Taryn's Wreckreation Guide: Bustle About Burlington w/ ME!

March 1, 2017

POWERED BY VISIT BEND

This Saturday I'll be spending some time up north in Burlington! I have spent a lot of time in Skagit County over the years, between living in Stanwood and Bellingham and having a solid group of friends who reside in Mt. Vernon, Burlington and Bow. Skagit Valley TOTALLY rocks, and I'm ecstatic to be heading to Car Toys from noon to 2 on Saturday to celebrate their 30th Birthday Bash!

I'll be hanging at the Burlington Car Toys on Saturday! Peep the events page at KISW.com for the scoop and come say hi!

I'd love to have you pop by for a visit. Then make a day of it by checking out some of my favorite things to do in the area!

Where to have lunch: Car Toys in Burlington literally shares a parking lot with my favorite place to eat in the area - Coconut Kenny's. I've raved about this place MANY a time because they have some of the best pizzas and sandwiches you'll ever have. Brad gets the Spicy Islander, but since I don't do pineapple on pizza, I get a Longboard Sandwich and top it with pepperoni, green peppers and mushrooms! The magic is in their bread...

Where to grab a beer: Technically in Mt. Vernon but close enough, Farmstrong Brewery is just one exit south of the George Hopper exit in the big orange building west of I-5. Owner and brewmaster Mike Armstrong has cleverly named the brews on tap to represent all the great things about Skagit County. My beer of choice is the Stackin' Hay IPA, a true NW India Pale Ale clocking in at 6.8% ABV and 85 IBUs. Cheers!

Where to shop: If you're a musician, an aspiring musician, raising children who might one day be musicians, or just love music, go check out Hugo Helmer, the big orange building you can see just northwest of the George Hopper exit. In recent years I've bought a ukulele, bass guitar effects pedals, and a whole lot more. They have an INCREDIBLE selection of instruments, accessories, song books and the most knowledgeable staff around. Ask for Brad and tell him I sent you! He's a total expert, not to mention a die-hard Rockaholic.

Where to get pampered: Bella Soul Spa is the most wonderful place to relax in the area! Ingrid has an amazing team of massage therapists who will work out the knots you acquired during the stressful work week, leaving you feeling refreshed and new. Whether you're in need of a Deep Tissue Massage, an Essential Oils Detox or a Swedish Massage, their list of spa treatments include something for everyone.

Where to hike: Pack your hiking shoes and hit Little Mountain's short loop hike on your way to or from Burlington. From the lookouts, you can take in stunning views of Skagit Valley farmland, Fidalgo and Whidbey Islands, the Olympics and Puget Sound!

Come see me at the Burlington Car Toys for their 30th Birthday Bash, then get out and find some fun in the area! There's plenty to do before or after you visit me, but definitely make some time for your favorite night owl at KISW. :)

Happy Adventuring,

Taryn Daly
