Taryn's Wreckreation Guide: Mt. Bachelor Beckons

February 27, 2017

POWERED BY VISIT BEND

If you've ever read my Wreckreation Guide before or stumbled upon any of my weekend adventures on social media, it's pretty clear that I'm a cold-weather person! I grew up in a family of winter-lovers - my mom and dad are skiers, my brother and youngest sister are snowboarders, and my middle sister and I ski, just like ma and pa. Our family vacations were never to Mexico or Hawaii. It was always a 6+ hour car ride to a winter wonderland with a ski rack on top and a trailer hauling all our gear. If you're jonesing for a winter vacation with the fam or even a guys' weekend getaway, Mt. Bachelor has the slopes and Bend has the suds.

Growing up in Seattle and Stanwood, I was always used to a minimum hour-and-a-half drive to the summit of my home mountains. In Bend you get spoiled, because the slopes are a 20 minute drive from downtown and you're skiing Mt. Bachelor in no time. With so many different lodging options, there's a place that fits every style and budget. Not only that, but one of Central Oregon's biggest draws this time of year is the sunshine, so plan for bluebird days on the mountain and remember to pack your sunscreen!

Today is a perfect sunny day in the mountains. || #visitbend || -- @pete_alport

Between 11 chairlifts, more than 100 runs and 4,318 acres of skiable terrain, you'll definitely want to spend a few days exploring all Mt. Bachelor has to offer.

One of our trusted snow reporters out "sampling the product" yesterday so we can tell you first hand how good the powder is! We've received 9" of dry and light, weightless snow in the past 24 hours. No such thing as a case of the Mondays if you're riding powder on the mountain! #mtbachelor #mtbachelorstoked

And if you're bringing your mini-me along, be sure to check out Mt. Bachelor's Kids Ski Free deals.

If skiing or boarding isn't really your thing, fear not! There are plenty of recreational activities to try, like snowshoeing, cross country skiing and sledding.

One of my favorite parts of a day on the slopes is the celebratory beer afterward, and since Bend is home to more breweries per-capita than any other city in Oregon, you'll want to spend some time sampling the brews of Beer Town USA! I recommend consulting with experts via the Bend Ale Trail

Oh hello BEND ALE TRAIL!! #doingwork #bendaletrail #souvenirs
