The good and the bad 4/18/12

TV can be a lot of things to me. A lot of times TV is nothing more than a time waster or something in the background. There are also shows you can watch that can teach you things. I know some people that hate TV and think it is the evil of all evil's. I do agree that watching too much of it is probably not great for you but then again everything in moderation is a solid way to live. I think too much of anything is a bad idea.

The reason I am writing this blog about the good and bad on TV are two different shows that are both on TV. To me one show ask questions and makes you thing about stuff and question things and that show is Frontline on PBS. Now on the other end of the spectrum is a show called basketball wives on VH1. First off the word wives in the title is BS because they are all ex's. Can you imagine your ex wife of girlfriend being on TV because she used to date you. The only thing more crazy than this show is that people watch it. Look I love some mindless TV and just zone out but this show is just awful. The 20 mins I spent watching it are time I will never get back but you have to really annoying to make me not even watch one whole show. I have not been this turned off from a show since the Kardashian's got a show. The worst part about this show is it is just some money and attention starved girls trying to cash in on some dude they used to date. Here is idea get good at something and people will give you that attention you want.

TV also to me is a window into how other people do things. I love sports and for me live sports on TV are what I watch the most. I like the idea that if I am up on a Saturday morning watching the Arsenal play a soccer game in England that there are people all over the world watching them just like I am. We are all different people from different parts off the world but through live sports on TV we are all one when we jump for joy as RVP scores again to win a big game. For college football it is great to see a Maryland football on TV because then I am there with my family and friends watching them lose again because well it's Maryland football and they lose a lot. I am getting way off topic here but I guess my point is TV can be both good and bad depending on what you want to watch. When you read this keep in mind I am a 31 year old man that lives alone so I can watch what I want when I want. I feel bad for dudes that have to sit through bad shows that are not there choice. I am going to do a radio show and keep trying to get famous so a ex of mine can be on a show one day.....

Baseball 4/13/12

Baseball season is here and I can't lie I am not the biggest baseball fan these days but still enjoy the sport. It's kind of funny I don't watch baseball as much as I used to since it was the sport I played the most as a kid. I know more about baseball than any other sport as well. I can tell you where just about every guy should be on any given play. I still do get excited about a nice sac fly or well place steal as well.

The reason today I am writing about baseball is because tonight I am going to the Mariners home opener. Going to a baseball game is different because there is a lot of time to sit and enjoy a soda or a beer. You can sit back watch a few innings and have a hot dog. I feel like the hot dog is the baseball standard. They serve them at all sporting event but it goes best with baseball. Another great thing about going to a baseball game is you get to keep the ball if you catch one. I seen the basketball go into the stands a few times but they don't let you keep it. It would be cool if you could keep the balls from other sports. I have a plan with the guys I sit with at the Sounders FC matches that if a ball comes into our section it is important for all of us to touch it before we give it back. Sorry I got a little off track there. I also come from a long line of Smiths and the Smith boys know some baseball. My Dad coached me, my uncle Tim coached against me and now his son my cousin Tom is coaching his son in t-ball. Hell I even coached when I lived in back east. Man all I want to go play baseball right now errrrr I mean go watch it and drink a beer.

The good life 4/12/12

The sun has been out this week and it was out last weekend and so was I. It always blows me away how when the sun does come out here in the Northwest it turns into sun worship. I did not understand it the first few years I was out here but I sure as hell get it now. As soon as the bright sunny sun shows up it is time to get out there and do some things and for a guy like me it means it is time to enjoy the good life.

The good life can be a lot of things to a lot of different people. For one the good life might be at a certain event or maybe out in the woods shooting some kind of animal. The good life could also just living in a great place with a great view. Let me tell you now what I consider the good life. Last weekend was a prime example to me of the good life. I am a single guy with a good job so clearly I get to do and live stuff that some people can't because they have more cost than I do. Friday night we had the 5th 53rd annual Alcohol of fame down in Tacoma and that was awesome. I got to meet a ton of cool people and have some drinks with them. I got up early on Saturday and watched some soccer and then I took my first hot tub of the day. Yeah to me the good life has a few components but rest assure that hot tubs is a big one. So after the first hot tub of the day and a quick dip in the pool at my place I got ready to go to buddy Matt's Birthday party. I know what your saying how long does it take me to get ready and the answer is not long but I had to make sausage dip as well. When living the good life sausage dip is important as well. The party was great with tons of food and drink and good company. Shout out to "TOP DOG". Later on in the night we had a bonfire and then the best way to end any night with a outdoor hot tub. The wind over your head and a couple buddies and some beers.

Man this is the longest blog in a while just to talk about the good life. The next morning I got up and had some homemade coffee cake and breakfast casserole that was on point. Then it was time to start amping up the good life again with a few lawn games. Started with a nice little kick about with a couple guys and a soccer ball that led to some other games involving balls and these things that were like plastic lacrosse stick. What is next after that you ask? Its now time for another outdoor hot tub and hanging. See to me the good life is simple. Good company, good food, cold drinks and hot tubs. OK the hot tub part is not simple but always great. How do you live the good life? As always get at me on twitter @TheeTedSmith

Seattle Rock Day 4/5/12

Hello Seattle!!!!!!!! So today on the station it was Seattle Rock Day. Now you might be asking yourself when did Seattle Rock Day start and the answer is last year we at KISW started it. Now the basic idea is a day with just Seattle rock bands all day long. I have to tell you growing up in the Washington DC area I was not familiar with rock music and especially the Seattle scene. Now that I have been in Seattle for 7 years I have come to really love some of the bands.

Now I would like to run down some songs and bands I like from Seattle. First off I knew of Nirvana and Soundgarden and Alice in Chains but I really only knew one of two big hits. Since I have been here Alice was the first band that got me with It ant like that. Once I figured out I like them I wore out a Dirt CD and Facelift. By the way I have seen AIC in concert now 5 times. The next band I went on a kick with was Mother Love Bone and I still wear out that CD. I even have a shirt from that band and saw all the original members minus Andrew Wood last year at the Showbox market. Side note I love the Showbox market. So now its been a couple years and I got to meet the guys from Soundgarden and I realized I did not too much of their music. Local legend Jeff Gilbert gave me a great CD with his favorite Soundgarden songs and that's when I fell in love with that band and Slaves and Bulldozers was the song that got me. So I guess the point of the blog today is that I know really really like a lot of the Seattle Rock scene. I can't leave Jimmy off this post and I have yet to even talk about Mad Season or Mud Honey or well this could go on for a while. Sir Mix A Lot is a Seattle guy and today I even found out the great Kenny Loggins is from Bellingham. God is there no end to musical talent in this state....
