Mastodon: Band or Social Network?

It seems like new social media platforms are popping up every day, and the latest comes from Mastodon. No, we’re not talking about the band. We’re talking about the new Twitter alternative that shares the same name.

Obviously, this is causing some serious confusion between social network vs. band. How will we ever tell the two apart? It looks like from now on, all we’ll have to rely on are context clues. Or there’s always these helpful, hilarious tweets from Mastodon the band.  

According to its website, Mastodon is a “free, open-source social network” that’s got more robust privacy settings, allows 500 characters per post (as opposed to Twitter’s 140), and its tweets are called ... wait for it ... “toots.”
