Man I am fired up for this weekend. For starters it is a great sunny day out there today and that already has me in a good mood and have dinner plans with a buddy. The other reason I am so excited is tomorrow I am the MC at Cagesport MMA at The Emerald Queen Casino. The event is awesome and I get to walk down the ramp like one of the fighters with not one but two ring girls on my arm. Now after the action get's started I get to sit right up on the apron, which is what they call the seats on the cage. That's the other great thing is I get to go into a cage with a mic and talk to people. Other than fighters who really get's in a cage? Now I hope to see some of you all down there for the fights but if your not don't forget that Saturday is also UFC 159 which features Jon Jones VS Chael Sonnen. I like Sonnen as a entertainer and fighter but I think he is way over matched in this one. I think Jones will go in there and do his job. I am predicting a TKO in the forth round of this fight in favor of Jones. The other fight I am looking forward to on this card in the Roy Nelson fight. I cheer for big country for one reason alone and that's he look likes a average dude with his belly hanging out. Win one for the fat boys Roy.
So lately a lot of my friends have been having babies and getting married. I guess maybe I should say most of friends are already married and having kids but some of my buds that I thought would be single for a while longer are even getting married or engaged. My one friend even had a kid and for some reason it is messing with my mind a little bit. I guess part of me always kind of looked up to parents and though people that had kind were some how better people and higher moral ground than I. What I have come to realize is that kids are just a natural part of getting older and having a life. Now sitting here at 32 and single with no kids it is hard sometimes to understand that life. Sometimes people tell me stuff and yes I am excited but it is hard to be as excited as they are because I don't have any. I don't understand that excitement or the power of it, I used to feel bad about that but not anymore. I realize that having a kid is much more important than a lot of stuff going on in my life but on the same token I think that people with kids hang out with other people with kids because they get it. I guess my point is that people are going to hang out with and talk with people that have their same interest. I texted with a buddy last night and he said he baby daughter was meeting her grandma for the first time and all I got out was, Awesome. Not sure that was the right response but like I said I am not sure what to say. This whole blog is getting awkward now, maybe I should go
So tonight I am going to see Prince preform tonight at the Showbox in the market. Now I know what your thinking and yes I paid way to much for the ticket. With that said I am very excited to see the man and hear him live in such a great room. The funny thing is I am not exactly a huge Prince fan but everyone has told me that seeing is the best live show you will see. Now I would counter and say some Tool shows I have seen blew my mind. I worry though that seeing Prince in such a small venue might ruin all other shows but I don't mind. It is also Friday and people are already in a good mood then you throw Prince in the mix and you got yourself a nice weekend shaping up. The other thing going on this weekend will be the fact it is the unofficial weed holiday with it being 4/20. Someone asked me today if it is a big deal and why smokers care? I think of it kind of like St.Patricks day for what drinkers. You drink whenever but when it is St.Patricks day it just feels different and like you are celebrating something. All in all should be a good weekend and some free UFC fights on TV Saturday as well.
What makes you nervous? Seriously what is it that gets you off your normal game, I ask this because I think nerves are common thing that happen to a lot of people but everyone thinks it is just them. It like when you watch a football player in a big game on the field you think man how does he do that I would be nervous. Now take that same football player and put in your job and tell him to go to work and I bet he would be nervous as well. When I watch UFC one of my favorite fighters is Georges St.Pierre and one thing I really like about him is that fact he talks about his nerves before a fight. It is not cool to talk about that kind of stuff I don't think, but some people are now and it happens to everyone. For me I do a lot of public speaking which is a fear of most but I like it and like the nerves I get before I do them. One thing that comes easy for some but still get's me is girls man. I can be the coolest guy all day long with the fellas but put a couple hot single girls in the mix and your boy falls apart. I have gotten better over the years but I still get nervous. I am working on a project now that has me a little on edge but it something new and I think that's a normal reaction. One thing I did learn years ago when training for the Throwdown in T-Town was if you practice and are ready for the event you won't be a nervous. I was scared, very scared a week before that fight but by fight night I was pumped and ready to go. My point today is nerves are common but how you react to them in uncommon
Today as I woke up I thought about the world of TV and how much different real world is from TV. Mainly I was thinking about cop shows. Every time a cop on TV gets in trouble where he or she might be fired they hear the line I need the badge and the gun. I watched a show last night were the cop did not even say goodbye he just left the gun and the badge. What about all those high speed chases, when is the last time you saw a high speed chase through downtown? A what about that hooker with the heart of gold, every hooker I see downtown are junkies and really down on their luck. I did a ride along years ago with a cop and the only thing that stuck with me was how much paper work cop's have to do. Chef's are another one that look great on the tube but every chef I have ever met work their ass off and generally have no free time. TV is supposed to be a fantasy and I get that but I was just wondering how different it is in the real world. Let's not forget about dog's either as they are smart as hell on TV and have great comedic timing, me buddies dog have horrible timing and he is really not funny at all. If I could get a TV dog that was funny and snagged chicks, I would have one by now man. Trust me on that
This Sunday is the BJ Shea Comedy Riot and Doug Benson is the headliner. Live comedy is awesome and I do not go see it enough. We had Christopher Titus in studio yesterday and he was funny as hell also. The thing I like about live comedy shows is that you never know what could happen and the stand up stage is one place where people are still honest. Most job's in the entertainment business have to be carful of dollars and advertisers but when you see a guy on the stage he is paid by the club and is going to give you exactly what he thinks. That freedom also allows the stand up comic to also talk about subjects that some would from upon but the stand up can tackle them with humor and people generally will get the idea. Sometimes we as people are so worked up and ready to argue about any point that someone makes and we are not willing to hear another view but when it involves comedy we will listen. The stand up comic is also in a very different place than most in the world because the comic is up there by themselves and if it goes bad there is no where to hide. Stand up comedy is one of the last places were you know one thing for sure and that is you will get the truth from that comic. Laughing is also a great way to relive stress and just relax. Think about it when is the last time you laughed out loud and not just said LOL. I hope you got some tickets for the show on Sunday and if you see me say hello because you know I will be excited
Winning makes things ok, seriously when your winning it does. I say this today because I watched a interview with Tiger Woods this morning and to his credit he admitted that. Its not just that he is winning again but it the whole mental change that has gone on with him as well. He was smiling and appeared to not have a care in the world and winning makes things better. I read another article today about Rick Pitino who coaches at Louisville and they just won a national championship in basketball. Rick got in trouble a few years ago when he got caught having sex with a woman on the floor of a Italian restaurant. I laughed a little today when the writer said it was a one night stand because I know I got a speeding ticket the first time I sped. Also Rick is one of those guys I have trouble with because he is in church all the time and make his teams go but get's caught doing this crap. Today though he is once again on top of the college basketball world thus it's ok. Do not get me wrong everyone makes mistakes but I like people who are upfront about there short cummings. This is back to my bigger point though is that everyone loves a winner, now some things will get masked by the winning and come out over time but if your on top and winning it seems like everything is ok. Tiger will win more majors and to his credit I hope he is happy now and maybe marriage is just not for him which is fine. It's not just Tiger either people are more than happy to love him again as long as he is winning. I think people get his and especially these two so for their sake let the winning continue boys.
Today is the home opener for the Seattle Mariners and people are going to be fired up. Opening day or the home opener is always a fun day in every town. I bet some people are already down there or getting close to Safeco. I plan on running down there as soon as I can get out of work here. The thing about the first home game is everyone is excited and full of high expectations because the season is just starting. I will say though in Seattle I have noticed as well that the home opener is just a great reason to party. I have to the first home game the last couple of years and it never fails that the crowd will be excited and looking good. Last year I thought some guy was going to take a punch at me when I got on him about cutting in line, he was a few deep I was just starting so I let it go. The party in the beer garden out in center field is always jumping and one of the crazier beer gardens I have been in. I also feel like the home opener is a tradition that is passed down from family members to other family members and help's bring people together. I talked to a woman today who was hurting because she could not be home in the city she grew up in to go to game with her Dad, opening day or the home opener is a fun tradition and hope everyone has fun tonight. Stay safe out there and for tonight Go M's
A big story that I have been watching a lot on is the basketball coach at Rutgers. For those of you who have not seen it the coach was caught on film punching, kicking and shoving players around the court. He was also filmed screaming homophobic slurs at the players like the work Fa**ot. My biggest issue with this whole mess is that the President of the university seems to be taking no responsibility for any of it. The coach got fired and the athletic director got fired but I watched the President just talk BS and try to pass the buck. I get that college basketball is about making money now but just say that. It's a joke that the guy is talking about leadership while making excuses. I also firmly believe there is no place for violence in coaching. At that point to me you should admit that you are out of ideas and can't motivate your team. even yelling at places has it's place and for some coaches it works but the fact this all went on and was filmed and he kept his job is a joke. The President of Rutgers needs to be gone as well. He is the boss and watches over everything so to say he did not know is just a lie or he did not do his job. As big as college basketball players are they are still in college and the university is the ones that are supposed to watch out for them and instead they are just passing the buck. Shame
The big news story that I heard a lot about on twitter yesterday was the Sacramento Kings maybe moving up to Seattle and relocating. Now I have heard both sides of the argument and I get why people in Sacramento want to keep their team but the team is going to move to Seattle and I have one reason I believe this, Money. See the thing is I think the reason the NBA first left Seattle was a money thing. I also firmly believe that money talks and Chris Hansen has shown that he does not mind spending it. Seattle is a great town and people will support a new team when they come to town. Look at the success that Sounders FC have had with attendance and fan support. I would also say when the team does make it here they will have to be good or people will sour quick which is another thing that helped the Sounders FC greatly was they have been in the playoff's every year they have been in the league. I know there are a ton of decisions that have to be made and the league has to think long and hard about the relocation process but it really does seem like a no brainier to me. Great fans and all the money, Mr. Stern just go ahead a sign off on this please
What a nice day today outside, the sun is shining and its warmer out for sure. So on a sunny day like today there are a ton of things to do and sometimes I wonder if people are out there doing fun stuff. I got to thinking if I was off today what would I do. I have a buddy that lives on Lake Union so maybe I would just go to his house and chill out. Maybe it would be a fun day to go on a hike. If I was going on this hike where would I go and who would go with me, well the sun would be my friend on this fun adventure. Maybe I would go on a long bike ride but then again I do not own a bike. Can you rent bikes for the day? I could walk down to the water and sit on some rocks because when down at the water where else are you going to sit besides some rocks. It also makes it feel more like you are out there in the wild when you sit on some rocks. I like discovery park a lot up in Magnolia and they have some great rocks man. You can sit on rocks and skip rocks on the same beach. Deception pass is a park I like a lot as well which has some rocks. If you can't tell by this post my mind is clearly daydreaming a bit and I really want to go to a beach and sit on some rocks and maybe a few pop's. So like me I am sure you are at work today so on the way roll those windows down and soak it up everyone because it will be raining again soon.
So there are many different cultures you can come in counter with and a lot of them are country by country. I have found that a lot of different cultures are also sport by sport. As I left you in my last blog last week I was headed out on a trip with STP from the morning show and his Hockey team The Donkey's on a trip to Spokane. Hockey culture is a lot of fun and I think that people could get into it and I like the no nonsense approach of the guys who play the sport. I grew up a huge baseball person and fully understand that sport and of course Football. The last couple of years I have come to learn and love the supporter culture of soccer and have fully embraced that along the way. Two be honest the hockey guys had more in common with some of my soccer buddies then I expected. The one thing that I have learned through all these different types of activities and adventures is that a lot of these cultures are just about belonging to them. It's got to be some the same way I would think with the MC's out there in the world and those guy's love for motorcycles. It also seems to me that people find that sport or club they are looking for and think that there's is the best. I don't mean that in a bad way, but more in the way of people have so much fun in the way they do things that they want others to join in. It was a great weekend and I am happy I got to see and understand hockey culture a little better. Don Cherry is still my favorite part of Hockey culture by the way
