Move Over, Beer. The PNW Has A STRONG Chocolate Game.

August 21, 2017

The greater Seattle area is home to some of the country's most excellent craft beers, but many local chocolate makers are just as passionate as local brewers, and chocolate addicts like myself have taken notice.

*I feel it's important to state that you cannot blame me for a new chocolate obsession after reading this blog*

On top of the melt-in-your-mouth indulgence they're providing, BIJA Chocolates in Bellingham is doing some serious good when it comes to the chocolate industry. Not only do they offer unique creations like Wild Ginger & Cayenne, they're also involved with women’s cooperatives to produce the finest chocolate while supporting families, community, and culture. Scope out some of their peculiar flavor combinations online, or find BIJA in stores and eat that chocolate guilt-free, because it's SO much more than satisfying a craving - you're contributing to a stellar mission!

Taryn's Pick: Tart Citrus Incaberry

For years, Seattle Chocolates has been tickling taste buds with an expansive selection of truffle bars, including one for the 12th Man - the Loud Proud Seattle Sea Salt Milk Chocolate Truffle Bar. But when you dive a little deeper, there is a distinct passion reaching far beyond the love of chocolate. They're committed to fighting the hunger crisis our country faces, donating more than one million fresh food servings across the United States! PLUS, they are palm-oil-free, which protects our planet's rainforests.

Taryn's Pick: Campers' S'Mores Bar

“We’re voting with our pocketbook. We’re saying this matters to us. We want cacao trees to be around, we want there to be enough cocoa for the world’s growing hunger and desire, and we want the people who do that hard work to be taken care of.” - CEO Jean Thompson on why we use @rainforestalliance Certified cocoa, Candy Industry Magazine

The next time you're looking to spoil yourself or a loved one with some chocolate, shop local and when you do, you're truly helping the greater good! If that's not the definition of a win-win, I'm not sure what is. Indulge, Rockaholics!

Happy Adventuring,
