During their show earlier this week at Rabobank Arena in Bakersfield, CA, Nine Inch Nails covered David Bowie’s “I Can’t Give Everything Away.”

According to Rolling Stone, frontman Trent Reznor introduced the song by referring to Bowie as one of their heroes, explaining that working on this particular song of his helped bring them “some sort of closure” after hearing the news of his death.

Below, listen to both the original and the NIN cover and note the dark twist NIN gives the Bowie track via their live performance.

“I Can’t Give Everything Away” was featured on Bowie’s final album, Blackstar, and the song itself was released just days before he tragically passed away.

While it doesn’t look like the Bowie cover will be featured on it, the second in a series of three EPs to be released this year by NIN, Add Violence, drops Friday, July 21.
