Jabroni Journal: Match Of The Week

AJ Styles vs. Christopher Daniels vs. Samoa Joe (from TNA Unbreakable 2005)

August 4, 2016

Ok ok, I know what you're thinking...."TNA?! Really?!" Humor me for a moment, will ya?

Travel back in time 11 years... What we see is a company that truly had its own identity as a strong alternative to what WWE was doing . Instead of using washed up ex-WWE wrestlers, during this period TNA was putting their stock into the up-and-coming talents that made their names in the American independent wrestling scene. Sound familiar? That's exactly what NXT is doing today - focusing on building up smaller wrestlers with more high-flying action and intensity in the ring.

We are currently witnessing the revival of the Cruiserweight division in WWE, which is AWESOME! The Cruiserweight Classic tournament has been solid so far and we are being promised the return of the division to the Raw brand within the coming months. TNA's answer to Cruiserweights has always been the X-Division. Aside from the striking image of the 6-sided ring, the X-Division matches were what first caught my attention about TNA back in 2005. I was getting a little bored with the storylines in WWE and was blown away by wrestlers like AJ Styles and Christopher Daniels who mixed high flying insanity with hard hitting strikes.

This match main evented the Unbreakable 2005 Pay Per View and is hands down my favorite TNA match of all time. Don't let your preconceived notions of what TNA has become deter you from pressing play. This is pure wrestling gold.
