Taryn's Wreckreation Guide: What Local Ski Resorts Are Up To This Summer

July 19, 2017

I'm a passionate Powder Hound, venturing to local ski resorts every winter to take in as many vertical feet as I can while the season is open. But after the snow melts, the fun is FAR from over! Get reacquainted with your local mountains in the summertime, because they have a LOT going on at the moment!

I spend most of my winter weekends skiing the slopes of Mt. Baker, but in the summertime I love to visit Artist Point, which is without a doubt one of the most gorgeous alpine adventures in the area. Drive to the end of Mt. Baker Highway to Artist Point parking lot and you can take in stunning views of both Mt. Shuksan and Mt. Baker, as well as access to a variety of trails in the area.

Need food? Heather Meadows Cafe is now open, featuring the perfect menu for fueling up! You can either dine-in or take your lunch to go.

Head over Highway 2 and take a scenic chair lift ride up Hogsback at Stevens Pass, and either ride back down or take a walk down the mountain. There are multiple hikes to take in, connecting with the Pacific Crest Trail.

Mountain bikers will absolutely LOVE heading to Stevens Pass this time of year, so check out the Bike Park. Their Thursday Night Throwdown series is underway, and they are only one race down! Four more to go, so check out the race configurations, costs and categories, then head to the Granite Peaks Lodge for all the action. Just watching last week's video compilation should get your adrenaline pumping!

Think you earned a beer? The Bull's Tooth is serving up Icicle Brewery Company's finest craft brews, plus you can get down on some killer grub!

The summer activities are ENDLESS at Crystal Mountain Resort! Don't believe me? Have you ever done Mountain Yoga? Yup, that's a thing. But if it's not YOUR thing, you could go Horseback Riding with Chinook Pass Outfitters. You can also head there for a round of Disc Golf with your buddies in a scenic mountain setting! That's just the tip of their adventure iceberg at Crystal.

Worked up an appetite? Kick back at Summit House Restaurant for some great northwest eats, a handcrafted cocktail and a side of stunning scenery.

Don't wait for winter to visit your local mountain resort - now is the time to get back up there and soak in all the summer season has to offer!

Happy Adventuring,

Taryn Daly
