Migs Blog: Awesome RHCP Show!
Friday night the Red Hot Chili Peppers played a sold out show at the Key Arena, and I am so glad I was able to check this show out. They are touring in support of their new record, "The Getaway", which I highly recommend checking out...it's an awesome album!
The Chili Peppers had one of the most insane light shows I have ever seen. Above them were hundreds of candle-looking lights that all moved separately and changed colors…it was trippy and awesome!
Plus, thanks to their guitarist Josh Klinghoffer, they now play songs off of their “One Hot Minute” record that they did with Dave Navarro as the guitarist (long story short – when John Frusciante re-joined the band, he didn’t want to play any songs off that record as he didn’t have a connection to them).
Plus, before the show…Ted Smith and I got to interview the Chili Peppers drummer, Chad Smith.
It was very cool getting to interview Chad backstage in their rehearsal room…they have some instruments set up in a room so they can jam before they take the stage!
Why are we holding those microphones? Well…the interview started with Chad marveling at the 70’s era microphones that we were using. Be sure to check out this week’s MegaCast (out Wednesday) to hear the full interview!
Also…before the Chili Peppers played, their former drummer Jack Irons opened the show. Jack was the man that introduced Eddie Vedder to the guys in Pearl Jam…hell, he was in Pearl Jam during the “No Code” record. So it was pretty awesome to see Eddie jump on stage with Jack and do a Pink Floyd cover!
