So it does not take a super smart person to realize that I am a big sports fan, but sometimes I ask myself is it too much. You look at all the different types of leagues and TV shows I start to wonder is it too much. I like a few sports that I watch almost religiously which are college football and soccer. Now clearly the number sport in the USA is the NFL and I get why all the coverage is on every network about the NFL so lets just take that out of it. I think my point is more to now you have MMA making a big impact and you also have all the extreme sports as well. I like a lot of the sports I just don't know when I have time to watch them. Hell I am lost these days even with baseball which I grew up playing and loving. I also should mention woman's teams and things, my buddy coaches as an assistant to the Reign which is the professional woman's team in Seattle. I went to a match and had fun but with all these other sports I wonder does the league really have a chance. I don't even watch NASCAR but you can't talk about popular sports and not talk about NASCAR, or this weekend you have the drag races. The other good news is that Fox is making another sports network to compete with ESPN who just sucks lately. I like watching live sports so all the extra sports are fun but at some point all this different leagues can't all be making money and some will end up folding and be gone.
Today on the show we are going to have UFC President Dana White and I am stoked as a UFC fan. Dana is a guy that always seems to speak his mind and exactly what is on it which I respect. The UFC has grown so much in the last ten years it is unreal and Dana has been a huge part of that. I have been to four UFC events and they are always fun and great people watching. I went to one last year in Las Vegas and if you ever get the chance to go to Vegas for fight night, do it. The energy in the room is so much fun. That is one thing that always awesome about live fights is the room is filled with fight energy and usually hot chicks. Now back to Mr. White who we have on today, I wonder sometimes what that guy does for fun. I know he says he loves to watch fights but it is also his job so I was thinking what does he do for fun? Most people watch UFC to take a escape from their lives but that is not a escape for him since it is work. Also I wonder when does the guy sleep since it appears that he is always working and promoting stuff? Dana White is a cool character on TV and I hope he is cool on the phone as well.
It has been a awesome summer so far here in Seattle and the Northwest in general. I got to thinking about how some foods just seem more summer then others. Miles has been on a huge kick about corn lately and how he loves corn and thinks this is the best year ever for Corn. I just think when it gets a little warming you tend to eat different things and not others. More people I bet eat salads that generally don't since this weather says hey lets have something light. I love chicken and waffles but watching people eat that in the sun at a bar made me a little sick. Pizza is another one I love but if my place is hot I tend not to go pizza. Grilling, now grilling can be done and should be done all year around but man in the summertime it just feels right. Burgers also great summertime food, I bet maybe you have even had a smoothie that you don't usually have. When is the last time you sat around in December and said I wonder if this party will have cole slaw? You haven't because it's a summer food. So enjoy the weather and the food. We will be back to fall food soon enough
This weekend I had some fun with my buddies in different spots in the city and noticed some different types of people. Number one I was on a deck at a bar Friday evening and yes it was a little chilly on the deck as the sun was going down but it is Seattle and you should be ready for weather like that. Its a bit ironic now that I am talking about how it was cool as today it will be warm out there. Anyhow this bar offered blankets to people sitting on the deck which is fine for the girls with you but a group of guys sitting in blankets just looked bad. I get that you may be cold but man grab a jacket or something, hell maybe just go inside if its too cold for you outside. I bring this up because the group that was using the blankets were also the guys that though they were so cool and shot my buddy and I dirty looks for wearing jeans and hoodies. Those hoodies sure came in handy when that sun went down though. I get that everyone has there own idea about it is to be cool and how you have to act to give that off. I sometimes just think that being nice to people and respectful is also a big part of being cool not just the way you dress or act. If you have to act a certain way for people to like you then maybe your not cool or comfortable at all. I like people to have fun and hang out together and maybe since I never really fit the cool guy look I have this view on it. With all that said the deck was awesome and we had a blast chatting it up and enjoying the great Seattle weather
Today I come to you friends with a problem that I think many a person goes through and that is not recognizing people when they are in a different spot then you know them from. I will give you a example that I ran into my buddies girlfriend and she said hello and I completely blanked on her because I am used to seeing them together. I have also ran into this problem with people I work with when I see them out in personal life. I think it happens to a lot of different people also at different times. I had a buddy that was a personal trainer and when we would go to bars sometimes we would run into his clients and it took them a minute to realize the guy in the bar was also their personal trainer. I would say it happens to me most in my building since I am usually not in a hat or shades if I am wearing them I have to take them off so my neighbors will know it is me. I feel like maybe I should have ended that last sentence in they will know it is I. Anyhow its weird when you see people out of place but then again maybe I just suck with names
There has been a lot of comics getting TV shows and I am all for that but some comics are just better on stage as opposed to their show. Last night I watched Anthony Jeselnik on his show and I love his stand up but not the biggest fan of his show. Amy Schumer was on the panel last night and she is another one I like very much on stage but not her show so much. Kevin Hart is probably my favorite stand up right now along with Louie CK but I have never watched Kevin's show so I cant really speak on it. Louie CK's show Louie is great but Louie is just on fire right now and to me is genius with everything he does. I should also say that we met Louie years ago when he was not a household name and it took him a while to get to the top. I am not really sure why some of the stand up's have great shows and other don't. I always have been a fan of Daniel Tosh and his TV show is great as well. The other good one is a comic named Dion Cole and his show is awesome right now over on TBS. I am not sure what the secret is for a good stand up and making a good show but to me it is very hit or miss.
So last weekend Anderson Silva finally lost again in the 185 pound weight class. It was shocking because he has been winning for so long and winning with such ease that it is hard to believe that he lost. To me the bigger issue here is that he dropped his hands yet again and this time paid for it. I think this is a good lesson for anyone in any walk of life. If you get over confident or too cocky someone is going to take you down. Anderson has been great but somewhere along the way he lost his way and just started acting like it was too easy for him. I know everyone fights different but the dropping of hands is just a no-no in any combat sport. The first thing anyone will tell you when you walk into a gym is keep your hands up, now with that knowledge how can you think he was being anything but cocky. I get how it happens and you can get over confident in your world as well, now unlike Anderson no one is going to knock you out but on the same token your loss could be much worse. All I am trying to say here is that sometimes you have to ask yourself am I doing the right things and am I still working hard or do I think that now I can just coast? They is always someone out there right around the corner that wants your spot as well and is still working hard for it
Wow this weather has been unreal for us in Seattle and the great Pacific Northwest. Last Saturday we had the first ever RedFest and it was unreal, sun and hot weather for hours. Sunday was just as nice and before we knew people in Seattle were bitching about the heat. The weather was usually hot for us and that's understood but it is still hard to bitch to much since we never get enough sun out here. Sleeping I agree is a little rough but man it is just so nice to be walking around is shorts and t-shirts and seeing all the girls with the summer clothes. I have fallen in love at least three times a day in the last week. The other fun thing with summer weather is the 4th of July. Some will say that New Years is the biggest party day of the year but I really do think it is 4th of July. The 4th is always fun and usually spent with people you like. You know what else I like is beer and grills and the 4th is a holiday all about drinking some cold beers and grilling some food. Now I have been known for some fancy meats and such on the grill but on the 4th it is burgers and dogs all day son
