Vicky's Dirty N' Nerdy Blog: "The Umbrella Academy"

July 13, 2017

Oh the early 2000’s. It was a time of the emo black hair cut, popped collars, and the orange tan.

This was the time when little teenage Vicky discovered her love of the goth/emo/rocker genre.

I mean, look at little, weird, moody, Vicky B!

*SO MUCH TEEN ANGST!*

One of the bands that was always blaring on my anti-skip CD player that was covered in the silver part of gum wrappers was My Chemical Romance.

Hate all you want, but you can’t deny that their songs were catchy as all hell.

They embodied the emo culture from the makeup to the clothes, to the screams on the mic; and not to sound cheesy, but they actually got me through some really tough moments.

Aside being the eccentric looking front man, Gerard Way is also a comic book writer. He’s been credited for two issues of a series called On Raven's Wings (which was cancelled after two issues due to losing their art team), The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys (which features one of my favorite artists Becky Cloonan along with Shaun Simon) and most notably, The Umbrella Academy!

I believe that BJ was the one that turned me on to this comic (or vice versa) but The Umbrella Academy is a beautiful piece of art in both writing and art. The illustrator, Gabriel Bá, has a very dark art style which has a Mike Mignola/ Hell Boy vibe to it. There are currently only two trades out, with a third and fourth still in the works currently.

Well, the reason why I am taking you down memory lane is because it was just announced that Netflix will be creating a live action series of The Umbrella Academy!

It has been confirmed that we will be getting a 10 part series that will air in 2018! As for who the cast will be, still no info, but while chatting with my buddy Chase on Facebook Live (watch below), we mentioned how awesome it would be if they incorporated “The Black Parade” into the show or some other My Chemical Romance songs!

Anywho, what do you think? Another hit for Netflix? Or what comic series would you liked to see get adapted into a television series?

Until Next Time, Stay Nerdy!
