This morning began with a discussion based on Atlanta Falcon's owner Arthur Blank's appearance on Monday Night Football. Blank made a comment that upset some people as they thought it was a racist remark. he was being interviewed by the MNF crew & Tony Kornheiser asked him if Michel would ever play for the Falcons again. Blank explained that it depends on where Michael is at physically & mentally in 23 months & said that he doesn't know if he is going to still be in shape if he eats Fried Chicken & French Fries while in the slammer. So people are upset that he picked a food that over the years has been stereotyped as a food that black people eat. Say what you will...but Fried Chicken is delicious...I could eat it every day...good thing I'm not a quarterback that is in prison as I would be screwed. Insert prison joke here. he strange part is that even if he meant no ill will (which I think he didn't mean for it to come off as racist), it wasn't the first time that day that he used it as his food reference of choice. he said the exact same thing in an interview on the Falcons website. Blank said: "If Michael makes a mistake and eats fried chicken and French fries everyday he could come out weighing 250 pounds and he won’t be able to play football. How he’s going to be able to keep himself in shape, maintain himself, stay athletically tuned and mentally tuned, I don’t know."
I think as a society it is the sensitive people that make things out to be worse than they really are. This seemed to be the theme for the rest of the day as we interviewed comedian & star of TBS's Frank TV, Frank Caliendo this morning, and he is known for his hilarious impressions of John Madden, and Jim Rome to name a few. Both of these guys hate the impression...which is sad, because in my opinion you have really cut through as a celeb if someone has taken time to sound/be just like you.
A lot of our female listeners are pissed at Chad Eaton for his dog joke that he did yesterday...we discussed it in yesterday's blog & in the video blog, but this email sums up the overall vibe:
BJ-- I'm a regular listener to the BJ Show. Sometimes I agree with the topic, sometimes I don't. Generally I laugh my ass off. Occasionally I get annoyed. But that's part of the deal and I appreciate the "no apologies" style of the show; it tends to be honest if flawed, and I enjoy it. Today was different. I just read Steve the Producer's blog, I watched the video blog of Chad Eaton and all I can think is "damage control." I heard that segment and I don't buy it. That guy isn't sorry and he wasn't really kidding. BJ's comment about Eaton's inability to follow directions seemed to reiterate the already obvious point; that guy is a freak. You can try to say that it was guys kidding around, but it didn't come across that way to me. Regardless, if feeding dogs puppies, forcing them to fight to the death, gambling in hopes of making money on their suffering, drowning them or electrocuting them by their genitals is something your show thinks is funny, I can't support that. And I definitely don't think Mr. Eaton is funny.
If you heard yesterday's show, you know I didn't agree with Chad defending Michael Vick, but I did laugh at his dog joke... know he meant know real harm by that joke...in fact his reaction to our reaction to his "running dogs over" line was priceless. I think this joke would not have upset so many listeners if it wasn't preceded by him stating that he feels bad for Michael. Being that Chad is a Cougar, I think he hates anything Dawg related.
Today's video blog busts Toppy taking a picture of the sunrise!!!! WTF!!!!!
