Steve Migs Blog 06/30/15 "The MegaCast Invades KING5"

Huge thanks to the fine folks over at New Day Northwest on KING5 for having us on their show!

That’s right… Thee Ted Smith and I (aka The MegaCast) were on during their Hot Topics segment, and it was a blast as always!

Of course up until the moment that we were on TV… we were prepping backstage!

If you missed our big MegaCast TV debut… Here is the appearance:

So yesterday the NHL announced the latest inductees for the Hockey Hall Of Fame, and one of the guys inducted was Sergei Fedorov.  They showed a clip of John Davidson and Lanny McDonald calling him… and I had to replay this multiple times, as I couldn’t believe what he said!

Steve Migs Blog 06/29/15 "Rainiers & Steak!"

What a fun, busy weekend.  On Saturday we had a blast at the Rainiers game.  We had a gathering of the Titanic Douches for a Migs Cast listener party.  Here’s a pic of some of us!

Thanks to everyone that came out… you all were a fun rowdy bunch… after a few drinks, it quickly became the “heckle the other team” party!

If you aren’t a member of our group on Facebook, you are missing out on a fun, drama free, community.  Just search “The Migs Cast” to find us, and please join.  We hope to have more fun parties in the future.

The R Yard is a fun section to check a game out at Cheney Stadium…

Plus it was fun to be in charge of the music played during batting practice…

Over the weekend we all went and “chaperoned” Sara’s date for “Win A Date With BJ’s Daughter”.  That was a blast!  Thanks to car Pros for driving them around in a sweet Hyundai Eqqus…

Thanks to Sullivan’s Steakhouse for the great setting for the date.  The food was amazing…get the calamari as an appetizer (damn!), and their signature drink, The Knockout, is awesome!

Chris from our show was there filming, and put together a fun recap video of the date…check it out!

You can’t beat a morning when this type of radio happens!

On Monday I shared with you how much fun I had at the Draft Tournament – a travelling hockey tournament that was in Bremerton over the weekend.  A couple of pix have surfaced… check out our team (green) and the team we played in the championship.

We wound up winning 3-2…it was a true battle to the last second, and was an honor to play with and  against great competitors!

Like I mentioned before… this is a hockey…and BOOZIN’ event… and this picture sums up the weekend.  This was taken on night one, and they stayed like that for about 3 hours!

This week on the Mega Cast, Thee Ted Smith and I have a very random episode… you should check it out as we tackle issues like Electronic Dance Music, the Confederate Flag, and why is my chest currently shaved to look like the state of Louisanna?  Listen here…

Steve Migs Blog 06/24/15 "You Threw An AXE?!?"

I’ve done a lot of stupid things in my life… but this is one of the dumber things I have seen and I am certain my little brain would tell me, “Steve…don’t be an idiot and throw an axe at a small target while people are behind it”.  Unfortunately for Fox & Friends co-host Pete Hegseth… he chose not to listen to common sense, and hucked an axe at a target… missed, and hit a guy playing the drums.

Thankfully the guy is OK… but he did share his thoughts about the idiot TV guy on a Facebook post.  The drummer’s name is Jim Prosperie, and he wrote:

My leadership told me they were told there would be no axe throwing. I think the anchor person went rogue and decided to throw it. He had only thrown it once before in practice for an upcoming segment and they told him to throw it with more force. The vid you see is edited showing the Televised portion of the throw and then edited to a portion that was taken on someone’s phone of us being videoed. The part that was actually televised showed the overthrown axe and then segued to us for the drum solo bump, only showing me walking behind the section holding my arm. The actual part where the axe hit me was not televised. Poor decision, obvious negligence, should not have happened, could have been avoided. When shooting or throwing, always know what is behind your target. Basic safety rule.

Here is the video:

Steve Migs Blog 06/23/15 "Maron and Obama"

I hate talking politics… it’s pointless when people aren’t willing to keep their mind open to others opinions.  People won’t even process another person’s opinion if it doesn’t fall in line with their stubborn mentality.  It’s a huge reason why I don’t identify with either of the 2 big parties… I don’t agree with everything that is said by either side…and I certainly won’t dismiss someone (mainly politicians) because of what letter is put next to their name.  If you make sense in what you say, I will pay attention to any politician’s words.

I say all of this because today we were talking about how the President was on Marc Maron’s podcast, “WTF”… yes… Barack Obama went to Marc’s house and recorded a podcast in his garage.  How crazy and awesome is that?  I say extremely awesome, but of course those that aren’t fans of the President use this as an opportunity to spew hate.  Relax people.  Seriously.  I think this was a brilliant move by the president – talk about forward thinking?  He just embraced a relatively new form of media… and I hope this leads to more moments like this.  I would feel the same way if this was President Bush, Clinton, or any other leader of our country.

This picture alone is incredible…

Of corse the big news from all oif this is that the president used the “N” word… the headlines of course read, “THE PRESIDENT SAID THE “N” WORD IN AN INTERVIEW”… oh my gosh, the horror.   How could he?!?! Hopefully the people that had that knee jerk reaction eventually listened to why he said it….which was brilliant.  Why?  Had he not said that word…less attention would have been given to the context of why he said it…which was a powerful commentary on society now.

They were talking about the church shooting in Charleston, and racism in America in general.  Obama said, "It is incontrovertible that race relations have improved significantly in my lifetime and yours, and that opportunities have opened up, and that attitudes have changed.  That is a fact.  What is also true is that the legacy of slavery, Jim Crow, discrimination in almost every institution of our lives, that casts a long shadow.  And that's still part of our DNA that's passed on.  We're not cured of it.  It's not just a matter of it not being polite to say (the “N” word) in public.  That's not the measure of whether racism still exists or not.  It's not just a matter of overt discrimination."

Props to Marc for a great interview that had some very fun moments as well in it.  I look forward to Thursday’s episode where he shares behind the scenes stories about the President being on his show.

Steve Migs Blog 06/22/15 "Unreal Draft Tournament!"

Oh man am I hurting today!  I just spent the weekend in Bremerton having the time of my life.

Over the weekend, myself and a few of my hockey buds took part in an awesome travelling hockey tournament called the Draft Tournament.  Each month they are in a different city in the U.S. and in Canada (in the past it’s been in Vegas, Juneau, Toronto, Canmore, etc)…and this past weekend was the Bremerton one.

The concept of the tournament is a blast…everyone that registered gathered on Friday night at the Clover Leaf bar in Bremerton and spent the night chatting, drinking, and then drafting. Going into the weekend you didn’t have a team… you created the team that night as they had 13 rounds and put like-skilled players in each round to make the teams as fair as possible.  Each round there would be a beer chugging race to determine who go the first pick.  Hell, we even did a beer chugging race to determine who picked jersey’s first… Here I am in the middle of that battle…

Goalies are in the books. Seattle is on its way!

Posted by NCHL Draft Tournament on Friday, June 19, 2015

So as the night goes on, you slowly build a team…it’s fun to see how everyone is strategizing and deciding who to pick.  I had a philosophy for my team… mainly it was to draft my buddy Jay that plays on the Donkeys with me…plus we were sharing a room together…besides that, I looked for players that looked like they are grinders on the ice and fans of crushing a beer or two.  I succeeded on both accounts… here I am with Jay…

As for the rest of the team… we had a team of, as they say in the hockey world, “beauties”.  Everyone on our team was cool as hell.. and yes… they could crush beers… as we proved that on Friday night when we dominated the beer chugging race to determine our schedule for the weekend.

Yup… we finished in 109 seconds… the next closes team finished at 125 seconds.

One of my big strategies (besides drinking ability) in picking the team was trying to create a team that would have chemistry – through the draft I was able to get a father and son… as well as a father and daughter…and when we played our first game on Saturday, I knew that was a smart choice.  We came out flying and won our first game 6-3…then we grabbed a shut-out in the second game 5-0…but then we hit a wall, thanks to some unlucky bounces we were handed our first loss 5-3…which concluded the day.

Then we boozed!  We hit up a place called the Garage in Bremerton, which was an awesome place… plus we had an opportunity to grab a pic with some random person’s birthday cake.

We then all wound up staying up late drinking in our hotel room.  Getting an early night’s rest was not in the plan… so on Sunday we were all hurting for our first game.  We played a team that was undefeated on Saturday, and won their last game 12-2…we knew that it would be a battle, but our team played hard and grinded out a 5-1 win….putting us in the championship game! We had a couple hours break before this game… and the game was an absolute battle.  It was tied with 2 minutes left when my bud Jay scored a huge goal to put us up 3-2.  The last minute of the game was intense… I thankfully was able to stop a few shots fired my way in those last few minutes to win the game!

Thanks to Cody, who heard about me playing in the tournament on the Migs Cast for coming down to cheer us on...and for snapping a few pix:

Winning the championship was a damn cool experience… but who I was able to win it with made it all the more awesome… knowing that a guy named Doug and his daughter Mo… as well as a guy named Dave and his son Jack… were all able to play together for a weekend (especially father’s day weekend) was an experience I can’t put into words!

A few of us all said the same thing… usually when you take part into any event, you will usually have ideas on how things could have been better… with this tournament, I have no suggestions on what they could improve… these guys executed this event flawlessly, and accomplished their goal – to have fun and play hockey.  I can’t wait to play in more of these tournaments!

Big thanks to Nick (you have head him on our podcast), Brett, Roman, and everyone else from the NCHL for bringing the Draft Tournament to town.

Steve Migs Blog 06/19/15 "Party With The Blackhawks!"

Even though I am not a Blackhawks fan…they seem like the team I would most want to party with.  From Patrick Kane’s drunken antics to Corey Crawford’s foul mouth when on live television… these guys bring the party.  Yesterday was their Stanley Cup victory parade, and I love that a couple of the guys on the team decided to sing one of my favorite Macklemore songs, “And We Danced”:

Not familiar with that song?  It’s a fun one!

Steve Migs Blog 06/18/15 "Float On"

So recently I took up a new way to refresh my mind and body…

If people realized how awesome floating is, and how it gives you such a high (both mind and body) – they might outlaw it like it’s a drug!  Ok, I kid…as I am sure it will never get outlawed, but I am not kidding that the floating experience is some next level stuff.

It’s hard to put it into words… but imagine what it would be like to float in space in the dark… by yourself… left to your own thoughts… that is just cracking the surface of the float experience.

It’s amazing how therapeutic it can be when you are putting no pressure on any part of your body… as you focus in on how you breathe and how you think.

I’m not kidding… there was a moment during the float that it felt like I was dead, and all I was left with was my soul and thoughts.  Yes, I know that sounds crazy, but spend a minute chatting with someone that actively floats, and I am sure they will also tell you some crazy stories as well.

I love it so much that I purchased a monthly membership at Float Seattle

I recently shared my experience floating on an episode of The Migs Cast…you can listen to that episode here:

Joe  Rogan (comedian, podcaster, UFC color commentator)  is a HUGE advocate of floating… this is a pretty cool video someone made that includes Joe talking about it…

What is floating?  Well, you get into an isolation tank that is filled with under a foot of water that is filled with about 800 pounds of salt water…and you just float for about an hour.  Say goodbye to gravity as the salt in the water will hold you up.

It’s hard to put it into words… but imagine what it would be like to float in space in the dark… by yourself… left to your own thoughts… that is just cracking the surface of the float experience.
