Vans Warped Tour Saying Goodbye in 2018

Shocking announcement today for the last Warped Tour!

Wow! Warped Tour creator Kevin Lyman laying down another big bombshell on us today! If his stopping of the Rockstar Mayhem and Uproar tours a few years ago wasn't bad enough for our hard rock/metal community now it's turn for the even longer decades running Warped Tour. Per his press release: "I have been a very lucky person to have traveled across the country and sometimes around the world as one of the founders and producers of the Vans Warped Tour. Today, with many mixed feelings, I am here to announce that next year will be the final, full cross-country run of the Vans Warped Tour. I sit here reflecting on the tour’s incredible history, what the final run means for our community, and look forward to what’s to come as we commemorate the tour’s historic 25th anniversary in 2019." (read full statement here

Warped Tour was a home for MANY new up and coming alternative, hardcore, rock, punk, metal etc. bands over the years. A place they kinda grew out of and into the bigger spectrum. Over 11 million fans have seen the Warped Tour over the years. Hell I remember back in 1997 when the tour hit the Gorge and had little known bands like Blink 182 and Sugar Ray. Millions and millions of albums sold later this tour was the little stepping stone for them all. This years tour was amazing in the Century Link Field parking lot. Everyone from (and who are playing Showbox Sodo tonight) known acts like GWAR
that bring people in and then those people (like myself) discovering new amazing acts like Barb Wire Dolls because I went there to see some known acts.
That combo was a working force bigger than you can imagine with the Warped Tour in the industry. What's really disappointing and a real slap in the face to us in the Northwest who have supported this tour every year for decades, there's no final tour dates near us at all!

Looks like if ya wanna go you're gonna have to plan a trip. I'll probably do Phoenix if the bands they announce for the tour are decent. I'm hoping they ask some of those old bands back in the day like No Doubt, Sugar Ray, Blink 182, Ice-T, Eminem, The Offspring, Sevendust etc. to come out for a send-off of send-off's tour but I doubt it with the money wanted by those bands now a days. The future for new bands and music in general keeps dimming year after year with losses like this tour in the industry. It was good while it lasted.
