How long have I been seeing Exodus live in Seattle? My first Exodus show was way back when I was 18 on 9.3.85 at the Mountaineers Building. That was a classic show because Megadeth opened the show with Exodus following and headlining was (and still is) my favorite band outta Canada ever in the mighty Exciter. I actually found the original poster still in my possession.
So 30+ years later here I am covering a Exodus show with camera in hand. With no barrier pit I knew I was in for for some insanity and punishment to get some decent photos. Strapped my camera to my wrist put on the 16mm at stayed up front in the war zone. Just like the 1985 Exodus show went for the jugular and opened with their classic "Bonded By Blood". The place erupted.
Blasting through a setlist that left no rest for anyone headbanging, moshing, stage diving etc. Bonded by Blood / Blood In, Blood Out / Iconoclasm / And Then There Were None / Fabulous Disaster / Body Harvest / Metal Command / A Lesson in Violence / Blacklist / War Is My Shepherd / The Toxic Waltz / Strike of the Beast.
It was great seeing Gary Holt off his Slayer tour duties and back playing with Exodus. His energy and Angus Young-like headbanging thrashing along with the razor blade throat growls of Steve "Zetro" Souza  onstage is magic! I know we have the Big 4 stated (Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, Anthrax) but if there was a #5 Exodus would take the spot. One cool thing ending the show on "Strike of the Beast" was guitarist Lee Altus pulling up a newer generation fan and had and showed her how to jam the song.
Did you know back in the formation of Exodus in 1979 Kirk Hammett (Metallica) was their original guitarist till 1983?
Opening the show was the legendary Municipal Waste. The thrash punk crossover band from Richmond, Virginia have been cranking out albums and insanely participated live shows for 17 years. The energy of vocalist Tony Foresta and guitarist Ryan Waste onstage with the backbeat of Dave Witte, bassist Philip "Landphil" Hall and new comer (2015) guitarist Nick "Nikropolis" Poulos put out one of the most "people loosing their minds" sets I've ever seen!
Favorite  tunes in their set for me included "You're Cut Off", "Beer Pressure", "Headbanger Face Rip" and "Terror Shark". Musically a crossover of Suicidal Tendencies meets Stormtroopers of Death, Municipal Waste plug in a go full speed ahead. Their new album "Slime & Punishment" is now out in stores!
This tour is sponsored by the Adult Swim channel in hopes to promote its 3rd season of Mr. Pickles starting February 25th. I don't watch TV so according to its Wiki page "Mr. Pickles is an American adult animated television series created by Will Carsola and Dave Stewart for Adult Swim. The series revolves around the Goodman family, especially their 6-year-old son named Tommy and the family's border collie, the demonic Mr. Pickles." Sounds crazy like this whole show was!
