Jabroni Journal: Match Of The Week - Eddie Guerrero vs. CM Punk vs. Rey Mysterio

IWA Mid-South (3/01/2002)

September 29, 2016

Long before he was burnt out by the hectic world of WWE, before he co-wrote any Marvel comic books and before he stepped foot inside the UFC octagon, CM Punk made his name as an independent wrestler, pushing his body to the limit in bingo halls and VFW halls. Some weeks he would wrestle in front of a 1,000 screaming fans, sometimes it was 50 to 100. It's a far cry from the 30,000 diehard WWE fans that he would later come to expect each week on Raw, but there's something so exciting, so intimate about seeing an awesome wrestling show in such a small setting. In 2002, Punk was garnering quite a bit of attention around the indie scene. During this period, the late great Eddie Guerrero had been let go by WWE for wellness policy violations and Rey Mysterio Jr. had yet to start wrestling for them. So it was a perfect storm of events that led to a now classic three-way-match on March 1st 2002 for Ian Rotten's IWA Mid South Wrestling company. Watch these three legends wrestle their asses off in front of a hundred or so fans. Insanity.
