Rock Blog: Happy Birthday Axl!

February 6, 2017

Guns N’ Roses are in Australia right now, on a world tour that’s crushing every city it sets down in, with another three-hour romp of hits. Also today, Axl Rose, born William Bruce Rose Jr., celebrates the big 55! Happy Birthday Axl!

Far too many people counted GnR out, calling 2016's reunion over before it even started, but last year they had the 4th biggest tour in the world, right behind Bruce Springsteen, Beyonce and Coldplay. And fortunately for us all, ahead of Adele. And that, friends, is some good company to be in - at least in terms of selling concert tickets.

Rose was born in Indiana, headed to LA before he was 21, dabbled with a few local bands like L.A. Guns, and by time he was 23 started Guns N’ Roses. The rest truly is history. Gunners changed the game with Appetite for Destruction in 1987. They burned bright, and burned fast, and by 1993… well you know the rest of the story. One of the great Rock n Roll tales of debauchery and clashing egos.

But damn, last year they came back strong, and Axl really looked and sounded great. At a time where the haters keep hating on the future of rock, GnR (and Bruce, too), keep going, and going strong. KISW Presents GnR at The Gorge on September 3rd.

Happy 55th Birthday Axl.
