BJ'S BLOG 03/07/16 "Say What? Donald Trump"

March 7, 2016

Today's blog comes from on of my mentors, Dan Sanders:

“Say what” is two simple words. I have used them often either in a tone of disbelief or to get the speaker to repeat themselves, two very simple words that Donald Trump does not know how to say. Or did his mouth get in the way? It’s obvious that “The Donald” has never learned the art of listening.
When asked about his statements or lack of statements about the Ku Klux Klan, Trump refused to disavow former KKK grand wizard David Duke and later blamed a "bad earpiece.” He told NBC's "Today" show, “I was sitting in a house in Florida with a bad earpiece. I could hardly hear what he's saying. I hear various groups. I don't mind disavowing anyone. I disavowed Duke the day before at a major conference."

I have worked in radio since I was 16 and came of age listening to AM stations late at night with enough static to light up the Frankenstein monster. If you want to hear something, you will. I have used a lot of bad headphones but rarely so bad I couldn’t tell what was being said. If I couldn’t understand, I was smart enough to either keep my mouth shut or ask what was said. In other words, say what?

Most of the free, thinking world knows that Donald Trump is a loose cannon and a very dangerous man who would lead this country into a disaster if not an all-out war. I think the Republicans are not so much scrambling to beat the Democrats as they are to save the party and potentially the country. It totally boggles my mind how anyone, especially a black, a Hispanic, or a woman of any race or ethnicity could vote for Donald Trump. It would be like me voting for Ted Nugent after he called Native Americans vermin. I vehemently dislike Donald Trump. I even fear Donald Trump perhaps more than I feared Richard Milhous Nixon, and I was locked in near mortal combat against his policies. Will I have to take to the streets again?

I read that many Americans say they would vote for Hillary Clinton and not vote for Bernie Sanders because Americans would not vote for a socialist. Let me get this straight: I as an American would not vote for Bernie Sanders because most Americans would not vote for Bernie Sanders. Say what?
America is ready for a change, ready for a revolution, but maybe it’s just going to take a little longer than some of us would like. I don’t think Bernie has much of a chance, but he has given me hope. When I see young people taking an interest in this election and in Bernie, my hope is that when my granddaughter is a voter, there will be a younger Bernie type who will walk on the trail blazed by Bernie Sanders and win her vote and the votes of many other Americans who will then be ready for a “democratic socialist.” My hope now is there is no Donald Trump in office. If there is, there might be no world for my granddaughter to vote in.

I will have a little more political ramble as well as rock and roll history in the podcast. Join me on the shores of Rambling Harbor.
