Migs Blog 04/11/16 "Guns N' Tulips"

April 11, 2016

What an awesome weekend…something rather huge happened this weekend, yup…you guessed it… I drove to Mount Vernon to check out the Tulip Festival.  How was it?  I tweeted my review:

This trip was one of those “It’s not the destination, it’s the journey” moments.  The trip took over 3 hours to just get there… thanks to traffic.  However, the trip was a blast as my wife and I had a great time chatting and listening to music.  The actual Tulip Festival…well, let’s just say we both agreed to never go back.  It’s a long drive to look at…well…flowers.

OK, the actual HUGE thing that happened this weekend… Guns N’ Roses performed 2 sold out shows…marking the return of Duff & Slash to a stage with Axl.  I think a lot of people were skeptical of how things would sound…I have to say, judging from the videos I watched, Axl’s voice sounded AWESOME.  The band sounded great…only making me even more pumped for this tour.  Our very own Ryan Castle was at the show and I love his simple, yet informative review: “Guns N Roses kicked ass Friday night.”

I found a couple cool clips to give you a taste of what it was like.  You’ll notice that Axl is sitting in what looks like Dave Grohl’s throne that he used after breaking his leg…that’s because it was Dave’s throne.  Axl broke his pinky toe on his foot and needed to be off the foot for a couple weeks, so he borrowed Dave’s throne…

Here they are performing "Sweet Child O’ Mine" ….

Here they are rocking out to “Welcome to the Jungle”…

Alice In Chains opened for G N’R…and our bud, concert photographer Iron Mike Savoia was there, and snapped one of the coolest pictures I have ever seen.  I need to get a print of this and frame it for the office!
