2017 was the year of Swerve.

At the beginning of the year, Shane Strickland had a fair amount of buzz surrounding him – he had built a solid name for himself on independent shows around the U.S. and was featured as the recurring character “Killshot” in Lucha Underground.

But within the past 12 months, this Tacoma native -“The King Of Swerve” - leveled up to the point of being a top name in the world of independent wrestling. Local upstart wrestling company DEFY consistently booked him in headlining matches against major stars such as John Morrison, Cody Rhodes, Lio Rush and Davey Richards.

It was in these DEFY main events that I started to truly appreciate the incredible talent of Strickland. Not only is he a high-flying risk-taker, but he can brawl with the best of them and isn’t afraid to get hardcore. Hell, he even competed in one of the gnarliest death matches in the world, The CZW Cage of Death, last month.

At one point in the year, Strickland held three prestigious indie titles – the CZW, DEFY and Wrestle Circus belts - and defended them regularly.
I have no doubt that Strickland is on the cusp of worldwide mainstream recognition. WWE? NXT? New Japan Pro Wrestling? Honestly, the sky is the limit for Swerve.  For now I’m just grateful to be seeing him kill it on a more intimate local level.

Who’s house? SWERVE’S HOUSE!
