Taryn's Wreckreation Guide: No Lines In Bend

March 8, 2017

POWERED BY VISIT BEND

I won't lie to you - I am a very impatient person! Especially when I'm hungry. Yes, I tend to get hangry, and I am sorry if I ever said anything mean to you while in such a state. One of the reasons I love Bend, Oregon is the fact that they don't make you wait for the fun, the food, or the adventure! Are you remembering the times you stood in line at the chairlift, freezing your buns off, or the time you had to wait an hour for a table at dinnertime? Things are just different in Bend. And it's all within your budget.

As an avid skier, I am a huge fan of Mt. Bachelor for many reasons. The price is right, the lines are few and far between, and it's close to town. For instance, if you were to stay at a budget-friendly vacation rental or hotel in town, you could be on the slopes in under a half-hour. Not only that, but if you're bringing kids along, their Kids Ski Free programs will make your wallet very happy. Because there are more than 4,300 acres of skiable terrain, you'll RARELY if ever find a line at one of their 11 chairlifts. Now that's how you capitalize on verticle feet for the day! This time of year, they're getting pounded with snow overnight, then waking up to perfect bluebird days.

Once you get back to your accommodations and thaw out, finding somewhere to eat nearby is as simple as taking a few steps outside. Downtown Bend is extremely walkable, and they have incredible restaurants serving up some of the finest PNW cuisine. If you're looking for upscale, I recommend The Blacksmith Steakhouse. For something more family-friendly, check out Flatbread Neapolitan Pizzeria

For my fellow hop-heads, you'll want to hit the Bend Ale Trail while you're in town, and with more breweries per capita than any other city in Oregon, you'll have your work cut out for you! Two of my favorites are 10 Barrel Brewing for an Apocalypse IPA, and Worthy Brewing for a Worthy IPA. If you really want to put some work in, I recommend talking to the Bend Brew Bus for a safe and educational ride around Bend!

Every time I think about my adventures in Bend, or hear someone talking about this super-cozy, high-desert town, it makes me want to plan my next escape. There's plenty of winter wonderland to explore, so I'll meet you there!

Happy Adventuring,

Taryn Daly
