Beat Tourist Season in the San Juans

March 8, 2016

I'm a huge fan of local getaways and the San Juan Islands are conveniently RIGHT THERE! With the springtime weather rolling in (kind of), this is the perfect time to ferry or fly out to this magical corner of the PNW.

First off - getting there! You have lots of options. You can wa lk, bike, or drive on the ferry, depending on what your trip looks like once you get there. I've done all three with great success :) Check out the ferry schedule here.

You can also fly! For my fellow north enders, I highly recommend San Juan Airlines. Not only is the flight affordable, but you have no ferry lines and STUNNING overhead views! They often times have great package offerings, so check their website for a fabulous fly and stay experience.

Here are my favorite places to stay in the islands:

1.  Lopez Islander Resort - Lopez Island: We stayed here last fall and it was fabulous! They have a great pool and hot tub, beautiful views, and it's within walking distance to just about anything you'd need. Right next door, you can rent bikes to pedal around the island! The tiki bar across the street has live music in the evenings, too, so bring your dancing shoes.

2.  The Outlook Inn - Orcas Island: They have many different accommodations available depending on what you like. The Bay View Suites are gorgeous with incredible views, gas fireplaces, and jetted tubs. My favorite place to stay is in their Historic Main Building! It's truly a cozy trip back in time, with no TV in your room and shared bathrooms down the hall. A different yet charming experience!

3.  Roche Harbor Resort - San Juan Island: Roche Harbor Resort is simply stunning, even when it's pouring down rain. The marina has some of the most incredible sunsets and boat-ogling on the docks is encouraged! Whether you stay in the historic Hotel de Haro, the amazing cottages, or the new Quarryman Hall, you are steps from the water and surrounded by beautiful views!

Get to the islands before the busy season, Rockaholics!

Happy Adventuring,
