong, but you can watch it here.

Did you know that Condoleeza Rice is a classical pianist? A video of her playing "Amazing Grace" with a violinist named Jenny Oaks Baker has been making the rounds this week.

Geena Davis is a world-class archer. She started doing it as a hobby in the late '90s, and almost made the Olympic team about two years later.

Steve Buscemi is an excellent juggler. He wanted to be a street performer, and practiced every day as a kid. He showed off his skills on an episode of "Boardwalk Empire" in 2012.

Christopher Walken was a lion tamer. He did it while he worked for a traveling circus as a teenager.

Vicky decided to share with us her hidden talent – that she could make a clover leaf thingy with her tongue!

Steve Migs Blog 07/02/15 "Hamster Fourth!"

I really can't keep up with all of the crazy internet fads…especially when it comes to viral videos. But I think that's a good thing… that way when I see something that has been done a lot, I still find great humor in it.

I guess there has been this ongoing video involving hamsters eating tiny food. The series is called "tiny hamsters eating tiny food" … I haven't seen a single one, until today.

If you were listening this morning at around 6:50 – I was distracted by this video and BJ called me out for it. It's a hamster and a bunch of other undersized animals eating tiny hamburgers and corn on the cob.

Happy 4th Of July everyone. Please be safe, and please keep in mind our vets… excessive fireworks doesn't sit well with some men and women that have fought for our country… I'm not trying to get on a soap box and be the fun police, but at the least please try not to be up until 3 am shooting off fireworks. I suggest watching more hamsters eating tiny food at that time.

Huge thanks to the guys in Klover Jane for coming in yesterday on The Migs Cast. They joined us to chat about their upcoming show, which is 8/1 at Cheney Stadium! They are a part of Rock & Rally For The Troops...a benefit for Operation Ward 57. You can get tickets at www.RockAndRallyForTheTroops.com .

While in studio, they performed a couple of songs… here is an acoustic version of their song, "Livin' To Ride".

Yesterday I noticed that a trailer for the movie Creed was released. This is the Rocky themed movie that is based on the son of Apollo Creed (Rocky's opponent in the first two Rocky films), and how he is also a boxer. At first I was hesitant to watch this… I am such a fan of the Rocky franchise, I really didn't know how to feel about another movie being made…but midway this trailer I was 100% sold! I cannot wait to see this film!
