Easter weekend is here well not totally as it is on Sunday and not today. My point being is that even though I am not very religious these days Easter is still a good time to get together with family and friends. Now my family all lives back east in the DC area but I have a lot of friends out here and one of them is STP from the morning show here at work. Steve and I are good friends and have been for years. He has met and even spent a Easter with my Mom when she was out one year and I was lucky enough to be in his wedding. Now this year things have changed and I am embarking on a trip to Spokane with Steve and his hockey team the Tacoma Donkey's. I can't even explain how fired up I am to part of this trip. The Donkey's have even asked me to stand in a coach behind the bench. Now I hear you asking yourself do you know anything about hockey Ted? No I really don't know a ton but I know about pregame speeches and that's what I am bringing to the table. The plan is to, well I don't think there is a plan other than many beers and a very impassioned speech by me. Maybe I throw down some Irish whiskey so I can work up a tear or two for effect. I should also watch some hockey speeches to get ready tonight. So this weekend while I am out with Steve and the Donkey's having fun and coaching make sure to hang out with some people you like as well. Like I said Easter is not like it used to be as kid for me but still a great excuse to get together with some people you care about and eat some good food. Enjoy the weekend and you know we will.
How much would you pay for a great experience? How far would you travel? How do you know it is going to be great? Last week I bought some tickets to a show that were way too expensive but I thought the hell with it I really want to that show. I was talking with Miles in the office and he made a good point that some times the experience is worth it. Last summer my buddy and I went to Las Vegas for a UFC. It was a title fight with Anderson Silva VS Chael Sonnen 2. It was a great night but it was super expensive and we were not even close to the cage. Now my point about Vegas is that we had a blast and while I would pay for it again I do not regret doing once. See the thing is that we had a blast and had so much fun that it is all worth it. Sometimes the experience is priceless or maybe I am just trying to feel better about the money I spent last week. I also go to some things that I have the most fun at that are cheap and involve no money what so ever. To sum it, it is what I often talk about in these blogs which is go out and have some fun and try new things. Also it might not be about going to a show or to a event it might be as simple as you don't want to miss that time your kid got that hat trick. Live on people
I have this new hat I bought a couple weeks ago down in Arizona and it is a all black Giants hat with the orange SF on it. I like this hat a lot, ok look I love the hat and think I look cool in it. I bought it because I was at the first spring training game for the giants and did not want to get a sun burn but now I just like the hat. The problem I am running into is that I am not really a Giants fan and people are calling me a bandwagon fan. In most sports I would never wear a hat of a team I don't really follow but I feel like in baseball terms it is ok because baseball hats are part of fashion almost now. My buddy Justin say's it is even worse because they just won the title and I look like the worst kind of bandwagon jumper. Maybe all these people are right and I am just using these reason's that I know are weak to justify wearing the hat. I did one stage announcement in it and some M's fans did give me some heat. The other thing is I am a bit of a baseball nomad since I used to be a Baltimore fan as a kid but then once I moved there from DC I was not a fan of the O's. The Washington National's showed up in DC the year I moved to Seattle so I have no real team at this point. Again maybe just another reason or excuse to wear this awesome hat. Now that I think about I bet no one in there right mind would over think wearing a hat this much. I had the hat on this morning and took it off, tonight I wear the hat
Last weekend, an elderly man was using a public bathroom at a lake in Georgia (instead of just using the lake?!?) and, for whatever reason, he chose to stand on top of it while using it. Then he fell IN. The toilet led to a pit in the ground and that pit was filled with human poop. He was eventually rescued and pulled from the poo- pit, but not before he'd marinated in other people's brown business for 70 minutes. Anyone remember former WWE wrestler Chris "The Masterpiece" Masters? Me neither, but last night he was called to his mother's house in Los Angeles after she was being held by a crazy neighbor who'd barricaded himself inside with her and set the house on fire. What did Chris do? Well sure, he called the cops, but before they got to the scene, he ripped a tree OUT OF THE GROUND and threw it through a window to pull his mother to safety. He saved her life. Speaking of saving lives, the folks at www.WillowHavenOutdoor.com have provided us with a list of 5 ways a condom could save your life... if you're lost in the wilderness. Maybe you already know, but if you're like me, you didn't. So, maybe you've been rescued from a giant pile of sh*t, maybe your child ripped a tree out of the ground to help you out or maybe your failure to get laid benefitted you by you having a spare condom after you wandered off into the woods. It could happen. Today's question: WHO OR WHAT SAVED YOUR ASS?
Fell off a 3- story roof (because he was drunk and trying to avoid being hit by a bottle rocket) but as luck would have it, he landed on plastic recycling cans
Head- on crash on HWY 2, flipped the car a few times and ended up resting on a jersey barrier... on an overpass
Was choking on a pepperoni grinder at home alone... gave himself a pseudo- Heimlich maneuver with a wooden chair
His new cat was acting all crazy... turns out the place below him was on fire... and his cat had a problem with the idea of burning to death. Good kitty.
As a small child in Alaska, someone tried to kidnap him, but the would- be- kidnapper was stopped by 2 sumo wrestlers. If I had a dollar for every time I've heard that story, I would have a dollar.
His long hair... a guy fired a pistol at his head. No bullets hit his head, but 3 of them cut a hole through his hair
Crashed a dirt bike and fell into a blackberry bush... which seemed kinda bad, until he realized that the black berry bush prevented him from falling over a cliff
A rock... was in Afghanistan and started running toward some buddies pinned down in a fire fight. Tripped over a rock and went face-down to the ground. When he looked up, bullets were flying directly over the place he'd been running
Total strangers saved his life... back in 19- and- 91, he lost his kidneys to diabetes (or as Wilford Brimmley would say- "dia- beetiss'). That same year, a family lost a loved one and he got that persons kidneys that not only saved his life, but kept him alive to this very day
About 20 years ago, he was a 'green' on a crab boat (The Wizard, incidentally) and got his leg caught in the rope of a crab pot. He almost went over the edge of the boat, but was saved by a dude... and then punched in the face by that same dude for not being careful
OK, I've been holding a pee for a long, long, long time and it's starting to get a little dicey in pants.
Until tomorrow, touch my stuff and STAY BEAUTIFUL!"
Today I have already had a big day in my world as I would call it. I got up this morning and I think my internal clock is caught back up after the time change. Now as well as my day is going I have found something that is not good and that is my socks. You see a few months ago I bought some black Nike socks that are a little taller than regular ankle socks. I loved these socks since I bought them and have been wearing them a lot so got another bundle of them just the other day. Now here is where the dilemma started as the new socks are not stretched out at all like these old socks are. The socks all look the same with being black with white Nike swooshes on them. When I grab two out of the dryer they look the same but then as I walk around I realize one is defiantly taller than the other. So now I sit here with uneven socks and it is a struggle but alas I will make it through the day with your faith and support. The sock game is crazy right now folks so I hope your up on yours
The NCAA basketball tournament starts with the full 64 team bracket tomorrow. March Madness as it is called is a great event and the NCAA does a great job of making it the event of spring sports wise. The other thing that goes on is people fill out their brackets. Yes everyone from that old lady down the hall in your apt building to the annoying guy at work who now thinks you and him have a good reason to talk now. It's crazy how many people fill out the brackets and will be watching at least some of the games. It's a great time of year to be a sports bar as well since a lot of people just seem to take some time off or at least long lunch breaks to watch games. The last few years I have not been as big of a fan watching all the games or even filling out my bracket. I thought for awhile this morning as too why I have not been as into it this year as I was in years past. It dawned on my that a big part of that is my college basketball team the Maryland Terrapins have not been good. They won a title in 2001 and it was awesome but then they started losing. Gary Williams has left the program, hell I was at the last NCAA tournament game they won in 2010 over in Spokane. So I guess maybe some of the Husky fans can feel me on this one but it's hard to as fired up when your team has not shot since they could not even make the tournament. No brackets for me this year but I hope to fired back up this time next year for a deep run into the NCAA's by Maryland. If your team is still going have fun and if you just like the tournament then have fun as well. With or with out a bracket I will still be watching.
A few friends of mine have a term for one when one of us is a little down and we call it being sad panda. Today I am said sad panda, see I started getting a cold this weekend and then went out all weekend having fun and now feel like crap. Yesterday was easy to write off because it was still the alcohol from the weekend but now I realize I am just sick. Now it's nothing serious just a little cold that has turned into a sinus thing but you have to remember I am a complete bitch about it. I am a whining sucka when I get sick which I think a lot of guys are. I really just want to eat a little food and go back to bed. Now all I am thinking is I could use some soup and a little TLC. Everyone is different when they get sick and usually I get one of these a year but man I was sick on New Years as well so now I am just whining. Do I go chicken soup or maybe a different flavor of soup. Should I go with some toast or maybe a roll with this soup, should I just eat a nice dinner and forget about the soup. Will someone bring me some soup? Will I be sad panda all week? I hate being sick and I hate the way I feel when sick, signed yours truly sad panda Ted
This Saturday a great sporting event comes to Seattle and that is your Sounders FC taking on the hated Portland Timbers. Now before I start let me tell you I like Portland as a town and always fun down there. I really deep down don't hate the Timbers Army person by person but on the other hand I do hate them as a group. The one thing that has blown me away on this soccer journey I started years ago is how much this game means to each fan base. I sit in the North End with my buddies but am a ECS member and love taking the road trips down to Portscum. The thing about going to Cascadia Cup match is it is different then almost any other sporting event I have been to. There is so much passion on the pitch and in the stands as well. A big part of that is that the Sounders fans and especially the Emerald City Supporters are the best supporters in the MLS. The Timbers Army will say they are but they are wrong. Whatever they do, we do bigger and better. They do have the Cascadia Cup right now this year but it will be back in its rightful owners arm's after this campaign. Now as much passion there is in this match up please be carful out there and don't even bother with Timbers fan if they are trying to start something with you. As always talk trash but in a fun way besides no one looks great picking on little brother.
I love me some sleep and who doesn't right? The thing about sleep that is always funny to me is that the bed is comfortable when you get in but damn is great when you have to get up. You know what I am talking about, when you wake up and have to go some where then your bed is something you never want to get out of. Why is this and why has nobody figured out how to get this feeling at night? I then think well it is probably mostly a mental thing and it just feels great because I have to get up. Sometimes on the weekend I will wake up and forget that it is a Saturday and just get stoked that it is a weekend. The thing is when you wake up from a good restful sleep you just feel great. I have been having allergies going crazy on me all week so I have not been having great sleep but last night was a winner. I even had a dream involving a hot chick and that's about all I remember but I woke up smiling and rested. Now I guess ideally I would get some great sleep and wake up with a girl but hey for now I will take the restful night and the dream. Don't forget its a huge weekend coming up and the hated Timbers are in town on Saturday to take on our loved Seattle Sounders FC. I will get into this more tomorrow but it's time to remind little brother how we do in Seattle and that this is where the Cascadia Cup belongs
So like most people I am not a fan of Monday's but on the same token, I would hate Tuesday if it was the first day of the week. This got me to start thinking about some different things and if I don't like them because they were first or last. I was thinking that maybe I am a Maryland Football fan event though they suck because it was the first football I saw. It makes me think maybe I still hate Duke to this day because it was the first team I was taught to dislike. Most people I think still have tough times getting over ex spouses because a lot of them were the first. Now unlike my sports passions some things I have changed even though I hated them to start with. Things like onions and other foods. This brings my back to Monday, people say it would be better without Monday but we would hate Tuesday. What about Friday as well, we all like Friday a lot but if he was not the start of the weekend would we be such fans of Friday? Thursday is a cool guy and often fun things are going on, on Thursday. I bet my man Sunday could use a little less pressure on him as well, people be all freaked out on Sunday nights since work is the next day. Either Monday is here to stay so get used to it and enjoy the Monday's you get off
This morning I got up and went sailing with a buddy who just moved to a house on Lake Union and bought a sail boat. It was a glorious morning full of bright sunshine and hopes. As we sat in the middle of the calm lake (not much wind) talking life and how happy we were to be out enjoying life when tragedy stuck. It was about time to head in since I had to be at work and boom the motor dies. We figure maybe just let the engine chill out for a minute since I thought maybe we were flooding it with too much gas. After a few tense moments we just said well what can we do. Lucky for us the current was taking us towards a dock and we had one oar so my buddy got to rowing. I did what I always do when I sail and that's steering the ship, I am a great driver since usually someone just tells me when to turn. Now at this point I was starting to sweat a little bit since I did not want to miss work, my buddy was sweating because he was the one rowing. We together got the boat over to the dock right by Joey's and I hopped off and my buddy had the tough task to sail that boat back to his house. No worries though everyone as my buddy finally made it home this afternoon and I got to work in time and we had a fun show. So now I am going to enjoy this beer and have a good night. Thought you guys would enjoy this crazy tale of the high sea's, of just how I got stuck out in Lake Union.
Man I was terrible at basketball last night, I am not really that good at all but last night was a nightmare. The thing is that usually when I can't hit a shot to save my life I just pass more but last night I could not even get passes right. I was throwing it out of bounds and just a turnover machine. Now your asking why do care about your game Ted? The answer is that I am going to make this into a life lesson for all you people out there. See that's thing about sports is when you are having a bad game and things are not going your way you can switch up your game plan. My question is why is it so hard to switch up things in our lives. I feel like I often talk to people who are running the same problems over and over but don't want to change. I mean if your jump shot is off dish the rock homie. If something in your life is going bad maybe work on a another area of life then. This can be with good stuff as well, if your out there taking names and kicking ass maybe drop a dime off to a buddy. Sports can be a lot like life in my opinion and just like in sports you have options but can you have the guts to use them. Every one remembers that Jordan hit a lot of game winners but he also would pass sometimes when it right too, just ask Steve Kerr
