Playlist: Rockin' Ladies Work Out Mix

Rock Blog

September 21, 2017

I know I usually do a nerdy blog, but I have to talk about something that crossed my mind recently.  Tomorrow is offically the first day of fall; summer is over so you know what that means...all the food holidays!

Between caramel apples and candy for Halloween; turkey and all the potatoes and cheese filled dishes for Thanksgiving, then to top it off, all the drinking and eating for Christmas/New Years.

Now since I had a busy summer, I used that as an excuse to skip the gym a time... or ten and decided to get back in the ol' routine. Also the added motivation from my buddy Matt Koch doesn't hurt!

As I was sweating yesterday at the gym on my first day back, cursing my weak lungs and arms, I decided to switch over to my "Rockin' Ladies Mix" on my phone which is just a compilation of my favorite female singers/bands.

I didn't realize how motivating this playlist would be while I'm trying to do another set of squats and arm presses so I'd thought, why not share it with you!

"Blood" by In This Moment

How can you not run until your lungs are burning or lifting another set while listening to Maria Brink's haunting vocals?

"Heaven's A Lie" by Lacuna Coil

Now this song takes me back to high school, getting geared up for a soccer game while listening to this song on my fancy anti-skip CD player, getting amped up to score some goals.

"Blood in the Cut" by K.Flay

I think the reason I love this song is for the line "I need noise!" Because I get anxious when in a silent room so I feel like I can relate!

Quick aside, do you ever listen to a song and make up a music video in your head with you and your friends? Well, every time I hear this song, I picture the amazing Rock Girl Amber, walking down a long hallway in the same beat of the song with giant platform sandals and glasses, while holding a chainsaw...yeah weird but still a cool visual haha.

"Bring Me To Life" by Evanescence

I have loved this song since I first heard it at the age of 14, and probably always will. I think this is a good song to put on as you start your cardio because it starts off slow the gets you pumped up and excited to keep moving.

PS: Check out the new rendition that recently came out:

"Bad Romance" cover by Halestorm

A while back I found a cover album by Halestorm and hell in love with how Lzzy Hale sang Lady Gaga's "Bad Romance". I may also love belting this out while driving...don't judge!

"Tennessee" by Meg Meyers

Such an awesome, snarky song that takes a shot at the current state of hipster culture, which also makes me want to visit Tennessee!

Those are my main songs, but I'm always looks for more. What female singer/band gets you moving? Give me your suggestions!
