The Mothership has landed in Seattle, Washington.
At the helm are four artists whose pasts are as varied as their personalities. Their repertoire is a polished and satisfying mixture of the revolutionary and the familiar. Gritty vocals and gripping lyrics come from a place of reality, devoid of the buzzwords and cliches of today's overly produced rock. John Beckman and Paul Fraser’s heavy guitars work together to compliment and add sophistication, not flash. A solid and sophisticated backbone is provided by Will Andrews and Ryan Thornes on drums and bass respectively.
The band recorded a strong full length album 'Ten Miles Wide' at Houdini’s Tree Studios in Seattle in early 2011 with producer/engineer David Green. They have opened for Floater, The Missionary Position and Just Like Vinyl, played The Crocodile and Neumos, took part in KEXP's Noise for the Needy 2012 concert series and had success on the college radio circuit in the same year.
The Mothership will soon embark on recording their follow up to 'Ten Miles Wide' with an evolved version of their sound. The album will hit around fall 2013.
These four Seattle natives emerged on the music scene in 2006 with a unique sound that has been described as a "classic feel with a modern edge." The band is made up of front man Matt Strutynski (guitar/vocals), Jake Jovanovich (drums/vocals), Bobby Steenrod (bass) and Brad Steenrod (lead guitar). Since their inception six years ago, Van Eps has developed their sound into an epic, eclectically influenced, crowd pleasing reverberation. Their brand of rock and roll is only achieved through Jake's heavy-hitting beats, Brad's thrashing guitar technique, Bobby's unwaveringly solid bass grooves, and Matt's unique vocal timbre.
According to Seattle legend Scott Olson, "they're one of Seattle's most entertaining bands. Front man Matt Strutynski does a great job of connecting with the audience and the band is tighter than "Ebenezer Scrooge""
Previously an exclusively live experience, accessible only to the committed rocker in the concert hall, they're now available to rock n' roll enthusiasts everywhere with the release of their first two singles, "Go Ahead" and "Save Yourself". Along with the upcoming release of their third single "Nineteen", which said music video is to be unveiled at their Sunset Tavern show in Ballard on June 15th. Get there early so you don't get turned away at the door!
