Ted's Blog: NFL Combine

March 1, 2017

The NFL Combine started this week and I used to love the Combine but not as much anymore. The NFL Combine for those of you who don't know is where the top college prospects from around the country come together and get measured and run through drills according to position. Now, I do believe the combine is very useful for teams, especially the interview process where they get some one on one time with the players who they may soon hire.  Personally, I am not as big a fan because I do think some players look great running through drills in athletic gear, but that does not always translate into production on the field.

I should also say, I think it's a great process for players because you get to meet coaches and if you get invited to the Combine you are most likely getting drafted at some point. I don't think most of the drills really show the true football skills some guys have. Over the years there have been a lot of guys who are not great on paper, but damn can they ball. In most sports, but I think especially in American football, it is hard to measure the heart of someone.

Some guys are also just game-time guys. One of the other reasons I don't like the Combine as much is that everyone is all about it now. It is kind of like what happened to fantasy football. My buddies and I were the guys that were always into it, but now it seems like every NFL fan I know wants to talk about the Combine. Now with that all said, maybe I am just getting old and picky, but the Combine is not what it used to be to me.

Oh yeah, but Rich Eisen running the 40 yard dash is still awesome and I love it every year. Run Rich Run!
