Valentine's Day Brutality
First off, I just have to say that Seattle has the best metal scene in the world! Booking a metal show on Valentine's Day, a holiday that is frankly quite un-metal, can be kind of a crap shoot, so it was amazing to see so many people come out to support worldwide metal. After cruising back from work via the wonderful people at Seattle Metro, I showed up just in time to catch Vancouver, BC's Judas-Priest-like powerhouse 3 Inches Of Blood open their set. Within the next day or so, I will be posting a video I shot during their set.
It's a bummer that Holy Grail had to cancel, but when you're out there on the road and things look icy, sometimes it's better to just take the night off, as we have lost too many amazing musicians, friends and heroes to accidents that could have been prevented this way. Sucks as the fan, but put yourself in their shoes, yknow?
I think it's pretty safe to say that Switzerland's folk-metal force known as Eluveitie blew everyone away last night. It's nice to see a band continue to keep it fast and brutal while incorporating interesting instruments like the hurdy gurdy and mandolin into the mix.
There's no way I'd rather spend the most un-metal of holidays.
