Taryn's Wreckreation Guide: A Night With Janis Joplin
Last weekend, we went to Seattle's 5th Avenue Theatre to see A Night With Janis Joplin, and I'm basically telling you to HURRY UP and go see it. The last weekend of the production is THIS weekend, and I absolutely recommend you go see it.
I am actually a HUGE Janis Joplin fan - all throughout high school and college I had a framed picture of her on my bedroom wall. We share a birthday, we share a bit of rasp in our voice, and for whatever reason I've always felt a connection to her.
Now that being said, you in no way, shape, or form need to be a die-hard Janis Joplin fan to appreciate this production. But let me tell you - anyone who digs music and live entertainment will love this show. It was like being at a live concert in the 60s with incredible story-telling.
I'm fairly certain the woman who played Janis Joplin, Kacee Clanton, was born for this role. When the curtain first rose and she was on stage, she took my breath away just by her looks alone. It was as if we were staring at Janis herself. And then when she started singing... WOW. It was clear that we were in for an incredible performance! She WAS Janis Joplin, in every way.
There are only FIVE more shows before this amazing production leaves us, so hustle and plan your trip to 5th Avenue! The last showings are tonight (Thursday) at 8pm, tomorrow (Friday) at 8pm, Saturday at either 2pm or 8pm, and Sunday at 1:30pm. I cannot stress it enough - GO! You'll be so happy you did.
