STP's BLOG 07/21/14 "The Hold Steady - Best Show Ever!"

Ok…I'm about to talk about a band that some of you might not have heard of, but for those in "the know"…I think you will be nodding your head in agreement as you read this.

On Friday night I went to The Hold Steady concert at the Neptune. I have jokingly said after every concert that the band that I saw put on the "greatest show I have ever seen"…however; I say this with all sincerity…their show on Friday night was the greatest show I have ever seen.

 photo hs1_zpsd519fc75.jpg

I was first introduced to the Hold Steady one late night while watching Conan (back when he was on after the Tonight Show), and they were the musical guest. They played a song off of their second record "Seperation Sunday"…the song is called "Your Little Hoodrat Friend", and I was blown away by their energy, the songwriting, and their front man Craig Finn. He was more telling a story than singing a song, and I was hooked.

That night I went online and ordered both of their CD's ("…Almost Killed Me" and "Seperation Sunday")…I wanted to hear it so bad that I spent more money on the shipping (I had it sent as "next day mail") than the actual cost of the records. At the time I was un-employed (this was prior to being hired at KISW) and not being able to sleep, depressed, etc…and their music became the soundtrack to picking my spirits up. His stories were interesting, and their music, for a lack of better words, was "rocking".

Many years ago, my wife and I were visiting my family in Brooklyn, NY, and I saw that they were playing 3 sold out shows in Brooklyn…luckily they released more tickets online and we scored a pair…that show was amazing, Craig Finn had the crowd in the palm of his hand (us included) as we all danced and sang along to our favorite songs!

I was nervous to see them as this time we wouldn't be aided by the ultimate concert enhancer: Alcohol, and also this time we wouldn't see them with their keyboardist, who left the band a few years ago. That being said…the minute they took the stage at the Neptune…all of these doubts instantly disappeared as they started off with "Positive Jam" from their debut CD, and then powered through a "greatest hits" type set… the highlight (too many to actually name) was when they played my 2 favorite songs back to back: "Stay Positive" & "Your Little Hoodrat Friend".

They also played "Massive Nights", and my wife observed that during that song, as well as a few others, it was the first time she has ever heard me sing along with a band…hell yeah I was singing…we all were!

Here are some pix I took while there….

STP's BLOG 07/18/14 "Seahawks Getting Slimed"

This is yet another reason why Marshawn Lynch rules! Last night at the Nickelodeon's Kids Choice Sports Awards, the Seahawks were definitely stealing the show! Russell Wilson won "Best Newcomer" (props to Russell for giving a shout out to Seattle Children's Hospital in his acceptance speech), our fans – the 12's – won the "Smells Like Team Spirit" award, Earl Thomas was in a fun segment where he got "slimed"…but the highlight was #24! If you missed it…it's OK…I did too…hell, I don't even know what channel Nickelodeon is on…the Hawks posted a clip on their Facebook page. Check out Beast Mode making it happen…and getting "slimed"!

Why did Earl get "slimed"? Well he lost in a competition between Larry Fitzgerald of the Cardinals…and was dropped in a "slime tank". Earl posted some pix and video on his Instagram:

All of the guys above that I mentioned (Earl, Marshawn, Larry, Russell) will be at Richard Sherman's Celebrity Softball game on Sunday. Get info on the game HERE. I will be there to watch (sadly I was not drafted this season, but I'm working on my swing next year)…some of the other Hawks that will be there include: Richard Sherman (duh), Michael Bennett, Percy Harvin, Pete Carroll, Kam Chancellor, Sidney Rice, and non-Hawks like: Kobe Bryant, Macklemore, Shawn Kemp, and Gary Payton.

Speaking of Richard Sherman…big thanks to Beverly "Mama" Sherman for joining us this morning. Beverly is going to be at Lucky Strike in Bellevue tonight from 7 pm to 9:30 pm -- hosting an evening of family fun. The first 100 guest will receive collectible Campbell Soup Bowls!

Richard and his mom are the new face of the "Momma's Boy" campaign that Campbell's Soup does. The commercial should be out soon…check out this fun interview with Richard & Beverly…

STP's BLOG 07/17/14 "ESPY's Love For The Hawks!"

I know David Letterman is close to calling it quits, but he needs to get this guy on the show for his "Stupid Human Tricks" segment! There's a YouTube video of a guy with a shaved head visiting a brewery in South Carolina, and he pours a beer with his HEAD. It's a cold can of beer that hasn't been opened, so he somehow gets the bottom suctioned to his forehead. Then he cracks it and pours it into a glass…it's either an illusion, or he got the beer to stick through a combination of condensation, and the sweat on his skull! Check it out:

Did you watch the ESPY's last night? The Seahawks won not 1 but 2 awards…this is the first time a Hawk has ever won an ESPY…the hits keep on coming for our team! Richard Sherman won Best Breakthrough Player, and the Seahawks won best team! It was awesome seeing all the fellas on stage…some of the outfits were rather interesting…gold shorts? Haha awesome!

The highlight of the night though had to be Stuart Scott's acceptance speech for the Jimmy V Award. Stuart received the award because of his battle with cancer…man it's a great speech…someone might start cutting onions as you watch this…just as a heads up!

STP's BLOG 07/15/14 "Riki Rachtman"

Today is a good day…we got to interview a guy that is one of the people that helped shape my musical taste. I would have to say that my brother was my number one influence, as it was because of him that I fell in love with KISS and Black Sabbath, but right after my brother…it was Riki Rachtman.

Now I don't personally know Riki, but it was because of MTV's Headbangers Ball that I was introduced to music that helped me through my younger years. Sure, Headbangers Ball played some crap from time to time, but when they played something really good…I could hear it in Riki's voice. When he geeked out about something, I became a fan of that band. Just off the top of my head, here is a list of bands that I was introduced to…thanks to Riki, and "The Ball":

Guns N Roses
Faith No More
Faster Pussycat
Sacred Reich
Circus Of Power

Also…Headbangers Ball introduced me to the "Seattle Sound"… I remember watching and seeing Mother Love Bone on there (and then in turn Pearl Jam), I remember the first time I saw "Loud Love" by Soundgarden, "We Die Young" by Alice In Chains.

I remember that moment Kurt Cobain & Krist Novoselic were guest and Kurt wore a gown because it was a "Ball" after all!

I always loved it when Riki would feature Seattle bands…it made me fall in love with a city that I hoped to live in. This was a fun one…when he hung with Soundgarden and went bowling with Chris Cornell…

Or the time he went to Action Park in NJ with Alice In Chains…

Now why did we have Riki on? Because he's doing something pretty cool…he decided to just get on his Harley and do a lap around the USA! He's doing it by himself, and having people tweet him places to go, etc. Well he's currently in Washington…he was in Tacoma and Seattle over the weekend, and is currently in the San Juan Islands area. On Saturday he will be at the Grays Harbor Raceway in Elma for the Harley Flat Truck Racing (Get info HERE). You can follow him with the hash tag: #RikisRide or follow him on Twitter or Instagram:

Tonight…if you are looking for a great show to check out…head to Culpeppers in Graham. Remember Saving Abel ( They are playing there tonight. Get tickets and more info HERE!

STP's BLOG 07/14/14 "Mariners & Seahawks Weekend"

Thanks to everyone that came out for our Mariners "Guys Night Out" on Friday night. Man Safeco Field was rocking and it was a blast hanging with everyone from the show, as well as Miles & Ted from the Mens Room, Ryan Castle, and Sgt. Hairclub! Check me and Hairclub out…

One of the highlights was getting to be on the big Diamond Vision (or Jumbo Tron…whatever it's called)…here we are mugging it up for the camera…

 photo diamondvision_zps96ab3d46.jpg

Speaking of being on camera…this was hilarious…as they were showing fans in the crowd, the camera person was behind us taking video of some people…look at the guy in the middle. He posed like this for a good 45 seconds…he truly had the "Eye Of The Tiger"…

On Saturday and Sunday I met up with former Hawk John Moffitt, as we are working on the Michael Bennett show. Part of the show will feature interviews with some cool local luminaries. We chatted with tattoo artist Damon Conklin, Hall Of Fame DJ Marco Collins, Johnathan Hillstrand from the Time Bandit (Deadliest Catch), and former Hawk Joey Hollenbeck. Here are some pix from the shoot…

Huge thanks to Sam and the entire crew from Mavericks Of Industry for being an awesome group of people to work with.

If you aren't familiar with what The Michael Bennett Show is about…it's in the early stages, but we hope to turn it into a fun variety show. Here is a leaked video from one of our shoots…

STP's BLOG 07/11/14 "Mariners TONIGHT!"

Tonight we hope to see you at the ballgame! BJ, Rev, Vicky, and I (I also hear that Thee Ted Smith will be attending, as well as our bud downstairs, GregR from The End) are heading to "The Safe" to watch the M's take on the A's…it's Guys Night Out…I'm so excited that I took a Mariners "Selfie":

 photo marinersselfie_zpsaff168a1.jpg

Get tickets at …we will be hanging at The Pen at around 6pm, and then we are sitting in the Terrace Club (section 213). Go M's!

A baseball player in South Korea slid into third base during a game yesterday . . . and it was one of the UGLIEST slides you'll ever see! He went in headfirst, but didn't get his arms out in front, so his FACE hit first, then dragged across the ground for about five feet until his head slammed into the bag. Someone decided to make it into a slow-motion video of it…set to banjo music, which makes it even more AWESOME!

STP's BLOG 07/11/14 "Battram Goalie Gear!"

Some of you know that my favorite thing to do in my free time is to play hockey…I play with a great group of dude in Tacoma, as the goalie for your Tacoma Donkeys.

 photo donk2_zps724ac605.jpg

When people find out I play goalie…I tend to get this picture emailed to me often…probably because I shared how when I was a kid I was in a break dance group called…don't laugh…Voltron (OK, feel free to laugh, we were dorks).

 photo battramvoltron_zpsbbaae678.jpg

This set up is one of the coolest set of gear I have ever seen. Sadly, the man rocking this set passed away this past year...but I am positive his gear will be shared on the net for years to come.

The guy that created the set is Scott Battram… his company is called Battram and he does fully customized gear…and he's all about making some creative & unique pads…check some of his work out:

 photo BATTRAM9_zps9fdd87f1.jpg

Of all of his custom sets…this one might be my favorite…for all of you that work at Nintendo, you'll get a kick out of these!
 photo battram2_zpsca749fc4.jpg

For you Grinch / Dr. Suess are gonna LOVE these ones!

 photo battram10_zpsc42b32a7.jpg

The best part (for us broke beer leaguers) is that his gear if totally affordable…In fact I am getting a set of his custom gear…granted the set I bought is not as crazy as the ones I shared above, but I am such a fan of the "retro" look on pads, and I always wanted to get a set that is reminiscent of the old Cooper style pads I wore back when I started playing between the pipes. Here's a sample of his retro style…

 photo battram8_zps1b260b7b.jpg

 photo battram4_zpsb2096120.jpg

This is a mock up of the set I am getting…I am so pumped to get these!

As soon as I get them, I will be sure to post pictures! Check out more of Battram's work on his Facebook Group Page…click HERE, or search "Battram Custom Goalie Equipment" in FB. Also he has a website,

STP's BLOG 07/09/14 "The Body Issue"

So ESPN has released their "Body Issue" – it's their issue where they get athletes to get naked or next to naked, and this year they are featuring a member of the Seahawks!
Marshawn Lynch is all about the action in it…check it out:

I think it would have been hilarious if they had members of the Offensive or Defensive line pose in this issue!

The highlight though…it has to be Hilary Knight from the US Women's Hockey team! Did you see her pic yet? Insert "Five Hole" joke here!

This is a fun thing to check out if you have Twitter… Enter your Twitter name and find out your tweet reading level here:

I put my Twitter handle in their (@STP999)…and this is what I got:

STP's BLOG 07/07/14 "Awesome 4th!"

I hope everyone had a great 4th of July…I know I did. We have an annual tradition of taking our pup Lulu on a walk o the 4th…I mean we have done it for 3 straight years, so that makes it a tradition right? The last 2 years we have gone to Alki, but this time we flipped the script and went to Greenlake! First we stopped in Seattle and got a Yumm Bowl from Café' Yumm…get the Smokey Bowl…it's so damn good. No Mono Nick…it's a different kind of "Smokey bowl"! Greenlake is such a cool spot…

While I was enjoying my 4th…this is what Hot Kyle was doing on the 4th…making awesome impressions of The Rev…

On Saturday we did something that I have never done ion the 17 plus years of living in the Pacific Northwest. I know what you are thinking…but no…I've been to the Vu' guys…we went to Mount Rainier!! After all these years of people saying I need to check it out, I finally did…and wow what an awesome spot! We hiked some of the trails, and just enjoyed the nice day outside…
