Today is a big day for us Pearl Jam fans as the band is getting inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame.

Pearl Jam is one of my all time favorite bands, like for many…their music has helped me throughout most of my life.

I can’t wait to see what they do at the induction… I know David Letterman will be inducting them, which I think is awesome, and even more awesome… rumor has it original drummer, Dave Krusen, will perform with them at the induction!

I thought it would be fun to go through all of their studio records and pick a favorite song from each to get me ready for tonight’s induction…

Ten

This is a tough one, because every song is incredible.  I decided to come out of the gate with an audible… my choice is “Porch”…the minute Eddie says, “What the EFF is this world… Running to”, I was hooked!  I could share with you the studio version, but I wanted to share the version from MTV’s Unplugged instead…as it was the best song that they performed on the greatest Unplugged that MTV ever did.

Vs.

Depending on the day…this is my favorite Pearl Jam record…and today is one of those days.  This album is raw…powerful…and the flow of the record is perfection. As I type this I have already gone back and forth on which song to pick.  Man I love songs like “Animal”, “Rats”, “Glorified G”, “Go”, “Elderly Woman…”…like I said, I LOVE every song on this record.  I decided to go with “W.M.A.” – the music has a tribal haunting feel to is, and the lyrics are just as powerful now, as they were when I first heard it.

Vitalogy

Here is a shocker…another great record from the band, and another record where I am struggling to pick my favorite.  I initially thought of Immortality as my fave…and it’s a close second.  My favorite song from this record is “Not For You”.  Once again I am opting to give you a live performance, as this brings me back to when I first saw them do the song on Saturday Night Live.  The song is already powerful, but they performed just a few days after Kurt’s passing…and you can feel the sadness in their performance.

No Code

Do I really need to type, “Another great PJ record” anymore for this blog?  Just accept that I love every record they have released.  What I love to this album is that Jack Irons plays drums on this one.  He adds such a cool raw-ness to the recording.  This record has so many songs, but none come close to my favorite.  I have said this before, and I will say it forever… the song “Present Tense” not only is my all time favorite song, this song has saved my life and has helped keep my head on straight as I battled sadness, depressing, insecurities over the years! Seriously, put on some headphones…turn off the lights…and chill while paying attention to this song!

Yield

I was leaning towards “Given To Fly”, solely for the opening guitar playing…but I gotta go with the song that pumps me up every time I listen to it, it’s a perfect song to kick off a record…and that song is “Brain Of J”!

Binaural

The song I have decided to go with on this record is funny.  When I first heard this record I loved it (duh), but there was one song that I wasn’t a fan of at first…and then over time…I started really obsessing over it and it’s now one of my favorites.  It’s funny how sometimes it takes a minute (or a few years) to fully get a song…and “Nothing As It Seems” is that song for me.

Riot Act

Riot Act is an underrated PJ record…a lot of people seem to dismiss it, but there are so many great emotional moments.  The stand out track is “Love Boat Captain”…musically it’s haunting…and lyrically, man…they are touching on some heavy stuff.  Stuff that I think all of us can apply to things going on in our own world, with some powerful words to live by (especially the nod to the Beatles with the line “all you need is love.”  The song makes reference to the 2000 Roskilde tragedy ...whenever I hear Eddie sing, "Lost nine friends we'll never know... two years ago today", I still get goose bumps.

Pearl Jam (AKA The Avocado Record)

This record selfishly brings me backj to the time that we got to interview Eddie Vedder when it came out.  It’s not often that you get to chat with Eddie…I’ve had two opportunities in my life to be a part of an interview with him, and I feel very lucky to have had that opportunity!  My favorite off this record is “Unemployable”, and I decided to give a nod to the man that is inducting them, here they are performing “Unemployable” on Letterman…

Backspacer

I was torn between “Amongst The Waves” and “Just Breathe”…I ended up going with “Just Breathe”, a song that has brought me to tears multiple times due to Eddie’s voice and lyrics being so vulnerable!

Lightning Bolt

Sharing all of these songs and memories and making me anxious for PJ to give us a new album.  If Lightning Bolt is any indication…these guys are showing no signs of slowing down as I put Lightning Bolt right up there with some of their best efforts! I’m going with the song that first introduced me to this record…I love the video, I love the song…and that song is “Sirens”.

Last year we had a chance to catch up with Stone and Mike from Pearl Jam…it’s always surreal when we have them in, they are super nice…down to earth dudes!
