Bonding 6/28/12
Boom!!!!!!! Say it out loud with some conviction and it will make you feels better I promise. So today is a great day because it is getting warmer and I am getting warmed up as well. I named this blog bonding because I have been doing some bonding with different people over the years here in Seattle and the results can be unreal. Clearly here at KISW we are a group that likes the same things and have fun when we all hang together but sometimes you need to step outside of your comfort zone and meet new people. There are many different ways to this but I say try a bunch of different things and figure out what you like. Now I will tell you about one such bonding experience.

Last weekend along with Ben I went on a bus ride with 600 friends from the Emerald City Supporters to go watch our Seattle Sounder FC take on the Portland Timbers. Now I realize that some of you reading this don't like soccer and have never been on a trip like this so let me take you into a great sports trip. We catch a city bus down to the meet up point and there is everyone waiting for us and we load in the buses to get down to Portland. Shout out to Woody for getting spots in the back. Now as we head down to Portland the fun starts. You have a couple drinks and everyone has brought some snacks for the road. This is the time you realize that you and all these people much not have a ton in common except today you do and that's to see your team win. I talked to one couple who got married the day before and now here they are in the group headed to Portland. The next highlight is the stop at the rest area, where 600 people pile out of the buses and you see your friends and people you have not seen since last year and hug and trade stories. When you get into Portland their fans are waiting for you and flip you off and you can give it right back. Now into the stadium for the match and while it did go of way you better believe the Sounders fans were into it. I will leave out the details on the ride home but I now call all those people friends

NBA 6/20/12
Last week I was talking about how as I watch more and more of the NBA playoffs and read things I just can't be a fan of the Oklahoma City Thunder but it is also odd cheering for Labron James. I was in a bar last in downtown Seattle and everyone was cheering for the Miami Heat. The guys next to us were just in town on vacation from Philly and asked us if this bar was a Miami sports bar and we said no but everyone in Seattle is cheering for them out of spite. The problem is I just don't want to see Clay Bennett holding up a NBA championship trophy. Sports is one of the few places that you can hold to that pain and not let it go when people don't give you crap. Clearly living your life holding grudges is not the best way to live but also I believe you should not forget things. I am all in forgiving and moving on but if you forget some of the treatment you got from these people then it will happen again. That's the things about sports is you get to be unreasonable and hold onto old feeling that don't really matter anymore. The Sonics and Thunder deal is so much more than just sports though to me. Its just yet another prime example of big companies just doing what they want and you have to take it. At no point did those guy in the NBA or Clay Bennett really want to stay in Seattle. The other thing that is just so madding is the way they lied and did not answer questions like the general public is just dumb. Thats what I have learned over the years and from how David Stern acts is that they think you dumb and are going to do what they want. My new question to you Seattle why get back in bed with these people. At some point maybe people in Seattle should not give a crap about the NBA and if they don't want a team in a great market with great fans them f**k em. That's the whole rub though isn't it, while everyone in Seattle hates what Stern and the NBA did they still want another team.

Funny People 6/15/12

Today on the show we had in comedian Brian Posehn and he was funny and like you would expect him to be. Its always interesting to me to meet people that do comedy for a living because I wonder what they are like as people and how their minds work. Working in radio I have been lucky enough to meet some big comedians and it still blows me away that some of the funniest guys are just quiet people. I think that maybe sometimes they are "on" some much on stage that when they get home they just want to chill out. I would think it would be hard if you make your living being funny to be funny all the time at home as well. I have also notice that for the most part the comedians are nice people. I am sure that some of them can be a D when they want to be but I have yet to have any real problems with those guys. Rock stars on the other hand can be very moody at times when you are talking to them. Of all the people I have been able to meet I think without a doubt I would hang with the funny people over the rock stars and athletes. I hope you get out and enjoy your weekend. I am going to watch some naked people on bikes tomorrow around noon and enjoy my weekend. Cheers and you can always catch me at night on my Twitter @TheeTedSmith

Untamed Americas 6/12/12

Last night I was watching this show on the National Geographic Channel called Untamed Americas. It was a great show showing all the different things that exists in the Americas. I say different things because the show looks at not just the animals but also the different landscapes and weather that goes on in the Americas. There are some crazy things in the Americas and just here in the states.

One of the episodes I was watching last night was  on the Amazon river. I don't know a lot about Jaguar's but let me tell you that you are scared of them. I hear you right now saying but Ted how do you know what I am scared of and I will tell you if you saw this animal in action you would be scared. They showed video of one of these cats coming out of the brush to attack a caiman. You would never had known he was there. It was like a very highly trained sniper hopping out on you and you had no idea he was there. Also in this episode they should some whales just chilling and eating krill down of the Baja Peninsula. Its crazy to just see a huge group of the largest mammal on earth all hanging together and just down the bay is the largest fish in the world the whale shark. Its a great series with some great footage so I say check it out.

Fans 6/7/12
Last night I was watching the western conference finals between the Oklahoma City Thunder and the San Antonio Spurs and saw the Thunder win. Now I know this is tough since OKC is the team that the stole the Sonics away from Seattle. Now I completely get why some Seattle people want nothing to do with OKC winning but its hard not to like the Thunder. I will say that watching Clay Bennett hold up the trophy did suck. I don't think though you can hate the people in OKC since they are just cheering for their team. In my mind it has nothing to do with the fans in either city. Seattle has some of the best fans I have ever been around. Starting with our fans here at KISW but the 12th man and the Sounders FC fans are awesome as well. Don't worry I did not forget about you Huskies and Cougs who are great also. Side note I am going to my first Wash St. game in September and am very fired up. Back to the point of this blog is that I get why Seattle people do not want OKC to win but I don't think saying their fans are worse than Seattle does anything. Both towns have great support and unfortunately for Sonics fan's your mayor and a certain coffee guy cared more about business and money than keeping the Sonics in town. Its not your fault as fans. Seattle fans always were there for the Sonics

Comedy 6/1/12

What a crazy week here in Seattle. Not a lot of good news this week with the sad events on Wednesday. Sometimes when things like this happen people wonder where they can turn to for some relief and I think the best medicine is laughter. Now clearly tonight is the Comedy Riot but I am not just writing this trying to get you to go to the show but to honest I really a couple laughs help out a lot.

Let me talk at you for a minute my man. When is the last time you have been somewhere that's a bad place to be in and someone cracks a joke and you smile. Its the same thing I think with tragedies, it will take away pain but it can help ease it. The other thing is that when someone makes you laugh it is a natural feeling that makes you feel great. Sometimes we look to odd things to make us happy but maybe we just need some good laughs in my mind. Hell the reason I have a job on the radio is because we can make people laugh when they are bad spots like traffic. I should maybe say we try to make people laugh. Anyhow tonight it is the night for BJ Shea's Comedy riot and I am very excited to see my man Mono Nick go out there and do well. He did seem a bit nervous about doing but like I told him who would not be nervous about going on stage in front of a couple thousand people. As you can tell I am ready to go and laugh because I could use a little TLC myself tonight and comedy is my TLC. Cheers
