Taryn's Wreckreation Guide: The Return Of Miss Rock

Hey Rockaholics!

For myself and my fellow Seattleites and Washingtonians, it wouldn’t be summertime in Seattle without Seafair. Being born and raised here, Seafair has been a part of my world since I was in diapers. This long-standing PNW tradition brings us all back to fond memories, and the anticipation of making new ones.

If you’re a seasoned Rockaholic, you’d remember the incredible days of Seafair legend Miss Rock, KISW’s lovable hydroplane. She was the biggest, baddest, blackest, and above all else – the slowest! That made her all the more endearing. She often times died mid-race and had to be towed back to the pits, where fans would swim out to hand beers to Miss Rock’s drivers. Her lack of victories didn’t keep Miss Rock from quickly becoming a fan-favorite from the time she launched in 1979 to the time she burst into flames and every hydroplane race in between. Miss Rock contestants rode atop this legendary machine. KISW listeners were invited to sign her, right next to autographs from the likes of Def Leppard’s Joe Elliot. She’s been featured in books, newspapers, and blogs. And every single summer, she is remembered by thousands.

Over the years, we have scoured the earth to collect photos and memorabilia from Miss Rock’s heyday, and the nostalgia caused quite a stir among our dear Rockaholics recently. So much so, that it seemed appropriate, nay – critical, to bring back Miss Rock in 2016. YES, she is making her valiant, highly anticipated return to Seafair this year, thanks to the passions and efforts of CARSTAR Auto Body.

To check out all of Miss Rock's adventures, from the early days to the most recent ones, here's a full gallery of all her glory!

We would love to see Rockaholics decked out in KISW gear at the hydroplane races at Seafair 2016, just like the good ol’ days. We’re ready to make new memories and celebrate the rebirth of Miss Rock!
