JOLENE'S BIG ROCK BLOG!

7/31  Man the studio is a cooker again tonight!  Started off my night finding out somthing rad......James and Lars met on my Birthday.....5/9!  Thought I'd include a few other things you may not know.

James Hetfield and Lars Ulrich met on May 9th, 1981 in Newport Beach, California. They formed Metallica six months later.

James Hetfield's first band was called Obsession.

James Hetfield's senior quote in his high school yearbook read, "Play music, get rich."

Lars Ulrich and James Hetfield were the voices of two teenage dragons on the Disney Channel animated series Dave the Barbarian.

Metallica recorded their first demo tape in April of 1982.

Metallica toured with Twisted Sister in 1984.

Metallica's 2004 tour rider asked for the usual bottled water, towels and beer -- and a hefty portion of bacon to be available at every meal and throughout the day. The list also includes vegetarian baked beans, "good dark chocolate candy" and "cube-shaped boxes of tissues." And if they haven't had enough bacon, fresh hummus or British blend tea, they require takeout menus from all area restaurants.

James Hetfield, a hockey fan, hosted two episodes of E-S-P-N's The Season.

Master of Puppets came in at number-167 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the "Top 500 Greatest Albums of All Time."

Kirk Hammett was number-11 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of "The 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time."

In other stuff....next Tuesday (8/4) is Cruefest Super Tuesday!

I may have to reschedule Loaded for Loud And Local...(hey Duff's a busy guy!)

Sixx A.M. nabbed another win in the Cockfight tonight.  I can't believe Cruefest is coming up next Friday 8/8 already!  Keep checking my lil' Big Rock Blog to find out what yours truely will be doing  in regards to Cruefest!

I came across this story while I was showprepping earlier today and it kinda made me giggle....

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Police say they have confiscated a gun belonging to Jerry Lewis that was found in the 82-year-old entertainer's carryon bag as he prepared to fly to Detroit from Las Vegas.

Las Vegas policeman Bill Cassell said Tuesday that the actor was cited Friday for carrying an unloaded concealed weapon at the Las Vegas airport.

Lewis' manager, Claudia Marghilano, says the handgun is a hollowed-out prop gun that Lewis sometimes twirls during his show. She tells The Associated Press that the gun couldn't fire.

Marghilano says Lewis didn't know the gun was in the bag along with other props.

Cassell says if the gun were merely a prop "it wouldn't be a weapon and we couldn't cite him for carrying a weapon."

In Big Rock Blog news.....AC/DC BABY!

A-C/D-C will start an 18-month world tour in October. The news came yesterday during a touring panel at the International Association of Assembly Managers conference and trade show in Anaheim, California. The tour will be in support of their new album, due in October and reportedly titled Black Ice. The album and tour will be the band's first since Stiff Upper Lip was released in 2000. A-C/D-C will be in London next month to film a video for the first single -- either titled "Runaway Train" or "Rock and Roll Train."

Don't forget I would love to see you at my "Show Me Your Tat's" gig this Saturday night......get the scoop below and bring your friends....yes even if they don't have ink....haha!

METALLICA: Official 'Death Magnetic' Track Listing Revealed - July 23, 2008
METALLICA has revealed the official track listing (in the final running order) for its new album, "Death Magnetic". It is as follows:

01. That Was Just Your Life
02. The End Of The Line
03. Broken, Beat & Scarred
04. The Day That Never Comes
05. All Nightmare Long
06. Cyanide
07. The Unforgiven III
08. The Judas Kiss
09. Suicide & Redemption
10. My Apocalypse

METALLICA has revealed the cover artwork (see below) for the band's upcoming ninth studio album, "Death Magnetic", at its official web site. The black and white etching features what appears to be an open grave, with lines emanating out from it and the band's logo and album title underneath. In an interview conducted in Norway on Wednesday (July 16) by VG TV, frontman James Hetfield explained the meaning of the record's title, saying, "It started out as kind of a tribute to people that have fallen in our business, like (ALICE IN CHAINS frontman) Layne Staley and a lot of the people that have died, basically — rock and roll martyrs of sorts. And then it kind of grew from there. Thinking about death...just like a magnet, some people are drawn towards it, (and) other people are afraid of it and push away."

Hetfield added, "The concept that we're all gonna die sometimes is over-talked about and then a lot of times never talked about — no one wants to bring it up; it's the big white elephant in the living room. But we all have to deal with it at some point."

"Death Magnetic" is due out in September, although an exact date has yet to be announced.

METALLICA recently announced that every song on the album will be available to download for Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock on the same day the CD arrives in stores.

The band is offering the record for sale in numerous configurations, ranging from a digital-only release to a deluxe "coffin box" that will come with a bonus CD, a DVD, a T-shirt, guitar picks and other goodies.

METALLICA is currently on tour in Europe and is expected to begin a North American jaunt in October.

Tomorrow I'll have an interview with Bullet For My Valentine for you....they rock Showbox SODO Tuesday.  Hopefully Rob Halford will be able to make it in with The Mens Room cause I've got somthin' cool to show him....but it's a secret for now.

And lastly I leave you with a story about the latest Rock fued going on....this time between Def Leppard and Poison.....enjoy!

Def Leppard Takes On Poison

A new feud has erupted between Def Leppard frontman Joe Elliott and Poison bandmates Bret Michaels and Rikki Rockett over remarks made about the trio's rock credentials.

Elliott sparked the war of words last month at a Swedish rock festival when he questioned the quality of Poison's work.

The Brit told the media that bands like Poison and Motley Crue have "no substance in their music", and relied more on their image than their sound.

Rockett has now fired back, with a subtle dig at Elliott in an Internet posting when he wrote: "I'd be hurt if this were coming from John Lennon."

And Michaels responds, "We have not sold out... for 20 years every arena because we care about just our appearance. The music comes first.

"(They) shouldn't be knocking anyone about their music since they just did a show called Dancing With The Stars in the U.S. and they got crucified because they f**king lip-synched the entire show.

"Before they bust anyone's balls, I've never lip-synched a f**king thing in my life - ever!"

In a new posting on Def Leppard's official website, Elliott responds, "Whoah boys, slow down!!! Well, Bret has a point, we DID lip-synch on 'Dancing With The Stars'... absolutely... a show they'd love to be on, no doubt!

"I had a severe respiratory infection, as highlighted by my croaking through the (absolutely 100% live!) Ellen show performance the day before!"

Metallica news!!!!

Metallica have confirmed plans to release their new album to Guitar Hero Three. The same day Death Magnetic hits stores in September, it will be available for download on the popular video game. A message on the band's website reads, "It's a first in both music and gaming. We are so psyched that we'll be the first out of the gate with this simultaneous release. Who knows -- maybe a few years from now this will be the norm when your favorite band's new record comes out." There is still no confirmed release date for the album. --Doug Leibowitz

Congrats to Andrew from Lake Stevens...duder scooped up 3rd row Judas Priest tickets tonight!  (yes 2nd row tomorrow!)

So you know how we heard last  week that David Lee Roth nearly died from a nut reaction.....here's the full story!

Police in Brantford, Canada have identified the man who impersonated David Lee Roth and are looking for him. Larry Plummer of the Brantford Police Department says, "He's done this in other provinces and other states. He's an old hand at it." The imposter is facing obstruction of justice charges after Plummer says he "scammed a lot of people" and gave police a false name. An article in the Toronto Star identifies the man as David Kuntz, of Cambridge -- a town about 60 miles southwest of Toronto. The Roth-a-like was pulled over for speeding in late May and told cops he was driving himself to a hospital after having an allergic reaction to cashews, while the real Roth was on stage with Van Halen in New York. --Sal Cirrincione

And lastly.....great gift idea for you dudes.....a Bacon Wallet!  Well it looks like real uncooked bacon...and it's only $10 you can get one at www.mcphee.com

Ok I'm off to meet friends have a killer night!

Props to Kelly from Kent he scooped up 4th row tix to Judas Priest next Tuesday at WaMuu...(I'll have 3rd row Wed.)

Just locked down Duff Mc Kagen andd Loaded for Loud And Local 8/3 which should be awsome.  Speaking of Duff, he will be in for a couple of hours on BJ Thursday morning.

I was (sorry gunna sound like a girl here) bummed to hear bout Jimmy Kimmel and Sarah Silverman splitting up, I just love a sarcastic pair of funny f*%#ers.  Life goes on and as some say.....Comedians are some of the most unhappy people out there.  Speaking of funny....not so much...hit my funny bone while on the air tonight and the son of a gun is still ouchy here hours later.....kiss make it feel better?

7/14
Ok Weekend goodbye, hello new work week....the best part of a Monday is to hear about everyones weekend right?  Here goes....

Friday night hit up King Cobra for the Murdock/Neon Nights/Emeralds/Valkyries show.  That was fun....and packed.  Ran into many a friends including a dearheart who was finally about to turn 21.  I managed to do the social rounds, rock a bit and get home by 12:30 which is pretty good for me.  Saturday came into work  to well get some stuff done then it was off to run errands and then get a lovely walk in by the water.  A Rockaholic in a big work truck suprised the piss outta me.....startled would be a better answer....and yes duder I will remember you next time you call in haha!

Saturday night was off to a private birthday party that included belly dancers...(even one who did a dance with two arabian swords to Ted Nugent's "Stranglehold"...sounds crazy but it was rad and pretty hot.)  Superfekta played as well.  Had a chance to run down to Slim's Last Chance to say hi' to some friends and check out the Dice magazine party....(European Motorcycle/Gearhead rag)....talked to some friends going through some hard times.  Proving time and time again that we all have our knarly sh*t to go through from time to time.  Trying to measure up, do good enough, make everyone happy and do the right thing......can leave anybody drained, hell myself included!

So all this week I've got tickets for you to see Judas Priest at WaMuu next Tues....did I mention tickets within the first 5 rows...yea baby!

New Taproot in the Cockfight as well.  Do you remember the story about Fred Durst bullying them?  Go to blabbermouth.net google the band and read for yourself.  Moral of the story what comes around goes around, you get what you give....that and Durst is a bully!!

Just paid off $600 worth of parking tickets...ouch.  Do yourself a favor and check out STP's (Steve The Producer) video blog with Taylor Hawkins of the Foo Fighters, it's funny, touching and if you've got a case of the Monday's it will put a smile on your face.

And lastly thank you to Brian and Tryg from Fall From Grace for kickin it last night with Loud And Local.  Their great and the new CD sounds smokin....infact make a note to attend their CD release show Aug 2nd at El Corazon.  More info can be found at  the Loud And Local section of kisw.com

Ugg hangover city.  So last night after the crazyness of Corey from Slipknot, The Airbourne Dudes and Five Finger Death Punch I hit up King Cobra on Capitol Hill with our fav DIC in Charge Ryan Castle and some fine peeps with the Meyham tour.  I walk in and there was a Karoke night going on....I look up and there was the drummer from Dragonforce wasted doing Iron Maiden karoke...that was funny!  Ended up leaving before I could get coaxed into karoke..(thank god...I do enough to embarass myself haha.)  But needless to say I'm paying the price, but the good news is that I got my hands on the new Buckcherry song "Too Drunk" and gave it to Ricker to premiere.  Great summer song about derelict activies.

Trouble is an American doom metal band noted for their influence on the just-emerging subgenre. The band is also known for the spiritual nature of their lyrics; their first record label, Metal Blade Records, marketed the band as "White Metal" (in contrast to the rising black metal movement).

Trouble's music is traditional doom metal although their later works showcase a more stoner metal oriented style. Trouble was Influenced by the early 1970s heavy rock bands such as Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin, Budgie, and Black Sabbath,[2] Trouble typically incorporated elements of psychedelic rock to their style. Their music was some of the slowest metal being written at a time when NWOBHM and then thrash metal bands were playing faster and faster[1]; Trouble songs generally move about as fast as a slower Black Sabbath song, like "Iron Man," "Lord of this World" and "Into the Void." While most slow songs by Iron Maiden or Saxon tend to border on ballads, all of tracks on The Skull are as heavy as they are slow, with the distinctive fuzzy distortion and melodic, integral (rather than superfluous or ostentatious) guitar solos. The band could best be described as combining the riffs and tempos of Black Sabbath with the twin guitar attack of Iron Maiden and Judas Priest.

Eric Wagner's lyrics deal with different themes but the early Trouble albums are known for their biblical references since such themes were relatively uncommon in the 1980s mainstream metal music. Some songs contain Bible quotes[1] and they are typically expressed in an oppressive way, such as on "Psalm 9" from the 1984 album, hence the metal historian Ian Christe describing Trouble's music as "majestic doom preaching"[6]. Some songs deal with social issues such as "Bastards Will Pay" on the debut album, criticising politicians as hypocritical ("You tell us not to steal/ You tell us not to kill/ Then you tell us to fight for your country/ That's tell us to die"). Sometimes Wagner's lyrics include a tinge of the hippie movement's melancholy and ideologies, for example the term "peace and love" in the aforementioned song. Trouble's lyrics from Manic Frustration to forth have dealt with psychedelia, drugs, and hallucinations.[2] Examples of these themes include the songs "Hello Strawberry Skies" and "Mr. White".

Separating them from other heavy metal acts in 1980s, Trouble's members dressed in ripped jeans, tight t-shirts, and wore round sunglasses and had fringes, outfits characteristical for the hippie movement.[7] The band's live performances aren't typically very visual; Their concerts seldom contain theatrical effects such as flash bulbs or pyrotechnics, and there's minimal movement on stage.[8]

Ok time to scram.....have a great night and tune in tomorrow for Corey from Slipknot, Airbourne and Five Finger Death Punch all live with yours truly!!
